    They dont know!

Decided on a hope HS136 crown reducer thing which converts the forks to 1.5″ and a std integrated headset.

Will see how 2 shims go, if not just use a std seatpost

And you cant use e type mechs or chain devices with press fit BB’s!

    What a ball ache

I have quite a lot of 1.9 and 2.1 Maxxis which you can buy off me, they are just too thin for peaks stuff.

the 1.9″ ones are great for something the C2C if you run them at 60psi and just want a little grip off road and something still ok on the road, otherwise id not bother.

But then it depends where you are riding

Id say keep the comments coming, any producer looking for feedback will find it here first as STW always comes up top on google as its the font of all knowledge as we all know.

I t has potential but they need to learn fast. If you are into cycling you will only watch it if there is something on worth watching and learning from, if you are not or are just getting in to it then your only going to watch it if you have a passing interest and want to be educated, its not like anyones going to watch it for a passing celeb of yesteryear. How often do we get to see Gary Fisher or Eddy Mercx on TV!!! Give them the glory instead and let us sit and listen to what they have to say.

They do need to extend it, its a cheap programme on a cheap channel so i cant see that being a problem. 1 hour split into 3 or 4 segments just like top gear does. They have the timing model for the segments split perfectly so dont try reinvent the wheel and all that!

There is so much content available as its not been done before they would be idiots to screw it up.

Brian Rourkes Bar/pool room would be a better setting though IMO!

Get a Rose as they are better looking than a Canyon! Are you on something? This is what you linked to, looks like a college project!

And as for the Canyons, dont be seduced by the XTR chainset, its there to distract you from the fact the frame is utterly uninspiring.

For £2500 you have a chance to buy something that will last you a long time and provide a lot of smiles.

First decide what travel you want, if you ride the peaks then 140/150mm will bring a lot of smiles, if you ride with Rugby MTB club it will bring tears to your eyes.

DO you like maintenance? Do you ride in the peaks? THEN a single pivot is worth having, otherwise dont worry about it!

Have a look in sales or phone dealers who stock what you are after over the next couple of months as the 2013 stock arrives. They will all take at least 30% off with some haggling which is best part of £1000 saving, or look at it another way, your now able to look at £3500-£4000 bikes! They will all have XTR level gear AND decent frames unlike the Canyon.

Lastly, go ride some bikes, try different suspension out and see what you want, you will have more fun on something you are happy with than something you thought was good on a website as it had the all aluring XTR chainset

p.s. I ride a prophet which is a wise mans Five, because it works and i cant find a reason to change it, id prob have a carbon blur in dreamland but kids have put pay to that

Its clearly a commercial decision justified by perception of fear.

Exactly the same as at airports. I bet they charge WH Smiths a lot more rent now water sales are up 1000%.

If you were a terrorist and wanted to put a liquid bomb on a plane you would just get on one from any less developed country than our own where they dont give two hoots what you carry on.

I got stopped in Baku a month back where they made me open my bag as i had a 1l bottle of water in it just before i boarded the plane. They said “whats that”?, i said “water”, they reply “ok”. They didnt even question the other one i had in my hand.

Its a all a big commercial con.

You dont need to tell me about comfort, for the past few years we have had 10 or 11 in an LDV with upto 14 bikes, camping gear, kit and cloths each, now thats cramped but bloody good fun.

I was just more concerned about the weight tbh

Economy doesnt really matter with 4 in, cheap split 4 ways anyhow

One thing that we did on the way home last year was to come up through Switzerland and stop off at Lac Blanc in the Alsace. if you get your timings right you can fit in a days riding there (look up some vids – great place if you like UK style DH) and it also means that you miss out pretty much all of the french Tolls and can drive down to Chatel after riding.

You may save more buying the vignette that you would pay in tolls.

Have a look on the Via Michelin site and that will plot your route and give you real time fuel and toll costs

Again today, been heavy on Saddleworth tops.

Looks like it will again on Friday in this case.

How bad has it actually been there, looked like a lot of water running down the roads, much damage?

Hora I have some Mavic X3.1 tubeless rims for sale (they are 819’s before they changed the labeling) exactly the same as they were up to about 2010, have a look in my post on the FS section. They are all new and unbuilt.

Best tubeless rims out there, i have had one on the rear for 8 years and still good as gold!

    good point made there TandemJeremy!

There are a lot of novice riders out in the PDS and its not a forgiving place to ride if you aint well suited to a bit of rough stuff. The only down side with the ever growing influx of people going to the PDS with little experience over and above flat forests in the south of the UK is the bad press it gets us and the rising cost of insurance (however thanks to TJ this shouldnt make much difference.

Granted everyone has to start somewhere, but maybe if you aint confident riding fast hard descents in the peaks or lakes then you should really think twice about actually going to the pds. After all its not a nice place to ride if you are inexperienced. As an experienced rider whos done the alps loads it still beats me up riding in teh PDS and ill be honest, i dont like it as everything is either featureless due to the traffic it gets so you ride faster than you should as there is nothing to slow you = crash, or the tracks are blown out to buggery which means you cant hold on to the bar any more = crash.

Even people saying they werent riding out of their comfort zone, the front wheel just washed out for example. I know its harsh but you prob were riding something that was steeper, much looser or greasier, faster and with poor tyres, knowledge of correct braking or not braking, and like most things in the PDS, poorly built so it can kick you in the air at some awful angle for example.

I did some riding with Rugby MTB club and im sure the riding they do is somewhat similar to swindon (in that its not the peaks) and id worry about most of the chaps (sorry if i offend anyone) riding in the peaks, let alone the alps. They can do straight lines fast but throw some rocks into the mix and 90% didnt know what had hit them. Its only natural but they would be out of their comfort zone.

At the end of the day accidents do happen and you cant look at them on an individual basis and make assumptions, but when you have a town of broken people it speaks volumes

I couldnt believe how many there are in Rochdale!

Seems that they just ship kids from the south there to get them out of there hair, ten times more there than in London i think it said. Out of sight, out of mind, like the rich palming off their disabled kids, but thats for another day

Mondeo is probably the sensible option, however if like me you just cant stand ford and teh cheapness of them id go for an Accord.

I did and while i have had a couple of problems i think i have been unlucky but they have cost next to nothing to fix.

The car was £6500 with 103K on it on an 07, 2.2diesel and has ever conceivable extra, leather, sat nav, posh sound system, tow bar etc, penta alloys, etc.

The Manifold cracked first putting fumes in the cab but Honda have extended the warranty to 7yrs/125K so that was done free by Honda.

And in the last couple of weeks the rear callipers ceased and needed replacing, recon ones cost £65 each and did the pads and discs too which were £28 for discs (pair) and £15ish for pads. Im replacing the brake lines too as they had corroded.

Sounds bad but thats basically the two known problems sorted, total cost of a full service, parts and labour around £300 (luckily know a great guy in Mossley).

On a plus, its massive, nice to drive, more refined than a mondeo/vecra, loads cheaper than a bmw/audi, pretty efficient if you stay under 70 (over 60mpg on a run)

My second choice was a passat, now these have more known problems than is healthy so glad i avoided it!

Id strongly advise against buying a hydraulic one secondhand.

The amount of reverbs that have died on friends bikes is rediculous.

I have a 27.2 gravity dropper and its ok, def worth having but not a hydraulic one.

When are Cannondale going to release one with the same square internal as the lefty but with new round bushings and a round shaft, c’mon guys!!!

We must have done 30plus resorts (including Crans Montana last year) and not once have we paid to camp anywhere. Just find a lift station that isnt being used and camp under it. No one minds so long as you pack up in the morning and leave it as you found it.

In crans we camped a bit further up than the main lift, basically drive through town climb a bit then hang a right down a smaller track to the lift station.

Take a pop up tent so you dont need grass and you are sorted.

The only place we have ever had problems was Les Gets when we rolled into town at midnight leathered, fell into boomerang to heckle then spun some moves in Igloo before collapsing in a pile on the car park by the lake. The poilce made it clear we werent to stay which wasnt a problem as the riding is easily the worst there compared to any of the other 30+ resorts we have sampled.

Generally speaking the smaller the resort the better the riding, the camping options are better and the further south you go the better the weather (try Vars, Pra Loup, Pila, etc)

We are never inconspicuous either, 10 of us in an old LDV plus followers in cars!
