Number 411 on page 5 is me! Sunday morning lap. Not been on SS since SSUK and it felt hard.

My eVent jacket is fine but someone else had to send his back – got a replacement OK.

One trader told me he was going to stop stocking them, he has had too many returns, doesn't want the hassle.

When Delgado won in '88 he tested positive (for a masking agent for steroids) that was not illegal until a week after the tour ended. He kept the race of course.

Think Lance used EPO, certainly banned drugs, as part of his receovery from cancer – used for their proper purpose. I am no medic and no idea how long traces or effects would remain in the body. STill want to believe in him. And sure as I can be that Wiggo is clean.

Have a couple of pairs of Endura coolmax ones but never really liked them, get very sweaty.

Much prefer the Craft ones at £20+ from these goodfella's:

If Schuey comes back then he might take out Button;-)

Seriously, MS I understand was really fit when he was in F1, unlikely he is still in that condition after a couple of years out. Can't see him settling to be an alsoran.

Best Brit is tricky in a way. Can you see pasy Hoy or Pendleton on the track.

On the road though probably Cav at the moment. Best ever? hard to look past Robert Millar. 4th in TdF, KoM in TdF, Giro and Vuelta and nearly won Vuelta (2nd). Results and longevity puts RM top

    Olly,

i thought going west of Bristol might send you a bit queer but I never suspected this;-) And you can't show your underwear above low slung cut-offs you know!

The Defy would be a good buy, I rode one in Scotland just before C2C and thought it was a really nice ride. If I was replacing mine a Giant would be top of list.

For a few other tips look here:

    Hope things are going well,

I recently hired a Giant Defy for the day, a bit heftier than my normal ride but was really surprised how nicely it rode. If I was buying a road bike right now Giant would probably be top of the list.

Various models at differing price points.

Quite enjoying it. not taking t too seriously or anything.

Wasn't going to bother after 'Tosh' was killed off in previous series but the previews were encouraging.

7 hours is seriously impressive! My mate was aiming for a gold time ~ 9 hours I think, but was sick twice on the ascent of the Croix de Fer and retired. Put in a lot of work to prepare and no he is very disappointed.

As has been said it would not be pleasant in bad weather but the couple of times I did it the weather was glorius.

Did the route from STW issue 1 and that was excellent

Great weekend of riding, course was nicely challenging. As a bit of a gayer enjoyed second lap more when I could see where I was going and tried a few bits I walked on first lap.

Plan to return for a weekend in Dalby and roll on Brechfa’10

Swadey knows what he is talking about. City centre, Ashbourne Road / Kedleston Road is fine and close to Hen Hosp. There is also Oakwood which is near countryside and downhill to the city….

Use one a few times a year. I used to go when I had a problem so would be out of action for a few weeks. Now I go 3/4 times a year and they catch my back / pelvic problems before they keep me off the bike.
    Certainly works for me.

Well done TPTF, that is a real result, good luck. I am now under 11st at avearge height so by no means tubby. This has just helped give me a focus after a year of light exercise.

Rode in my Ireland jersey today, about to bring out the Connemara whiskey.

Hope its not another 61 years, now if Mayo could win the All Ireland i would be a top year.

(and what about Duffy & Robbie Savage….)

I’ve lived in Derby for about 40ish years all told. Its OK, crime nowhere near Nottingham levels from what I hear. I live about a 5 minute walk from the city centre with loads of pubs in between. City centre has had some money spent on it (we have the only statue of ‘bonnie’ Prince Charlie in the world too!

But I am also a 1 minute ride from the countryside along bike paths. Good rail service, connections better than Nottingham.

Major shopping centre opened 18 months ago. My gf lives in Camden and does like shopping in Derby. Everything here but on a small scale.

Music – most bands do tend to go to Nottingham rather than Derby though:-(
Football – Derby top in East Mids at the moment, but that does not say a lot.

We have our fair share of eejits and rough areas mind. (Not talking about you Orena45;-))

First came across it in San Francisco, helped us find our rental van down some side street.

Can’t get to worked up about privacy stuff. My name is on the electoral register and anyone can wander down and look etc if they can be bothered….

Doing quite well, but I have ut on 1lb this week which I need to report on – first reverse.

Agreed to ride 100 miles tomorrow on the balck stuff, that should get my weight down, as long as I donot stuff myself with cake afterwards.

Derby had the first factory in the world (Silk Mill), only statue of ‘Bonnie’ Prince Charlie in the world (this is as far south as he got)
Advanced Passenger Train was designed here.
Cricket is paid at The Racecourse and until recently football at the Baseball Ground.

or Newcastle. City is nice. Get a metro out to Tynemouth and take interesting walk to Whitley Bay and metro back. We got off at Palmersville last time, saw Mrs B’s birthplace and walked into the city.

Or train towards Hexham / Corrbridge. Walk between stations.

Herself went 10 years ago and really enjoyed it, plenty of pics like those above.

She had been to the US before as well, and a few times since.

When she went there I went to Moab. I was reading a newspaper which was reviewing an American trip to Iran. At some hotel there was a big sign saying “Death to America” but the Americans were made very welcome by all. I would say go.

Bakewell always looks OK to me. Live local and ride to work and then straight out the door after work and ride. Nice riding on and off road.

Few miles warm up and staedy climb up Beeley Moor from Beeley or do it from Rowsley. Used for National hill climb chamiponship in 2008.

A6 is slow and busy, or at least at weekend when I use it!
