There are a few via ferrata spots around too. We did one at Puget Thenier and it was awesome. You can find more info on the web if you’re interested.

When travelling along the coast use the train, don’t drive. Parking and traffic is a nightmare. You can buy a Carte Isabelle which gives unlimited train travel between Monaco and Theoule-sur-Mer for 12 euros a day, although I think this is only during summer months.

For markets – Antibes is great for the ambiance and to have a nose around, but if you want to buy anything get it from Cannes. The difference is Cannes is for locals whereas Antibes caters for tourists and can be very expensive. Both have lovely little cafes all around them.

A night in the Absinthe bar is great in Antibes. There’s also a small museum which is quirky and fun.

Also while in Antibes go to the international quay and look at the boats. They are obscenely big!

St Paul de Vence is beautiful to walk around. Also, try to cycle up to Gourdon. I know some nice routes if you’re interested.

Curiousyellow – if you used transferwise you should be able to send a link. If not I’ve got one. It’s definitely cheaper than other fx companies.

    Hi ecksee

It’s worth getting in touch with your local council as some offer free, or heavily subsidised bike maintenance courses. They tend to be quite basic, but are a good place to start and often lead on to more advanced courses.

    Good luck

I got one second hand and it failed after about 2 weeks. Called Garmin, explained that I bought it from Gumtree but they replaced it with a new one in 2 days. Great service

Garmin were great. I called them and told them the unit was faulty but I bought it second hand and they agreed to replace it.

Thanks for the replies. I got it from Gumtree and it came without the warranty info or box. Is it still ok to send back? I’ll contact Garmin to let them know what’s going on.

I’ve now got the machine in front of me. It’s obvious she entered a password and promptly forgot it! It’s running W8. I can get into the set up menu pressing f8 on boot. It’s an InsydeH20 setup utility. There is a boot tab, under which is the option to reset factory defaults, but it’s not selectable. I can do a screenshot it will help.

One of my favourite radio shows is Jeremy Sole on KCRW

It’s pretty eclectic but has a good scoop of soul and funk. I particuarly liked this tune on this week’s show:
Monty Alexander – Love and Happiness It’s original an Al Green track

Well that worked a treat on the 1000. I wouldn’t like to have to find a file on the unit before each segment.

I’ve been reading about Connect IQ (http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2014/09/garmin-connect-iq-apps.html). Hopefully they’ll support Edge devices soon as it could lead to some interesting apps.

I got the Hythe ferry to work this morning and there is a segment on the peir. It’s slippery at the best of times and a road bike tyre fits between the gaps in the planks! Treacherous!

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I’ve just bought an Edge 1000. I’ve put some strava segments on there using the gniza tool. When I ride tomorrow, will they automatically pop-up on the device when I approach the segment, or do I need to have the virtual partner on?

Not much help but I used to get the same thing from certain sunglasses. It was as if they we pressing on a particularly sensitive spot above the ears and giving me a headache.

Is this possible on other models? I’m hoping to get an edge 1000 soon.

I had some problems using it too. It was because it had automatically added another, £5 off, voucher and wouldn’t let me use both.

Takisawa – see my previous post about my Samsung that packed in after 16 months. You should be covered by the sale of goods act by the retailer http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/samsung-tv-broken

Contigo Autoseal. Doesn’t leak at all. You can chuck it in your bag upside down and it’ll be fine.

    Thanks for the constructive replies.

the best thing to do is to ring the electrician up, explain the situation and ask him to bill you a reasonable amount as a ‘cancellation fee’, which you can then pass on to the retailer for payment.

    I think I’ll do that.

I haven’t lied to Currys. Read the OP.

How did John Lewis let you down?

They told us they had stock and took our money. About a week later they told us they couldn’t find any stock and cancelled the order. It took 5 days to refund our credit card so we couldn’t use it to purchase another oven elsewhere. Their customer service was terrible, but I suppose I’m just whinging eh.

I haven’t come unstuck at all. They called me and asked how I would like this to be resolved. As part of that they asked how much the cancellation fee was. I said my wife dealt with this and will get back to you. I presume they would be paying some compensation even if we didn’t have to pay the spark, that’s the impression I got on the phone. And this is what I would expect. The original question was, how much is reasonable? From the replies most of you seem to think £0.

What would a normal cancellation fee be? I think around £50 is fair for the trouble caused and if that’s about the same as an electricians cancellation fee then why not use that. Perhaps not 100% honest but I think it’s fair.

    bitasuite

So what you’re asking is, how much can i rip Curry’s off by

Nope. I’m asking what is reasonable. Some responses on here aren’t (IMHO).

Unless them not turning up has actually cost you something

It cost me a full day (the delivery slot they gave was something like 10am – 7pm. It cost me not having an oven for a week. It cost me putting off electricians and messing them about. It cost me the price of takeaways. It cost me having to ask my dad to sit in our house for a couple of hours when the new one came.

Perhaps there was no direct financial cost. If there were then I wouldn’t need to post on here would I?

    bitasuite

I think it’s reasonable to ask for some kind of compensation when they had promised to deliver and no one turned up. Maybe you disagree?

    bitasuite
    Free Member

This is the dilemma. In the end we didn’t have to pay a cancellation fee. However I lost a day, we had no oven for another week and we annoyed our electrician. How do you put a cost on that? I feel it may be easier to quantify by going with the “we got charged £x” so expect this much compo.

I’m not trying to rip anyone off but feel we’re entitled to something.

Yeah, it’s mail order. I’ll send them a honest email explaining what has happened and see if they can help. We did spend over £4k with them. I totally accept I was at fault, but the unit only has 3 legs and is very wobbly. It’s been clamped to the unit next to it, but I took off the clamp when I put the worktop on and when I removed the worktop it fell.

Will let you know the outcome.

Just an update. Good news, I have phoned Amazon and they almost immediately offered to send a courier and issue a refund. After reading up on my rights according to SOGA they had to I suppose. Credit where its due though – thanks Amazon.

Thanks so much for all of your input too. I owe you a pint!
