When I asked about LED I didn’t think that included the 5-800 quid HDTV’s I am looking at..

It doesn’t really just that as per retro83 said the LED’s in these TV’s are used for lighting, (either back or edge) where the LCD screen makes the picture.

In an OLED TV there is no need for LED’s to do the lighting as the screen is made of millions of tiny LED’s which make their own light.

Well most use LEDs that’s true, but OLED is completely different to cheaper stuff misleadingly called LED. Really those should be called LCD with LED backlight. In an OLED screen there are no backlights.

Yes, I should have made that distinction.

    1) Is led type tech it worth it?

All modern TV’s are LED based. (That bit is sponsored by LG) OLED is a better display technology but whether it is worth it to you is dependent on if you’re worried about dropping a few hundred more £££££ for a slightly better display technology. If you just watch SD and HD Freeview channels I doubt you’ll really appreciate the OLED difference. If on the other hand you’re replete with 4K Blu-Rays then go for it.

    2) Is there anything coming down the pipe that will make a current 600 quid HD telly obsolete in 5-10 years?

Yes micro-LED whatever you buy will be obsolete in 10 years. Just buy the TV you can afford now and don’t worry about it, literally no point in future proofing.

    3) Got any 60″ plus recommendations?

Not really but I think the Philips Ambilight TV’s are pretty good and often overlooked

Cheers Bimbler, that looks good. SO I create my own account buy xbox live with that and set it as the “home” xbox, setup kids with their own account and they can play online with my Live account.

    Yes

I assume any games that have passes or codes or what have you, need to be installed on to the kids account?

    Dunno, sorry.

As far as I can see, XBox Live is linked to the account you bought it on – so my Child accounts can’t use Live, which I need to fix so they login as themselves and get time limited.

Only set it up last week, but it seems like you can’t share a Live across the household. Which is rubbish.

Buy Game Pass – a Netflix-esque service where you can play all those games for free. Look for discounts, normally £8 per month but you can get an introductory month for a quid and there will be discounts available after Christmas (probably). Worth it, probably more worth it than Live in your use case. Play Forza.

I should add you do get some pretty good games for “free”, as in Free to you forever on Live too

You pay top dollar at CEX but they do promise a 2 year warranty – not sure how good they are at honouring it.

It’s very expensive but the Country Innovations Rover jacket is possibly the best thing I’ve ever bought. Much like the M65 linked above but £300 more expensive

If you can get a deal on your upgrade then go for it, you get a brand new phone and a second hand phone to sell. If not then don’t and go SIM only and save £££££s. iPhone 7 works brilliantly and will surely soldier on, barring accidents, for a few years yet. If you can get to an Apple store before the end of the year they’re doing battery replacements for £25.

However the lure of shiny is strong.

I know it’s all about choices but being interested in fidelity when you’re riding a bike while listening to spotify on bluetooth is a bit pointless?

Get a good pair of headphones for the bike, suggest something not too isolating and something else for when you’re not on the bike.

Snoop Dogg also wants a word what with his 16 solo albums gawd knows how many collaborations and 139 (ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY NINE) IMDB credits (just for acting btw, plenty of other credits too)

Also Joe Rogan, stand up comedian, MMA commentator, podcaster (up to 1211 podcasts on the JRE alone) hunter, fitness freak and pothead.

Any of you super productive non-stoners want to compare achievements/bodies of work?

These are for hot rather than cold burritos.

Fry Onion(s) in a moderate amount of oil

chuck in spices etc, I normally lob in Paprika, cumin, coriander, garlic powder, chilli flakes, salt pepper whatever really

Once softened add beans – I’ve done this with 1-3 cans of beans, usually kidney, borlotti canellini black, most beans work

Fry beans over a moderate heat for a few minutes, add a small amount of stock (I’m sure water would do too)

simmer moderate heat until beans are soft/softening

    mash those mofos

spoon into a wrap add cheese and grill (you can bake them too if you’re making a load, although it means you cant’s add extra topping easily) add extra fillings

Be interesting to see if you can make these as a microwaveable lunch – never done it meself

I need to give it another go I reckon. Watched the first episode and it seemed to be trying a bit too hard if that even makes sense? Does it carry on in the exact same vein?

Took me a couple of go’s to get into it.  It get’s more mental but once (if) you get it it’s a hell of a ride.  Really shows up the Marvel stuff which, while enjoyable, is a bit (lot) po faced.

When I refurbed my gaff I went with Varilight fittings, switches are ok sockets are a bit meh.  In comparison the Schneider ones are much much better, but more expensive.  You get what you pay for, wish I’d gone for Schneider but budget at time didn’t allow.

I tried some a few years ago and I didn’t like it, doesn’t seem to relax you at all any more, it’s more like a stimulant, mind racing a million miles an hour but not really functioning. ‘the buzz’ was just unpleasant to me.

Sounds like you were using a Sativa while expecting an Indica

Most of the stuff on sale now is genetically modified

If by “genetically modified” you mean selectively bred, then yes, yes, it is, just like everything you eat or drink with the exception of water.

Did you know, and I only found this out the other day, that Oranges are not a naturally occurring fruit

The orange is a hybrid between pomelo (Citrus maxima) and mandarin (Citrus reticulata).[2][6] The chloroplast genome, and therefore the maternal line, is that of pomelo.[7] The sweet orange has had its full genome sequenced.[2]

Dresden Files – loved by many, I’ve read the first 2 (or maybe 3) found them a bit meh but apparently they do get better

Anyone used CBD oil as an alternative?

No but THC is a good pain dissociative.  High CDB strains of the flower are recommended to treat inflammation so I guess CBD oil should work too.

But by far the most obvious cause, in my case is dehydration.

    This +2

First attack followed a summer camp where I largely “rehydrated” with ale and refuelled with grilled meat.

Had my first attack about 5 years ago, have had two subsequent major attacks and a few grumbles since then, the very definition of misery.

I’ve basically given up ale almost completely :sobs:, generally cut booze down, when I do drink I stick to spirits with the occasional glass of red with food have tried lessen my flesh consumption.  Find that not getting an attack in the first place is much much much better than treating it when it does come. Take a high dose vitamin C daily as a preventative

When it does come I hit the naproxen, hit the cherry juice, have tried all of the above except the treatment drugs oh and tried cider vinegar – bleurgh.  Find that as hot as you can stand it foot baths (it affects my big toes mainly) offers a bit of relief and seems to move the attack along a bit quicker.

I don’t think toe 2017 10.5 pro has much of an advantage over the 2018 base model, both use the A10 processor, the pro sports an X but I expect the 10.5 pro will be less capable than the 2019 A11 base model

Nah the “X” makes all the difference, bigger chip, more cores, maybe faster clock speed.  The A12x Bionic in the new iPad pros has insane benchmarks

New iPad Pro Has Comparable Performance to 2018 15" MacBook Pro in Benchmarks

Just pushed the button, on a 2018 iPad but not before remembering I had £70ish quid left on an old JL gift card.  First new apple product I’ve ever bought.

    Any case recommends?

FYI:  Apple pencil works with 2018 ipad although the 120Hz display and laminated screen make the experience much better on a pro.

    Having the exact same debate.

The conclusion I’ve come to is that unless you’re going to use the pro as a tool for the pro features, or the £250-£300 extra for the 2017 Pro means nothing to you then the iPad 2018 is the way to go.

The 2018 pros are proper amazing though.

Just imagine the tax she pays on that lot.  Pays for a lot of stuff?

While I think FOBTs should be heavily regulated and gambling TV adverts banned there is nothing intrinsically wrong with the business of gambling if well regulated.

Definitely check Dell, I got a laptop last year which would have cost £2k+ for ~ £700.  Said it was refurbed, looked new.  It was such a good deal that it must have been a mistake?

Did your presumably 4k tv recognise the 4k signal from the XBoneX on your old cable?  Not sure if I’m reading this corectly but if your old cable was HDMI 1.3 then it could only pass 1920×1080 at 120 Hz or 2560×1440 at 60 Hz.

So if you’ve got one of the newer HDMI 2+ cables then yes your picture will be better because it can pass 4k, 8k etc

On further reading the 1.3, 1.4, 2.0 version types are for devices not cables.  In terms of cables they have standard hdmi, high speed hdmi, and premium hdmi.

So maybe your old cable was standard, and new one high speed.

Ah, it’s what cougar said up there ↑↑↑

Live in suburban/market town Herts.  It’s alright. Miss living in a city tbh (Edit:  Having been back in the suburbs for nearly 15 years not sure if this is grass is greener thinking).  But then again nowhere I’ve lived ever seems like “home”. :sigh:
