Looking at some of those photos it is not as bad as I thought it would be. Definitely a year for mud tyres though.

At least that one has a disc brake which may stand a chance of stopping it. There are lots of that type of bike here in Bogotá. That one looks a lot safer than what I see here 😯

Could it be something to do with recording frequency. you are recording every second he is not or the other way around.

On my 705 I know this is a setting you can change to save space when recording. I don’t have a 500 but it may have a similar setting.

I’ve not done the ride but there seems to be a lot of information here bikepacking.net
    also agree with this

Read “dividing the great” by John Metcalfe, thoroughly good read, especially if you watch “ride the divide” first to set the scene…

Take a spare tube for the trailer as well as for the bike

    plus 1

My tip from experience would be to take a spare innertube for the wheel/make sure you have a repair kit. I didn’t have a tube for the trailer or a working repair kit (my own fault), used that infrequently the glue had dried out. When I punctured 20miles from the end of my ride it was a long way back pulling the trailer with a flat tyre.

I was surprised how much easier it was to ride with compared to panniers.
I did a tour of the Cairngorms, route was mainly double and singletrack.

Hope you have a nice trip.

A fantastic effort, I believe today is his birthday also double celebrations.
He has been quick from the start, but an unofficial time under 92 days is incredible.

We did them ourselves but bought a kit that contained paper, card and envelopes etc. It was fun to do and we got exactly what we wanted. As Spooky_b329 says make a prototype!

    Hi MTG,
Really like the bike, did you just get lucky with the stay length or do you use some sort of tensioner that I can’t see to keep the belt from slipping/take out the slack?
The reason I am asking is I want to convert my bike to belt drive but doesn’t have sliding dropouts and I thought that this was a pre-requisite to maintain tension.

@MTG just out of interest why don’t you need to use a tensioner? Did you just find the magic ratio, or are you running an EBB? Sorry if you have answered this in other posts.

If it is just route tracking and then viewing on the internet. Then Garmin forerunner 110 probably fits your needs. If you want anything else like pacing, following a route then it will be no good.

This is a track of a walk I did with my watch.

I would consider this schedule from Runners World.
    Getting started 30 min running

Week 1 Run one min, walk 90 seconds. Repeat eight times. Do three times a week.
Week 2 Run two mins, walk one min. Repeat seven times. Do three times a week.
Week 3 Run three mins walk one mins. Repeat six times. Do three times a week.
Week 4 Run five mins, walk two mins. Repeat four times. Do three times a week.
Week 5 Run eight mins, walk two mins. Repeat three times. Do three times a week.
Week 6 Run 12 mins, walk one min. Repeat three times. Do three times a week.
Week 7 Run 15 mins, walk one min, Run fifteen mins. Do three times a week
Week 8 Run 30 mins continuously.

I did a 20min 50seconds last week but I’ve not been training for a month as I’ve been Ill. I also ran this race at 300m, I currently live in Bogota which is at 3500m so all my training is at altitude. Finally I only way 62kg so probably some weight advantage in there also.

Good time though Renton, keep working at it and the time will come down.

Thanks for the list tracker1972. Proper adventure as you say, also can’t believe how long some of them at riding for each day, then they go and do it the next day. Fascinating to watch it all unfold.. Looking forward seeing if the record gets broken.

I would definitely be looking second hand, as arcane says above. For that distance you could even go single speed to keep things simple. Fast is just how quickly you turn those legs right? 😆
I would also be looking for something with full mudguards/ability to fit them, to keep you dry when it does decide to rain. Even if you are only planning on commuting in the dry 🙂

or at least have a route they’ve pre-submitted so you can see miles done/miles left to cover…

Think they must have been listening to you as some of the riders now have there planned routes up, though not miles covered/to go.
