On the Chinese side, I’ve got a ZTE Blade, they’re going for around £150 and I really can’t see the difference between it and far more expensive phones.

You’re not looking hard enough, sure it will prolly do the same things as, say, an S8, but a Dacia will do the same things as a Mercedes.

As with most things you get what you pay for, whether that bothers you or not is up to you.

Just had a play with the beta of the new Firefox and it is very fast.

Firefox Quantum (FF v57) is in beta and launches in November – promises to be 2x as fast as FF v56.

Couldn’t believe the noise coming out of my laptop when I used Chrome the other day – wtf is going on>check resources>jesus what’s chrome up to>closes chrome>fans silence.

Edit: Ooh Quantum beta is out

    Wow, just hit $5k

Shame they didn’t sort it out earlier given the price is just over $300 compared to a height of over $700.

    Isn’t it over $4k?

Yes, proper Bitcoin (BTC) is, but back in August the Blockchain forked and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) was created after disagreements by some Chinese miners and Bitcoin Core (?), So if you had og Bitcoins in August you also have the same amount of a new Cryptocurrency called Bitcoin Cash. This has fallen from a height of ~$700 to ~$300.

But it still means “free” money to anyone lucky enough to have a BTC balance in August.

What’s everyone done with their Bitcoin Cash? Blockchain wallet now lets you have your BCH if you had a wallet with them before the fork in August. Shame they didn’t sort it out earlier given the price is just over $300 compared to a height of over $700.

Paradise Lost, they formed in 1988, first album in 1989, just released their 15th! Despite me being a metal head for all of those years, (although I was more Mr Ravey Davey Gravy from 88/89-96) I never really interfaced with them. Now they’re my favourite Goth-Doom-Death-Electronica Metal band thanks to finally “getting” them via Spotify. Thanks Spotify.

We’ve been experiencing similar and other issues – it’s really a suboptimal setup. I’ve mitigated some of the problems by turning off Battery Saver for Spotify on Android. This doesn’t fix the fundamental “can’t see Chromecast audio on Devices Available”

The other “fix” I’ve found is requesting a new test account from Spotify who will then release your email address and set you up a new account, I’ve found several threads about it on Spotify and CCA forums.

    Zelda (not great for replayability)

The average time to complete the game is 170hrs for average completionists, not exactly sure what more you can ask for.

a decent quality gaming PC may cost more but it’s a far more versatile piece of technology.

True, but not a great comparison, can you play your “average gaming PC” on the tube, or on a plane, or even take it into a different room very easily?

Should add that if you’re not bothered about portability then the Marshall Acton is great, can be had currently for under £150

JBL Charge 3, I prefer it to the Flip 4 but it’s a matter of taste. It’s bigger less portable but has a much bigger battery and more of a bass driven sound The camo special edition is on sale at JBL for £105

Bought one on Saturday after selling my N64 and games on the bay. Absolutely fantastic it’s going to be a massive success for Nintendo with the obvious caveat that the games need to keep coming. Only have MarioKart so far but plan on getting Splatoon, Zelda, in the near future.

Price of the accessories though, ouch!

As to those who doubted the success/sales of the Switch

    Khazi

    Love that word

    Etymology

Variant of carsey, from euphemistic Cockney corruption of Italian casa (“house”),[1][2] possibly via Polari and Sabir [Term?].[3]

Alternative source: Cockney and/or British Military usage derived from Army experience of dysentery during World War 2 in Libya – Kharzi rhyming with Benghazi.

Great build this week, I’m surprised the “Car Showroom” is for sale.

+1 for your local plumber merchants trade counter, and never buy anything at catalogue price – these prices are just notional and there so your plumber can make extra on the supply and fit side.

Yet another +1 for DIY kitchens. The only thing I’d add is the premium (Gold?) delivery service is probably worth it, luckily the driver + mate gave us a bit of a hand with some of the heavier/more unwieldy carcasses.

Just renovated my gaff and went for a non vented system, very pleased with it so far. It’s great having mains pressure on every tap and water outlet. Loos fill up really fast compared to my old sclerotic vented gravity system.

It is more inefficent than a combi which just heats the water you use, but having a 250l tank full of hot water means I’ve never run out and able to have two mains pressure showers running at the same time with nae probs. Also if the boiler goes tits up you can still heat water via the immersion heater in the tank.

Wrong again. I think you underestimate the level of understanding of environmental and scientific matters by the majority of forum users. Feel free to link a reliable source to justify this claim.

I see. So you claim that we can implement a new national storage and distribution infrastructure, and make it low carbon. I look forward to your proposal.

After all the set up etc won’t the distribution be hydrogen based?

    Bimbler

People saying that Hydrogen is not an option because of energy cost need to look at the picture below

The three squares represent the area which needs to be covered in solar panels to power, the world, the EU 25 and Germany. Saudi for example has a massive amount of nothing land and a massive amount of sun and money, as well as a declining principal (only?) asset.

I refuse to use any streaming service on ethical grounds. The amount artists get paid is immoral, 1.2million streams earns less than a minimum monthly wage; way to make a living, huh?

A good point, but before everyone blames the streaming companies, how much do record companies make? Spotify also pays (over?) 80% of their revenue to artists, and still lose hundred of millions each year. Also how much does an artist get from a play on a radio 1 breakfast show, that’s about a million listeners?

What about Amazon? They have a steaming and a purchase/download model – not sure if they’ve combined them yet or indeed if any good.

Edit: Music labels are coining it in again

Music streaming hailed as industry’s saviour as labels enjoy profit surge

Bought a Sonos 1 for my kitchen a month or so ago. Expected to be blown away based on the hyperbole and reviews, sounded awful, turned off bass boost, whatever it’s called (which is on by default), sounded a smidge better, but still pretty tragic for a near £200 device.

I’m told it sounds ok with more vocal based music and classical, but for rock, metal and dance it is total bobbins, actually pretty shocked at how bad it was. To replace it bought a pair of active bookshelf speakers and plugged in a Chromecast audio. Nowhere near as good as a Sonos for a discreet device but the sound is so, so much better. If you’re used to the sound of a traditional hifi, I think you’ll find the Sonos a disappointment.

Also, the price of the Sonos Sub, jeez, ballsy move
