two nail brushes, fairy liquid (not the cheap stuff)from next to the sink, coat chain in said fairy, hold nail brushes together (cut the middle bristles down) and spin pedals backwards, works a treat and has done since back in the day when none of this new fangled muck off came about.

Oh and another tip, all mucoff is, is traffic film remover, diluted with jazzy colourant added and clever marketing.

Have people not realised that shimano chains last loads longer than SRAM ones, thus having to buy less?

There is an old mill near tesco/morrisons in Failsworth, Manchester that does it, not sure of the price but if you are ever about its worth popping in, floors of old antique furniture and small nic nack shops in the basement including an elvis impersonator/shop

Its totally down o driving style, my golf goes fast or cheap, it either does 45mpg round town driving normally, 55 on a run doing 75mph or 70mpg if you slipstream lorries with cruise on in 6th gear.

Plus new engines are as tight as a ………… ill stop now!

Well that was great, utterly pooped by the end and as i hadnt done it before my tip to myself was next time dont run an old 8spd groupset with a 35-28 as your granny gear!

Otherwise the descents were ace, i was overtaken by loads on the climbs but managed to strive off anyone overtaking me on the downhills which pleased me. Hope all those that grabbed too much front brake on the descents and crashed are ok, there were quite a few that i alone saw.

And why is it that you ride hell for leather downhill all day, but only come off once and its doing one mph in teh biggest pile of wet mud on the course (the very of of the muddy descent, sideways into teh huge puddle!)

Props to the organisers too, great day!

its the same argument as fuel, every time crude prices go down, pump prices go up.

    Where does the difference go???

I have a friend who is cracking a GPS unit and installing Tom Tom software and Memory Map software on it so you can use it for car and bike. It comes with a bar mount too, think he sells them for about £130. Let me know if you are interested and i can put you in touch

Kirroughtree is worth a look, it just feels like you are on endless singletrack teh whole way round, has a different feel to it than other trail centres.

The one with the Slab, (possibly Mabie) in my opinion isnt worth doing, all the tracks get your hopes up then dash them again as it spits you out immediately on singletrack, or they satrt going up hill.

Found the answer surprisingly easy after i wrote this. I havent got a kit as it was off a friend. So the park patches work ok then, ill give that a shot as i need it for the weekend

M&S paid out a considerable sum when i lost a bike, no quibble, send a picture of me and the bike, get two quotes for a replacement and as it was a specialist bike they just wrote me a big fat cheque.

Its not the cheapest but when you addon bikes et al it really is a lot better

If its the MBR route im thinking of it takes you down the woodhead pass and all teh way along teh old railway line which is quite dull.

To throw a spanner in the works or just mention another option, why not try Marple to Sheffield or vice versa. Its a goo days ride and you get the train back. I last did it in sept and you need a full day however there are plenty of cake stop options along the way.

I have attached a map if you are interested, i think its about 45 miles, maybe a bit more.

Also, big tip/reminder, the shop in Sheff Station sells chilled beer!

I think that is the only size they still do but only in an lx one, if you are after an XT one then they are a bit like hens teeth

I am using one but check what you are buying first as they come with different bearings in, the cheapest being standard bearings, the £30ish pounds plus ones have SKF bearings in and i think there may be another above that.

For the price though they are great.

Shimano Deore HT2 BB’s are only £20 though at mtb-direct, not much more for XT either

You will be needing one of these

    Bike Fax Book

Alternately get a lift pass and a trail map and explore. If you are after true hidden singletrack id say get a guide as most of teh stuff there is wel trodden DH orientated stuff, if you want more english style XC singletrack and downhill tracks you are best heading out of les gets /morzine, maybes go over to chamonix for a day or down to the three valleys. Either way you dont go to france to ride up hill all day, thats what the UK is for so just man up and have fun!
