    ITS FIXED!

Not really certain how but I took the actuator off and had a play with the valve and it did appear to make a difference through the small rotation. Then managed to somehow release the button/lever on the actuator and this moved it so I left it in a new position, then whacked the valve loads with some pliers and hey go, rads go off and thermostat seems to be working as it was!

So moral of the story is bigger hammer!

What you didn’t drain your system!

How am i going to explain to the wife we have a water feature in the lounge for nothing!

    Googles drain central heating system!

    Moral question for you!

Hopefully the house will be sold in less than a week. We were meant to complete this Friday but a small issue of finding out on Friday just gone that the place were buying was underpinned 20 yrs back put a dampener on that.

Anyway, underpinning or such can wait for another how to thread.

The question is, am i an ass hole for just putting it back together, wetting the CH to come on for no more than an hour and just pretending i know nothing? Its forecast mild this week and im praying we complete by next Monday

    Time for a rolly!

So what do you want me to hit, disassemble next!

im not defeated yet, plumber can wait for the minute

And draining the system, is this to replace the actual valve i presume? So i take it were thinking this is the cream crackered part, not the actuator as it wont move more than a useless amount!

    Actuator removed!

The metal valve that teh actuator operates only turns about 1/12th of a turn either way, is this normal? I would have thought a quarter turn would have been required at least to turn off heating?

    ok danger fans!

    I have one of these

The lever part is plastic and it doesnt appear to want to move in any direction, i have even tried sideways movement as teh one above suggests you have to slide it over then accross.

Does this suggest we have a knackered actuator valve that wont close so letting all the hot water through to the rads?

If so, are they easy to replace, im presuming its just a bolt on off thing and rewire it in?

Might have to admit defeat, the pump is working, cover has been off, turned with screwdriver and put a little fairy liquid in but its turning fine. The switch i now realise is the speeds and this works.

Currently have the thermostat on lowest setting and still rads on full tilt. I suspect its a capacitor or similar somewhere

    pump is one of these

Will hitting it with a hammer help?

Any idea what the 3 settings on the side do?

    Trail Rat – Identical

Mrmonkfinger, unfortunately the heating will not run without the HW on, it has the CH on by default. You can only have the HW on seperately.

I can turn the thermostat down to min for the CH, will that have the same effect?

Stat was wired exactly the same as the one i removed so not that.

This valve, where are we talking then, by the hot water tank?

Would have had a spare to rest that way too!

Parts fail, cheap parts fail more, a lesson you won’t forget! I did feel sorry for Linda at one stage but I think she needs to take a deep breath and just think about things for a min

Whenever I re build a bike I takes longer than 2 hours to clean everything properly! A shop can charge what they like if someone is willing to pay it. Personally I wouldn’t pay that or infact pay a shop as I’ve invested years in learning and a lot in tools, as do home car mechanics, plumbers, electricians era

If he wants to flame someone how about we start with solicitors and estate agents!

My old advantages in 2.4 and 2.25 flavour have rubber on the sidewalls however 2.1 don’t. Now have they changed the amount of rubber used recently or are the bigger ones constructed differently. Agree that some are like paper

We got married in the Saddleworth Hotel, the main selling point being that they specialized in weddings and you had sole use of the venue. It was perfect in every way and the owner is fastidious over the smallest detail.

    We paid £1000 Hire
Then i think about £86 per day guest (however that included a 5 course 3 AA rosette restaurant meal, a rolls royce silver phantom drop top wedding car, DJ, flowers, reception drinks etc)
and then £14 per evening guest. We had about 35 day and 35 extra for the evening which worked well as you got chance to actually socialise with those you invited as oppose to some weddings which are so huge you get to see the B&G for maybe 30 seconds.

That was about £5K all in, plus £750 for hand made dress, £150 suit hire for gents and we made the invites and had a friend as photographer who was about £600 for the day including electronic copies of hundreds and hundreds of pictures.

Just over £2K on the honeymoon (saved over £1500 by booking the cheapest room then bunged the woman on the front desk $100 dollars to upgrade us which she willingly did)

I would have happily had a BBQ in the garden but its all about the wife at the end of the day and its her day to feel special.

Most importantly save and pay for it so you can start married life debt free, plus pay off debts other than mortgage if you have one first. If you havent got it dont spend it as the stress at the start of married life wont be worth it

Are they the vans with the light above the handle? If you have one of those all you need to do is smash it and you can lift the lock lever and you are in, terrible design and thieves know it. Either use a plate or internal hasp and saple

Happened to me, I have a thread on it, but slightly different in that they staged an accident that didnt happen! I told the insurers to expect a claim to be put in from me with the offending vehicle being their MD’s! Got dropped that day strangely!

Accord had good deals on 5 year fixed (Yorkshire bank) an I fixed at 3.54 as it was fee free basically with cash back so was better than the lower rate with fees valuations etc.

With the gov saying interest rates will be linked to employment it gives the Tories the green light to raise them as they are dying to do so bearing in mind in 3 years or two, if this hasn’t happened it will be very close to happening and as such lenders will be hiking rates in anticipation.

I think its a safe gamble for 5 and 10 at that rate I’d say prob worth while

Do you have any inside info on the labour practices of their suppliers though?
I’d really like to see a law requiring certification of working standards for goods to be sold within the EU. Well, it’d be good to see that worldwide, but ut’s the sort of legislation Europe could realistically achieve.
In the meantime it irks me a bit that most people only question the labour practices of cheap retailers.

You need to look at how the manufacture and supply distribution chain work, each person in the chain doubles the price, take them out and it cuts the cost massively and gives the retailer a greater margin, simples!

Tesco don’t make Tesco beans neither incase you were wondering
