The best evidence I’ve seen for was on the Horizon (?) show a few years back on this very subject and they talked to the uber geek in charge of tracking Apollo 11 at Jodrell Bank who followed the whole mission on his telescope. I just know he wasn’t lying. Also the laser thingy.

Jagwire ripcords seem to be well reviewed. Come in a few different colours too.

I’ve been running tubeless for a few years now, had to go back to tubes for a couple of weeks as I couldn’t get a tyre seated on a ghetto setup – Solved by this, hated it after getting used to tubeless. It’s not really about weight for me it’s about grip, you can run much lower pressures than with tubes and the tyres deform and grip better than with tubes in – although not sure if this is a function of lower pressures or not. Never going back to tubes.

“Tell em Steve Dave” – Not really what you’d call comedy, merely some grumpy middle aged blokes and friends of Kevin Smith bitching at each other. If you’re gonna give them a go listen to a few because it took them a while to get into their stride. If you’re a fan of Smith, Smodcast is also well worth checking out.

Just got the “despatched” email from Oakley, where are they coming from? All the UPS stuff looks like it’s coming from the US?

Quite often see the Lancaster(s?) I think I’m on the Duxford-London flightpath – I think they just follow the A10, but saw this yesterday flying slower and lower than the Lancasters fly, pretty impressive though doesn’t sound as good.

Unuterable butt torture, the most uncomfortable saddle I’ve ridden on since the greek island hire bike. I like wtb. Persevered for 3 rides and then flogged on.

I’ve been very happy with my Mavic TN719 (now on Pro II, originally on DT240). Couldn’t justify the extra for Stans at the time, but if I had the dosh would probably have gone for Arch, although in retrospect The Flow would have given the opportunity to run a fatter front tyre. Definitely tubeless though, it’s much betterer.

Very useful for making sensible decisions.

Nice link, seems the c4 scores quite well (lthough no data yet for Grand Picasso), while C-Max, Octavia, Volvo XC90, VW Touran score poorly

Jenn Hopkins – The Great Divide.

I can read it again and again, and it never fails to mesmerise me…

Pretty much this. It’s the only article that has really transcended reportage.

Didn’t they have a carbon 29er on their website a while ago, or did I imagine that?

Nope it was news back in Oct 2010.

On one introduce carbon 29ers….hurry up already

Oakley tried to take £245 this morning but my CC company rejected the activity as suspicious :sigh:

I’ve got a new, unused m770 11-32 cassette you could have, say £45?

    Edit

Actually you can get them for £45 on CRC, so £40?

I have my doubts but it would be nice if they did honour the sales, but not to any psstakers who ordered loads. It’s not as if they’re not turning a massive profit even at about 40% of retail.

I originally had Mary (730mm ish?) bars which I liked but comletely impractical for the local woodsy riding I do, cut em down to about 620mm. Thinking about Jones bars now.

We’ve done our family camping in a focus – it’s a squeeze. We’ve got fapa (smirk) roof bars as recommended by roofbox shop and were given a box by some friends it’s only a 320L job. Given the choice just get the biggest one you can afford, bloomin expensive for 2 bits of molded plastic iirc.

I was a subscriber for about 4 or 5 years, really enjoyed it for the majority of the time I subscribed, however I got a bit bored with it towards the end of my subscription. While previously I used to read the magazine from cover to cover and reading some of the articles several times over, towards the end of my last subscription the magazine used to remain in its plastic wrapper for days/weeks. Part of the change was me though, while STW seemed to concentrate more on bigger bikes/bigger riding in the STW demesne I had changed from a LT hardtail to a rigid SS 29er, so it became kind of less revalent to me I felt. I’ll definitely subscribe in the future though once the ennui has passed.

Spotted this thread last night after having trouble inflating my ghetto 29er wheels (for the first time ever, a track pump used to suffice, I guess the tyres have stretched?), I went for Ewan’s method. Works an absolute treat, thanks.

We eventually bought 2 prams, one for the car and around town, a Mclaren foldy job, and one for walking into town and around and about, a Phil and Teds. Luckily we have a focus and the P&T’s fitted into the boot ok. As you’ve got a Fiesta the seats fold, should be able to get and with only one child should be able to fit pram in there?

Gulp. We’re going through the same process and are seriously considering the scenic/grand scenic, thought Renault had upped their game. Are you talking about the new shape, post 2009, one?

IME, tops are on size, trousers are all over the shop.

If you worry about these things too much you might end up going home in a renault so be careful.

Ha ha, the Scenic (new shape) is one of the runners in my car search. Along with Picasso, C-Max and Verso.

I remember watching the crash test on a VW T25 on the NCAP website shortly after my first son was born. The cab was utterly obliterated and the rear wheels kept driving forward, the whole van just folded in on itself.

I’ve seen that or something similar, there’s one parked in my road with a “Jesus is my airbag” sticker, thinking he should have gone for the sorcerer not the apprentice.

Michael Phelps eats 12000 calories a day, he looks in pretty good shape

    Breakfast

Phelps kick starts his day and his metabolism with three fried-egg sandwiches, but with a few customised additions: cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and, of course, mayonnaise.

Amuse-bouche out of the way, he throws back two cups of coffee and sits down to an omelette – containing five eggs – and a bowl of grits, a porridge of coarsely ground corn. He’s not finished yet. Bring on the three slices of French toast, with powdered sugar on top to make sure there’s no skimping on the calories. And to finish: three chocolate chip pancakes.

    Lunch

With breakfast wearing off and the hunger pangs biting, Phelps downs half a kilogram – ie a whole packet – of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches. On white bread with loads of mayo on top. To remove any chance that his body will run out of fuel, he washes this down with about 1,000 calories of energy drink.

    Dinner

Time to load up on carbs for the next day’s training. Another half kilo of enriched pasta goes down the hatch with a chaser of an entire pizza and another 1,000 calories of energy drinks. And so to bed. As Phelps told US television channel NBC yesterday: “Eat, sleep and swim, that’s all I can do.”

Thought it was ok, although found it hard to shave around my nose. Would have persevered with it but it broke and kindly Mr Sainsbury gave me money back. If you want to save money I can heartily recommend Razor Pit – my current Mach 3 blade must be on 35 + shaves, kinda lost count though.

Karl Benz didn’t do too badly.

Ref to loads of eponymously titled German mega engineering corps who are all far far far bigger than anything Sugar will ever build.
