Go to the local press with it, that will get a reaction. Or say you will if you do not get a positive response next time police are approached.

As mtbmatt says the Alpe is not that hard, it takes the top guys just over 40 minutes. I climbed up Sarenne and down to Alpe d’Huez last summer and I would expect the road is going to be improved before next year but I did hear the same rumour at La Marmotte.

One of Bertie’s wingmen is going to be Nico Roche who has signed for Saxo Tinkoff.

Doubt the staffers have time between writing an off-road mag and dealing with floods!

CTC / audax mag covers the bases for non road raceng and bling kit.

Currently reading ‘The Obree Way’ and he reckons the difference between good kit and top end kit is minimal. Proper bike set up, training, breathing and pedalling more important way to go. Of course if everybody thought like that the mags would have nothing to write about.

Keef – I’ll be there Saturday probably. Out in B’ham on Friday night for some Moroccan food instead.

I will be going, by train, on Saturday. No parking to pay! Tends to be a lot to look at and little to buy as others have said. ‘BRD’ gets you a discount as well.

Depends on whether you like looking at next years / expensive stuff without being tempted to actually buy.

UEFA have pussy-footed around this issue for years. I would like them to just go ahead and ban a team but they won’t. Absolute minimum should be the rest of the tournament played behind closed doors.
Worst penalty likely to be one game behind closed doors and/or a 5,000 euro fine.

Regarding Atlaz comments I have no insight into the cost of a women’s race team. I do recall a few years ago (I think it was Bob Stapleton at htc High Road) saying that the cost of the anti-doping procedures for the men’s team was greater than the whole budget for the women’s team.

It might cost ‘only’ £1m but how many subscriptions does Sky have to sell to cover this? At the end of the day any sponsor is looking to increase sales.

A female racer has said something similar to me regarding Nicole and her lack of popularity amongst fellow women. Never met her but I do like her winning mentality.

Stefan Wyman (and iDave I think) had about 150 people yesterday according to Twitter but they were after 500 at £100 each. Rapha were asking for £1,000 a couple of years ago towards the mens team but I do not know how popular that was.

With the Olympics this is the time to strike, you could help sponsor a team for the price of a Rapha top and still have change for a few posho coffee’s!

Be interesting to see how it goes but if it goes ahead commitment for 3 years or the Olympic cycle should be sought imo. Ladies teams have particularly suffered with sponsors dropping out after a year.

Distinctive style alright. I was on Gun Hill last week and as soon as the leaders came into site it was clearly JTL on the right.

Not a replacement for Cav though. Would be interesting to see him on the Giro with the steep climbs over there.

Dave Barter and Johnny Met above’s are both good as is Ned Boulting’s one above. All cheap as well.

Also look at Jill Homer’s 3. Ghost Trails, her Tour Divide one and this week released for ~£1.50 some of her blogs etc. Also AL Humphries books

Away from travel how about Planet of the Ape’s, different to film.

My real favourite of late is Ordinary Wolves by Seth Kantner set in Alaske of 70/80’s early 90’s. All about change on a population of Northern Alaska.

Not sure about tags really. Cycle club I am a member of used Cat 4 up to Cat 1 and elite based on number of posts. So Fun, Sport, Elite, Pro Elite or similar might work here if considered necessary.

The ‘member’ since date has probably been corrupted by the great hack so I for instance who has been a member since the Go-Far days(12 years now?) but that would not be picked up by the current systems (guessing here). How long someone has been here should not be indicative of the importance attached to there response or question though.

Had not realised TSY had been banned. Must say I am on here a bit less since I retired, too much to do I suppose.

One thing for the mods or His Grumpiness to consider is number of posts to a thread. Set an arbitrary limit, say 50 posts, and when it reaches this number the thread is auto locked (assuming this can be done) until a mod has a look at the content. If the ‘Big Hitters’ are having a go or bullying then the thread is closed. If it is a good-natured thread such as the bivvy, pictures, Olympic threads then unlock the thread and let it run. Might save a few bannings, TJ for instance who I generally agreed with – he just wouldn’t let it lie!

This can be a great place, I was after a knob for an mfi in-house cooker but did not know how to source one after mfi went bust as I did not know the manufacturer. Someone on here knew the maker and I got one. Plus what tyres for CyB.

Littleover not the best side. A bit more to North & East of city and also to South East, Ticknall / Robin Hood.

From the city it is not brilliant but Peaks or Cannock are close enough. Chatsworth / Bakewell area is OK. From where you will be even Church Stretton is almost as near as Edale!

Email me if you want more details.

Ah, didn’t know Adele was so far gone, only heard a few weeks ago she was up-the-duff. So that explains it, thanks.

Clearly getting old, Muse was the band I thought ‘what was that all about’. Glad not 3 hours of that bollix.

A few strange choices by bands, Brian May / Queen doing something new or obscure to me and even George Michael. If he had done Freedom / Wake Me Up Before You Go GO it could have been fun and everybody would have known it. But he played something else. New? B-side?

Just got R5 on and playing a few Olympic highlights with Adele as background music. Could have missed it but did not see/hear her at either opening or closing ceremony.

As a local girl and one of GB’s main music exports of last few years was a bit surprised. Anything I don’t know?

Just because some of the best riders in the world make it look easy does not mean it would be for the likes of me. Would think twice about the jump to the boulder that Sheldon is on. Painful if you get it wrong….

I heard the as well re the 113db, and a jumbo jet taking off is 110db it said. Fields of Athenry was being sung with gusto towards the end of the semi-final. Any excuse! And not a lot to sing about in Ireland in recent times.

Edric – beeb have been on about some Jamaican sprinter non-stop as well!

It is a bit Brit centered, fair enough really as this is Britain, but seeing other big performances, for me, is also important regardless of nationality. So I want to see & hear about Bolt / Rudisha / Taylor as well as Ennis / Farah and all in the velodrome.

I was in USA for parts of 2000 & 2008 Olympics and coverage outside of American athletes was nil. Prefer UK coverage.

I was at the semi-finals and Nicola looked good but I thought the Chinese girl might beat her in the final. Glad I was wrong, she fought really well. As well supported as Nicola was it was so different went Katie Taylor made an appearance.

I was really there to see Katie, unreal support for her. To answer theotherjonv the reason for so many Irish supporters is she is our ‘Jess Ennis’ – the most likely winner of a gold medal. Everybody knew when she was fighting and lets face it, womens boxing was not going to be top of most peoples lists of things to see. Tickets relatively easy to get.

Shay Given was at the semi-finals and was being pestered by fans for autographs and photo’s after the fight but he was in good humour. And the DLR was like the DART on the way back to central London.

Well said. I recall the Coe / Ovett era and races from Oslo etc, often with pacemakers. That was so fast. Osagie now 4th on UK all time list behind Coe Ovett and Elliott I think they said.

Re gottapickapenny: Australia & Greece not doing very well this time despite recent Olympics so will be interesting to see for the future in GB.

Watched loads on the tellybox as struggled to get tickets. Was at the ladies boxing earlier today though to see Katie Taylor win. What an atmosphere for that one and will be again tomorrow:

I always think anchor person is not an ‘easy’ job. Regarding Michael Johnson, as said above, the best of the lot by far. Has been for years, annoyed a few of the sprinters in the past I recall.

As to why he is on the BBC rather than NBC etc it might be due to full coverage we give. I heard the 100m final was not shown live in USA and I ws in the USA for part of the 2000 and 2008 Olympics. 2000 in particular was dire coverage, only showing American success. it would say an American had a bronze medal and not mention gold or silver! WHatever the reason, unlikely to be just cash, we are fortunate.
