Used these for the Spyres, tried a couple of the other types but not sure what the difference is though, too many other variables affecting performance. They don’t squeal in the rain though!

    On One Pompino – dull
Funn titanium seatpost – weighed more than the bike it was going on
Gobi Saddle – probably me rather than the saddle..
Various Mucky Nutz fenders which to be fair I never actually finish putting on and usually just resort to any electrical tape that happen to be lying around.

We’ve got a big screen at Harveys Depot outside the train station in Lewes tomorrow. I’ll be serving Smoked Cheese and Mushroom Galettes!

Only just seen this thread again. Feel I need to point out that my ‘compromised’ comment before was very firmly tongue in cheek!?! I’m the only thing ‘compromised’ on my Jones. And Tim you’ll be pleased to hear I’ve got the original rear matching wheel now with Pauls hub and 18 tooth WI!

Is it like the difference between Disney Land and Disney World whatever that is?

You’d need a 9 speed mtb mech with 10 speed STIs. Got that set-up with road cranks.

Yeah I know, I’m confused. Tried clipless but I’ve got cartilage and cruciate damage and clipless just aggravates it. Works for me.

Ton, I’m interested in the pedals if that’s posted? Email in profile, cheers.

Yep,freeze them weekly for a pop-up bike cafe. Just put them in a tin but make sure they are completely cool and top to top (if that makes sense) so they don’t stick.

Best recipe I’ve found is a Good Housekeeping one with added pumpkin seeds, cranberry and raisins.

My Saturdays are really wild at the moment!

I know it looks funny but flawless round Stanmer on 1 x 10 and still no chain drop!

This has worked well for me, not used in a carbon frame though.

Jesus Somafunk, can’t imagine how they’ll ride but those Jones bars look lovely on your Tripster!

Took my compact off today and went back to 1 x 10, 40 tooth Surly ring and 11-36 at the back. Absolute relief and though I don’t understand why faster over the same loops. Supposing it’s because of better cadence, not losing momentum on shifting etc,? Certainly notice that I don’t tend to shift as much as I did with a front mech.

Think it’s time this thread had it’s own website!

I’m very happy with my compromised SS Diamond frame. Maybe it depends on terrain and other things but I can’t see how less tyre choice and presumably more weight would improve it?
And Tim you definitely need to ride more!

As I said ‘I’m not sure’ so good to hear real life experience.I have heard different things though including from someone who was at Enigma about titanium sticking to titanium but didn’t know if this would apply to seat posts. I’m not a massive fan of carbon but finding a carbon seat post in a titanium frame very comfy indeed on single track.

t_l_r – I got a seat post grip as recommended on here from xcracer. It works really well and weighs nothing, although I’m using an old Enigma carbon seat post now that doesn’t seem to slip that much anyway.

Got a Funn Ti seatpost from Chain Reaction but sending it back as it weighs more than the Thomson and I’m not sure about Ti in Ti anyway!

Hummerlicious – copy that, will avoid that same stretch tomorrow! Nice pic.
Went into Charlie BM shop briefly on my way out of Swanage yesterday. Excellent set-up and good vibes.

Probably not much help but tried Midges and Cow Bells, and Cow Bells are much better for me on my Swift.

Gotama, I originally built my Tripster with 1 x 10, 40 front and 11-36 back cause that’s what I had on another bike. It was absolutely faultless. Decided that I’d like a bit more speed on the road and put on a compact double with a 11-32 at the back. Yes a I’ve gained a bit more at each end but I can’t stand front mechs! I’m sure it’s my incompetence but it always seems to need some adjustment or other. Probably going back to 1 x 10. With a surly chain ring I’ve never dropped a chain on the South Downs.

I’ve been running 10 speed with 11-36 cassette, Surly 110 bcd 40 tooth,9 speed XT rapid rise mech, n-gear stop and 10 Ultegra shifters. Had my first dropped chain in about a year over some really dry, deep rutted, twisty singletrack. Been using Surly stainless steel rings on 3 bikes and never drop a chain, may be they’ve deeper gaps than others?
I imagine it would be ok in a cross race?

Got a Geax Goma based on mboy’s recommendation for £19. Only a few rides on it but so far it’s good. Grippy, fast and puncture free (so far).

In my case avoid front mechs, everything was perfect 1 x 10 before I put a compact on. Seriously thinking of going back and losing the little bit of speed and climb advantage it gives me in return for a less frustrating ride.

Dr P – Got a carbon seat post on mine and have use carbon paste. The Thomson I was using before was prone to slipping, I think Thomsons are on the narrow side. The paste even helped prevent slipping on that post to some degree but I’ve found the carbon post much more comfortable than the Thomson. Occasionally a bit creaky but I think that is down to the crap clamping arrangement(Enigma)on mine

Got Bell Laps on my Tripster which are identical to the Cowbells and they are excellent. Fine on the road but it’s off road they really come into their own, Had Cowbells on before but they were 46cm which was a bit wide, 44cm are fine.
Absolutely no problem with STI positioning.

Feel for you cause it’s a beautiful frame you’ve built. My LBS over-tightened a front mech they fitted to my Peregrine and caused a dent which I only found out about 10 months later when I went 1 x 10. Added to my loathing of front mechs.

Yes! Exactly this, posted about it a few times, has been doing my head in. I must have subconsciously taken notice of Jamie’s advice cause I finally got hold of some copper grease yesterday and applied to the back of some new pads. Unfortunately the pads hadn’t really bedded in on the short ride I did yesterday so not sure what effect it’s had yet.

Absolutely fantastic especially the 47mm around the South Downs terrain in all conditions. Good road and rough compromise. One puncture in heck knows how many rough miles.

What I found out this morning was it’s not really working with a compact front and 11-36 out back. Jammed a few gears. Suppose I’ll have to reduce the ratio at the back or return to 1 x 10 which was fine and simple anyway. Still got some nice speeds though and a refreshing dip in the sea at Rottingdean!

47mm landcruiser fitted fine with plenty of clearance in the front.

Unfortunately same can’t be said for the caliper and spokes. Rather than change tyres, used a Stans Crest wheel and some spokes were hitting the caliper. Least I know now.

Are you having a dig at my bike? Open Pros working really well for me, light, strong and built a lot faster than your Jones wheels!

Just got a 2007 one a few weeks ago and we’re loving it so far. Took it to France and got loads of stuff in there including enough distractions to keep the baby entertained. Even got my bike in there though it was an Airnimal…….

So is it possible to put a 2 bike rack on the back?

Been running TRP spyres for a while, really good modulation feel if set up correctly but not convinced they offer better stopping power than the BB7s they replaced. Definitely a much easier set-up and less faffing with than the BBs. Low profile worked well with rack and panniers though I think frame bags and seat post bags suit the ATR really nicely.

HAHA Tim I knew you would! Just off to try a 47mm in the front on the Downs.

Hey gonetothehills, glad you like the Landcruisers, my absolute favourite tyre, yes they’re a bit heavy but for mix of road and rough stuff they’re unbeatable and I’ve never felt the weight climbing. Haven’t had a puncture in a year yet and traction is incredible, makes you feel really planted. Weirdly they seem to get better once they’re worn in a bit which I don’t understand. Tried the 47mm as well which is even better, but not tried it in the front of the Tripster, may just fit but clearance would be really tight…?

DrP, rode most of the SDW a few weeks ago. ATR was great but must of got close to losing some of my fillings. Wasn’t till I got to Washington and let my tyre pressure down a bit that it became fun!

Used a frame bag, old Carra barley and dry bag on the bars. Worked really well. Loving the bike packing pics!

Got an 11-36 cassette with a 9 speed mtb mech (old school XTR) and works with 10 speed shifters. Gets me up Kingston Ridge on a good day, lungs and grip permitting.
