Not sure of the full details – he would not have left it unlocked and even then would not have left it for long.

Chips makes a good point. Best bars I have used are the standard own brand cx shallow drops on my specialized tricross. .

Just wondering – does anyone make an adapter to allow fat bikes to be carried on a roof rack?

I imagine that the tyres would be way too wide to allow the to be transported on a normal roof mounted rack.

    No risks in MTB? Really?

well worth a read to put it in perspective with rational evidence rather than personal anecdote:

    CTC

Short version – benefits, even riding in traffic, outweigh the risks 20:1

Are there dangers in road riding – sure.

However it is easy to forget that the health benefits far outweigh the dangers. Less chance of cancer, diabetes, dementia, being fat, all-sorts-of-horrible-things.

The real danger lies in not exercising enough. Statistically, it is the people in the metal boxes who are in the most long term danger.

I currently run Specialized nimbus armadillo for my commute. 50% cyclepaths and 50% road.

Very puncture resistant but heavy. Really heavy.

Looking to move to the Continental Cyclocross speed or similar as I use the commute bike to take my daughter in her trailer on gentle off road trails. Nimbus cope ok, but they are not really meant for such conditions.

A couple of reviews I have read on the Continental Cyclocross speed have been glowing, so I am tempted. Tread wise, they look ideal for the sort of riding we are discussing here. Just curious about how they would stand up to punctures.

I note Genesis are speccing the Continental cyclocross speed as standard on the new Croix de Fer.

remoterob – I quite fancy these tyres for my winter commute, but I note they do not seem to have any puncture protection.

Have you found them prone to punctures?

I have a skinny arse. Like you, the spoon is ok, but just not right.

The specialized body geometry saddles are excellent.

I know it is a bit mainstream, but the Trek CrossRip or Spesh Tricross are good.

I have a tricross. Great bike. Use it more than any other.

There is a big difference between the etiquette of racing and referring to some guide written by some guy when deciding what colour arm warmers to wear.

You can get a very good springer from 250 upwards, but you might want to look into one of the excellent springer rescue organisations. If you are in Scotland, Springer Rescue Scotland is fantastic.

I have a springer and a cocker. Both are fantastic. Love biking.

I preface this with the following statement:

I do not work for on one / planet X, but I am a huge fan.

I placed several orders recently. All went fine. I placed one order yesterday lunchtime and it arrive at 10am this morning.

    Outstanding.

You prefer ‘aggressive trails’ but you are looking for ‘added comfort’ on small bumps?

    That’s just bonkers.

I give it a month and the marketing men will have you convinced a 650b is what you need.

If it was me, I’d be going for a buzzard.

I have a square taper Shimano crankset that I am looking to sell. Right crank arm included! Used, but in good condition.

It is the black version of the shimano 2300. 175mmm crank length.

Will send you the crank arm for £10 or the entire set for £15.

Out of interest, what length are your cranks and what is your height / inside leg measurement?

    birney29

Going through this myself just now.

Doing a lot of stretching which helps and have adjusted saddle height / cleat position.

This has all helped, but the biggest cause is such a simple one I don’t know why I didn’t notice it. I do the majority of my mileage on a Specialized Tricross. The standard cranks are 175mm.

By most measures, this is far too big for me. I am 5’10 with average (relative to height) length of legs. Going by the Obree method, I should be on 170mm cranks and that is just what I will be fitting this week.

I need a new bottom bracket anyway and Merlin are doing great deals on cranksets+BB so I ordered a set of Sora cranks in 170mm.

    Here’s hoping!

Will there be a new inbred build as well? I notice the stock on the inbred x5 29er is running down and I’m coming up to new bike time!

I get the impression a new inbred build may be on the way. The x5 stock seems to be getting discounted and run down on stock. Hope a new one is listed – ill be getting a new c2w bike in April.
