5800 – cheap, and good, almost everythign an iPhone does and for less money and on decent networks. The GPS mapping software lets you pre-download the whole world onto memory card if you want so no network charges, and I think turn by turn navigation is now free according to some ads I saw yesterday.

+1 Turn by turn navigation is free as of last week. Sportstracker which I tried at the weekend for the first time is surprisingly good and I've been playing around with Viewranger which offers OS mapping and gets great reviews. Free on a £15 18 month contract from Virgin.

Another heads up is the web browser Skyfire not as good as Opera Mini or Opera mobile but it does have the advantage of being able to play all the web video formats as well as a full monty web version of iPlayer rather than the rather truncated app based version (which for some reason doesn't have Radio 5 – football maybe?)

Not sure why you can't get the get free maps with higher than 31.0**** firmware – that's what I've got and it works fine.

Nokia link to 5800 free navigation download page

Sportstracker is ace too used it for the first time today. It'll get better too once they tie it in with Ovi maps better (seems to use Google maps on their website – which is only in beta). Only downside of Sportstracker is seeing how damn slow I was going.

been using nokia maps+nav for years, downloaded new ovi pc suite and it's a memory hungry monster so i've gone back to normal pc suite

Blimey you're not wrong. I knew it wasn't going to be a slim tidy piece of software when I downloaded it – 92Mb file. I've got it running currently and with my phone plugged in Nokia is using about 120Mb

Didn't realise that google maps did navigation too. I've just loaded the new maps application and it all seems very sweet and spangly* but then again I'm pretty much a n00b to these matters.

*(note to iPhone users – proabably not as spangly as the equivalent iPhone app)

that stuff isn't chocolate, its confectionery, Sugar loaded sh1te.

The point is it was "our" sugar loaded s-word. Workers paid taxes, the company paid taxes and dividends were paid mainly to British institutions, now it's all going to go offshore.

Yup what glenp said, cut the milk rewards out. Then maybe some controlled crying – horrible but better than the the possibility of years of interrupted sleep

I though it was one of the best STW articles in ages, maybe ever.

Agree. Not only a great tale but she can really write. Brilliant, I've read it a couple of times – is there more of it for the super members or whatever it may just persuade me to join.

We've an Outwell Montana 6, it has a sewn in groundsheet, it's a single skin so quite good to put up in the rain, we can pitch it in about 40 minutes but it's a bulky and heavy bugger – definitely need 2 to pitch. Saw them going cheap. Go Outdoors yesterday (£239?) but I've just checked their website and they're no longer available online. It's a great tent

After camping in it for the last 4 seasons we'd probably go for something similar to the tentipi above (£££££) or maybe one of those awesome dutch tents (De Waard etc) but spendy.

I've been using Avast for years but recently it's started to bloat a bit on my PC and started hogging over 100meg of RAM – even after a clean install. So looking for alternatives I installed MSE and seems to work.

Debt is a mugs game, you don't need a car or if you do get a cheap one for £500 anything else is a rip off. – Bangernomics makes sense

Maybe getting a house is acceptable but anything else just enslaves you to a system where you're just a pawn in the capitalist manifesto. – Pretty much yeah

Me, I'm never going to borrow anything. – Clever

I don't even see why I should have to buy work clothes. It's my money, why should I have to look smart at work? I wear this one shirt for a whole week and no-one knows! – If you wear overalls to work you can claim tax back on them but if you have to buy other work wear like suits you can't. The chap has a point. The shirt thing though ugh

Uhmming an ahhing over getting one of these myself. The X6 is out now which is the 5800's natural successor but is still very new to market and costs iPhone money atm, it's "meant" to sort out the shortcomings of the 5800 (a capacitive rather than resistive screen and a better camera) though reviews have been a bit so-so.

I recently went through the process of trying out a bunch of helmets, tried the Giro range and specialised range and they didn't fit me comfortably at all. So I'd definitely try the Kaos out before you give vent to that itchy finger. Ended up with a Met (again) but this time a roadie Inferno UL – most comfortable helmet I've had.
