I use PIA – don’t have the problems associated above (they have updated the client at least 3 or 4 times in the last 2 years). Very good. But they’re so good and so cheap that they must be a front for the NSA/FBI/ whatevs – half joking.

Mrs had one done here [/url], really rated it and has changed her road biking no end, bumped up her speed (which tbf was going up anyway) massively improved comfort etc.

Might be worth checking out recommend settings for your model on the AV Forums forum. Failing that contact the shop or manufacturer. Also check for reviews to see if that is a flaw of that model.

This, some AV geek will have tuned the, quite frankly, staggering ammount of options in all of the sub sub menus of the settings in order to get a natural picture. A good start is to turn off some of the top level processing bollocks.

mrblobby » Am wondering if a smaller tent and optional extension and/or day tent combination is a better more flexible bet as most camping will probably be weekends away.

We have a bear lake 6 that is great for a week or so away but puts you off going for a night or two as it takes 2 people and about an hour to put up.

Very much this, we have a Trout Lake, pita to put up and when doing weekenders use our Outwell Virginia 5, which is very much like a Vango Icarus. Incidentally by far the cheapest tent I’ve ever bought and also the only one which has never leaked at all. Takes 10 minutes to erect and prolly another 10 minutes to pitch and guy properly.

Oh and get a carpet, definitely worth it.

So you may get a larger tent later on but you’ll still have a weekend tent for now.

    **FREE TENT**

If anyone wants a free Montana 6 with front sun shade (not estension) and footprint ground sheet then contact me via my email. It’s from 2007, prolly a couple of seasons left in it, the last time we used it, August 2015 it was damaged in a big blow, the hole is on the side so not that critical and was successfully patched at the time. Pickup from Hertford.

Disagree that the montana is difficult to put up, it’s definitely hard to do it singlehandedly but very easy with two.

Imo these large family tents are not optimal, I’d go for something smaller and then a day tent or something like the coleman event shelter. If the weather is good you don’t spend any time in the tent, if the weather is poor then a day tent is more comfortable for the never ending tea/coffee drinking, kids can hang out in the tent.

If you’re in the mood to push the boat out and/or you’re planning on camping in that Europe then get a polycotton or canvas tent.

Just looked at the structural engineers report and it seems that Beam A, holds up the stack

    BEAM A – Span 1.4m Chimney Wall – Dead = 2KN/m2 x 1.6m 3.2KN/m

Whatever that actually means There are pages and pages of calculations after this.

Party Wall legislation is not straightforward. If I were in the OP’s position I’d be looking for advice from a Party Wall Surveyor, ideally one who was also a Chartered Structural Engineer

That’s what we were lead to believe, and we engaged a Party Wall Surveyor, when we saw his report and the possible costings of £3k (£180/hr) – although tbf much of this is due to the more complicated nature of the ground floor extension we’re also doing – we found out that most party wall agreements are not that complicated really. It’s only if the other party dissents that things get a little more complicated and expensive, natch.

Liked it and have high hopes for the series. What is it with British leading actors though? Aren’t there enough actors in America? The 3 leads are all played by people from this side of the pond. Dominic Cooper was very good but always imagined Jesse as a rangy 6 footer.

    +whatevs for JustinGuitar.

Daughter and I both bought acoustics to learn guitar and become jam buddies. Although after a decade or so of pissing about on bass and guitar in my yoot and therefore knowing a bit more than nothing I’m finding it hard to start from scratch. Quickly changing from doing his 1 minute chord changes and “Three Little Birds”, to trying to play 80’s thrash metal and hardcore punk.

Country Innovation Rover jacket, a two layer Ventile field jacket. Brilliant bit of kit for yomping around the British countryside. Obviously not for high energy pursuits but brilliantly comfy and robust, gives me satisfaction every time I put it on which is pretty much everyday from October to April.

My eldest son is in year 6 and had the maths paper yesterday, his first words to me when I went to collect him and his brother were ‘I don’t know what all the fuss was about, it was easier than the mock paper we did the other week’ .

Where are you- can we have the questions please?
I thought KS2 maths was tomorrow and Wednesday.

Yeah I thought maths is on Wednesday and Thursday??

Do you know any kids who can’t use a keyboard?

No my kids can’t touch type, despite my rather lame attempts to incentivise them to do so.

Not the SATS but why are they teaching a Government mandated writing style (Cursive) and completely ignoring keyboard skills. Weird Govian 50’s thinking or is there a reason with supporting studies and evidence behind it?

My fairly average youngest sat them y’day and said they were “hard but alright”, whatever tf that means. To be fair they’ve done very little but practice for SATS since Easter and her year 6 teacher is very good imo.

Yup, by far the best mobile I’ve ever had which is unsurprising as

1/ It’s by far the most expensive phone I’ve ever used

    2/ It’s brand new.

Edge thing is a gimmick/design feature, I’m sure you can “teach” yourself to use it, but unsure if it offers any advantage over the regular way of launching apps, phoning contacts etc. But it does feel lovely in the hand. The clock on the edge feature is useful as a bedside clock and looks very cool.

The biggest draw back to older Samsung phones was always the turd that was TouchWiz, but this has been ultra polished now and Googles help seems to have eliminated the jag and lag, add in Nova launcher and it almost reaches Nexus levels of clean – if that’s an actual thing. In fact don’t miss the Nexus experience at all.

Battery life is fantastic. Screen is stunning, absolutely no problem using it even in bright sunlight.

wrt being too big although it’s a 5.5″ screen it’s also fairly narrow.

The Gear VR thing is also a window on the future, no hyperbole.

A few years ago I toyed with the idea of becoming a primary school teacher, I had a few school placements in my area and one was a Catholic school for 2 days. I was shocked quite frankly by the amount of time devoted to religion and religion related shenanigans. I’m not sure if it was some sort of special occasion but I remember a whole morning devoted to creating some religious art bullshit, to add to the other religious bs which festooned every available display space, Ugh. Kids on the other hand seemed balanced and happy if no where near as advanced as kids in the other two schools I went to which were, tbf, the “best” primary schools in the area.

Wrt Dave Attell and other American comedians there are loads of their specials on Spotify.

Agree above about Jeselnik, he’s an amazing comedian but blimey is he dark.

+1 for Henning Wehn, saw him on his Eins Zwei DIY tour, properly funny. Tickets booked for his next tour too. Ramesh Ranganathan (sp?) was also good. Ed Byrne was a bit meh but my partner loved him. Marcus Brigstock was OK but a touch too polemical for my tastes.

Kind of limited to who plays in my local theatre really as my town only rarely has any other smaller comedy shows but a bit bored/down on the archetypal British middle class university educated beta, a bit lefty, a bit of a loser, a bit indy stand up comedian which so dominates your regular panel shows and therefore gets big enough to play regional theatres.

I like Steve Hughes but all the stuff I’ve seen of his has been the same material, hopefully he’s written a new show or two.

My favourite stand up is Bill Burr, he’s got a couple of specials on Netflix and has a twice weekly podcast.

Phew. Who do I approach about a Ground Investigation?

Yes I saw this, Geoindex thingy unsure what layer to use, returning white chalk on 1:625000, can’t find anything more than that, although when I dig about 30cm into the ground of the lowest terrace in my garden it’s clay?

Thanks all. Just got a basic quote back, in less than a day, and it doesn’t seem unreasonable. Thought that costs may put the kibosh on the whole thing.

Budgeted for 8m piles based on the fact that, as mentioned, we are on a hill but on “made-up” ground, how long does ground remain “made up”, my house has been there nearly 80 years, I think it’s either clay or chalk underneath that. Also the freshwater drain is about 5m deep from the level where the extension is to be built.

Thanks footflaps, any idea of the depth of the piles your friend had?

Are there any experts here who could advise please?

Plenty, pay someone for a few one on one kb sessions, swinging dirty great big lumps of metal about is a pretty good way of knackering yourself. Find someone to teach you proper form and go from there.
