Oh, and what’s all this digging in the woods about?

    I think he meant dogging

i haven’t tried rosetta stone, but i can highly recommend michel thomas. he begins by discussing the similarities between english and your chosen language, so your vocabulary expands enormously with this concept (e.g. any very ending in “ent” is spelt the same but pronounced with the emphasis as “entey”). then he introduces verbs to link the nouns/pronouns together.

each cd course has a “thick” student that you correct verbally, and a clever student that you aim to emulate. this accelerates the learning process.

it works very well for me.

Stay in Innerleithen instead of Peebles. I can’t recommend innerhaven enough. It’s fantastic, and can easily house your brood. There’s local ice-cream and a kiddie’s playground a short walk away. Great walks for non-riders. Peebles is a very short drive away.

morelikeme: are you looking to switch after reading this article about hsbc greenwashing?

i’ve been with the co-op for years and never had problems. as someone else alluded to, they’re more responsible lenders, which could cause problems for self-employed, etc, but service is good. to lost johnny’s point about limited branches, you can pay in money/cheques and withdraw at any post office.

If you want to work with kids and do outdoorsy stuff, how about an outdoor pursuits centre. They’re not all charities, but some of them run sessions funded by local boroughs for kids at inner-city comprehensive schools and it can be a life-changing experience for some of these kids. Trewern and Outward Bound spring to mind, but there must be loads more.

Is she getting the rag? Maybe she’s just temporarily insane due to raging hormonal imbalance and everything will right itself in a few days?

At least she didn’t try to murder you for putting a spoon in the fork partition of the cutlery divider.

Swinley Forest. Pished down on the drive out, but remained dry throughout the ride. Bit of mud here & there, but not nearly as bad as Epping would’ve been.

I’d love to do some bivvying, but I’m afeared. Afeared of the cold, of wild animals, of my bike getting nicked while I’m asleep, of forgetting something important, of starting a fire i can’t put out, and so much more!

My English teacher at school reckoned it was "get" and encouraged us to use a more descriptive verb instead: buy, arrive, travel, traverse, navigate, understand, acquire, open (as in "I’ll get the door"), avenge ("I’ll get you"), etc etc.

I went helibiking in Wanaka with this crew. It was OK, but a fire trail descent rather than singletrack. Once we reached the bottom, they split the group according to ability and took some of us around more challenging trails near the lake (as referenced above).

When you book group activities, you’re always going to be limited by those with lower skill levels. It was a great experience, though, with fantastic views.

Venus trail just north-east of Wanaka township is smooth, windy, bermed singletrack under the cover or pine trees, popping you out just by the side of the lake. It’s one of my favourites!

Apparently you can get a trail map at the bike shop in Wanaka.
