Great thanks. I’ll see if I can measure one at the next TT. They need to be hand tightened, hence the grip around the edge of the head, as it’s impossible to go an allen key in the gap.

Quite a bit over budget but this is a bargain: https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/road/ultimate/2017/ultimate-al-slx-9-0.html

£1429 for a very well speced bike and decent frame. No need for any future upgrades. The wheels alone go for over £450.

I’ve got the Cosine ones which are great but seem to be discontinued. Might be able to pick some up on eBay though?

how do you make porridge, milk water mix, how long for? and which oats do you use. Got an Instant Pot for christmas! Cheers

I use steel cut oats, buy them in bulk online as they’re hard to get hold of. I put in one cup of oats and 3.5 cups of water. A bit more if you’re adding dried fruit. Then 9 minutes on porridge function. I do this the night before and get it to start at about 5.30 so by 6am they’re ready. You can add a bit of milk or yogurt after to make it creamier but I don’t generally bother.

This[/url] is a good site for recipes

It has a slow cooker option but I don’t use that function very often. In fact it’s a “7-in-1 Multi-Functional Cooker,Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Saute/Browning, Yoghurt Maker, Steamer and Warmer” according to the blurb.

It does rice in 1 minute. Again, you have to wait for the pressure to get it up and drop though.

You have to bear in mind that cooking times don’t include the thing coming up to pressure and the pressure dropping at the end. This usually takes about 10 mins either side, depending on the amount you’re cooking.

It’s still a lot quicker at cooking most things than other methods.

I have an electric one (Instant Pot) which I used almost every day for porridge. You can put it on the night before and it’s done in the morning when you wake up. It’s also excellent for bean/lentil dishes, risotto, stock and joints of meat. Can also cook frozen chicken breasts just by chucking them in, put it on for 19 minutes and walk away. Lovely and moist.

    Hardly use the oven now.

Thanks Hooter. The Park one you link to does both but I think I must have a Shimano specific one. Bugger.

Thanks for the replies. I’m taking the whole thing out. You’re right – it’s difficult to get in the sleeve.

What I really want to know is if I have the right tool. Will a BB86 remover work with PF86 GXP or do I need something else? I know the Park one will do both, but not sure about this Super B one I’ve bought.

    Thanks

Can anyone answer this? Not sure if I need to order a new tool or not.

    I’m quite tempted by this:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Viavito-Unisex-Equipment-Floor-Black/dp/B01D96G9W4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481486107&sr=8-2&keywords=viavito

but the small is a bit too small and the large too expensive and too big!

I’ve just finished a couple of good books:

Daemon by Daniel Suarez sounds like it might be down your street. It’s a tale of a dead millionaire programmer who wreaks havoc from the grave. Better than I’ve made it sound!

City of Thieves by David Benioff. Set in WW2 Leningrad. A bit different, quite dark although strangely comedic and very endearing.

I’ve got a Rado, excellent watch and pretty much bombproof. Don’t really wear it any more so if someone wants to make a sensible offer for it they can have it. It’s this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rado-Sintra-Chronometer-R13663162-Ceramic/dp/B001II27WC

OP; are you trying to simply recover or build extra muscle?

Just for recovery. I generally do an hour on TrainerRoad which often includes VO2 max efforts or work near threshold.

I am trying to watch my weight, but understand carbs might be a good idea. Any suggestions for something light to eat that will help?

Oh and I generally have a very good varied diet with lots of fresh fruit and veg.

Yeah I used to have a glass of milk but I don’t drink it any more. I’ll check out MyProtein, thanks.

@Pieface – it’s got two stage authentification, so any new log in would have to be verified through my mobile. It’s also security focused so they obviously invest a lot more resources in keeping it secure. It also means you only need one password so you can make it a lot more complex than an ordinary password. It then allows you to have random passwords for every website which could never be guessed.

Can anyone help me out with some questions about my new PowerPod? I’m now waiting for a speed and cadence sensor so I can start using it but in the meantime I have a couple of questions:

1 – I like to log all of my miles on Strava. If I start my Garmin recording at the beginning of a ride while the PP is calibrating (i.e. going from 0W – 100W) will this throw out my average power reading?

2 – I’d like to use it for my commute. I do this on a bike with a pannier, which will obviously be very unaero. Can the PP be set up accurately account for this? And as my commute is under 40 minutes, if I have to re-calibrate for the ride is the power data going to be meaningful if the first 7 minutes are the unit calibrating.

    Thanks in advance

I pay about £8 a year for LastPass. It’s really good and you can use it on your mobile. There’s also a chrome extension that can fill in your log in details when you go to a website you’ve saved a p/w for.

£75 on mudguards? Are you insane?

They’re often available for around half that. I have needed to remove and reinstall them a lot and they’re totally solid still. And the request was for the best mudguards, not the cheapest!

For tyres, it depends what you want to do. I’ve got some 28mm GP4000s ii for road, and 35mm Vittoria Voyager Hyper for commuting. Plus some 40mm Clement X’Plor MSO for gravel! Oh and some Schwalbe cx pro for cross races!!

I got the PDW ones. Expensive but I’m glad I did, they’re excellent and look great too. Charlie the Bikemonger had them on offer last year. I had to cut a bit out for the front derailleur but it’s not a problem.

I’ve got the Giro Rumbles (linked above) and wear them on the bike then all day walking around at work. Comfortable and look like normal trainers. Recommend.

Does anyone want a free month? I seem to have earned one. PM me if interested.

I struggled getting up this morning after doing Huffaker (VO2 intervals) last night.

DT – glad you are feeling better. The kickr is great!

I’m looking for something that will connect to my Garmin Edge and record my hr (optically) on my commute without having to wear a chest strap. It’d been nice to tell the time and do steps/sleep tracking etc like a lot of cheap devices out there do. I don’t understand how there’s nothing out there that can do this.

If you use this link: https://transferwise.com/u/ab510 you should her a free transfer. You’ll then get your own link to refer people and if you have 3 they give you £50. It’s really easy to use and they seem to offer a great service.
