Unless it’s a known problem with a 5 minute fix, it will surely be cheaper and quicker to pick up a new console from the next boot fair?

Well on the one hand it’s disgraceful and we should all be outraged.

On the other hand, a man needs a hobby.

Absolutely fantastic game. If you’ve got a reasonable gaming pc and you like portal (who doesn’t) then you should definitely check this out. It’s on special offer on steam at the moment I think

I like the look of the ‘Sage by Heston’ ones, which is actually just a rebranded Breville.

The ‘quick look’ and ‘little bit more’ buttons are something that all toasters should have!

Yes, I’m seriously asking. On non-electrical items they give back double the difference. Is using that offer trying to get something for nothing/parasitism as well?

tbh If I knew something was cheaper elsewhere I’d just buy it elsewhere as I can’t be arsed with getting Sportpursuit credit. FFS chill, i was just wondering. Jeez.

Same thing has always bugged me too.

It’s like a shop with no windows and a sign saying ‘there’s some cheap stuff in here’ but with a doorman who won’t let me in unless I give him my name and address.

    Nah, you’re alright.

I’ve been looking at getting one but couldn’t justify the cost, can someone point me in the direction of some information on building my own rather than a ready made?

What is it that you want to do? Aerial photography? Aerobatics? FPV racing?

I have a Dakine Nomad that I’ve been using since about 2006 which I think is very similar to the Drafter.

With a Source bladder inside I’ve never felt the need to try anything else.

I don’t dare update my 1st gen 4G… It works perfectly as it is and I don’t really need some flashy new icons, so my view is if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

Another vote for daysoft here… and again compared the Specsavers ones I had a stock of until recently, they are loads better.

The specsavers ones often used to be really quite hard to get out of my eyes at the end of the day, pressing and swiping your finger on your cornea a dozen times to try and grip the glued on lens and slide it to the side bit by bit so you can peel it off your eyeball is not pleasant.

The daysoft ones go in easy, are super comfortable all day and whip out easy in the evening.

Well it’s a massive room full of folk playing computer games, you’re right on the money there.

Whether or not they are creepy and/or nerdy depends largely on your perspective i.e. whether you’re one of them.

It’s a safe controlled environment for young and slightly older alike to do their things. I’ve not been since i7 (2001?) but would love to go again.

Didn’t watch any of it so don’t have an opinion either way but can’t see the point in people getting worked up over the ‘greatest living rockstar’ business and strutting.

Come on people, the whole overblown ego/arrogance/confidence thing is an integral part of the persona/act. It’s just his schtick. His USP. I’m sure if you chatted to him one to one over his cornflakes he’d say ‘course it’s crap and I cringe when I have say this stuff but it keeps attention on me and brings in the cash’

I use those glass protectors too and have been applying the thin film ones for years for my girlfriend who apparently has pockets made of sandpaper.

Usually ‘bubbles’ are caused by a minute speck of dust or similar holding the film off the surface. Clean the screen with isopropanol wipe, float them on with a few drops of soapy water and squeegee out to get it 100% inclusion free and invisible.

Before anyone ‘rips’ anything out, they’ll first fill the skip with your twig-filled vases and wooden letters that sit on the mantlepiece saying ‘home’ or ‘love’ or ‘relax’. Then they’ll peel your sticky back vinyl proverbs off the wall.

Wikipedia has some stuff about interpolation of data :

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_player

    Indeed it does.

It also has some stuff about

    Red Book CD Standard

    Error Correction and Detection

    Reed-Solomon Error Correction

… the tl;dr upshot of which is that a CD needs to be pretty screwed up to defeat the error correction (that is, the exact bit for bit reconstruction of missing data) inbuilt into the CD standard and require interpolation to be used. Certainly more than a bit of dust or a few scratches.

Could you expand a bit on this please?

Not quite true with reading a CD. A dusty CD may still play without any obvious skips or jumps but it doesn’t mean all the data has been read.

I think it does; any unread data up to a certain threshold can be exactly recreated, using the same Reed-Solomon error correction redundancy principle as used when a large data Parchive is recovered if some of the .par segments are lost. A dusty disc would certainly be within this recoverable tolerance. iirc you can drill a 2mm hole in a CD and still be able to recover all the data.

My brother in law is manager of a Hi-Fi shop and while he acknowledges that there ‘probably’ isn’t any picture quality difference between using a cheap HDMI cable and an expensive one, the sound quality coming through that same cable is another matter.

In addition he sells expensive cloths for wiping dust off your CDs and insists the difference between a freshly wiped CD and a slightly dusty one is night and day.

I should say that the slot in mount on the pendle was pretty good and felt very secure, if a bit awkward to slot in sometimes.

I strongly disagree with the suggestion of greasing the ends of the bars though.

What’s worse than a big, heavy bike rack that’s awkward to handle? A big heavy bike rack with mucky greasy ends.

To me it felt like it was designed by someone who only had access to steel box section, a hacksaw and a mig welder

    BiscuitPowered

I had a pendle one for a few years and absolutely hated the bloody thing.

All quite thick gauge steel box and tube so really heavy and cumbersome. To collapse it down any smaller you had to faff about with bloody allen screws on the bottom, even to drop the upright.

    Right pain the arse.

Now I’ve got an old Thule 9302 and even though it needs a big spanner thing to tighten onto the towball, where the later ones have a convenient handle, it’s still 10 times better than that poxy pendle. Upright folds down tool free, then pluck it off the towball and straight in the boot no messing (only a clio too)

Couple of classics I’ve read recently, well worth checking out

    Tau Zero – Poul Anderson

    and

In fact I think I picked up Tau Zero as result of a recommendation in a previous thread on here.

    Omega Pirate, Metroid Prime.

    ggnnhhhgghhhh……

Came in here to say Metroid Prime myself. Only for me it was the end boss itself. As I recall it wasn’t so much the boss difficulty that did it for me, but the ridiculous frustrating platform jumping section to get back to him from the last save point. In the end I just said ‘f*** it, as far as I’m concerned, I’ve finished this’.

So not quite conforming to the OP in that I didn’t actually finish it, but still.

I have a Corsair K70 brown switch version, fitted with o-rings. Top notch quality thing, metal body and decent weight to it.

I also have a K70 blue switch version new in the box which I was bought for christmas erroneously and it was too late to send it back. I’m up for selling that one ;)
