With that sort of set up you probably don’t need to pedal at all. Pretty much an electric moped.

H&S legislation does cover all persons affected by an employer’s undertaking. It’s just that the road traffic act takes priority on the highway. I’m no legal expert, so not sure why the HSE can’t also bring a prosecution alongside the police when there’s been a breach of HSWA.

That video of daredevil above didn’t sell it to me at all. Looks more unrealistic than a WWF wrestling match.

Unfortunately Thomson posts often come up a little slim. Had it myself in a Whyte frame, different brand post fixed it for me after trying various other options like paste and seat clamp.

Oh and driver weight adjustable seats were an option – make things much more comfortable.

We have 13 2012 7 tonne Dailys on the fleet at work. Just coming up to the end of their leases.

They’ve been pretty good overall, common problems we’ve seen have been slightly temperamental electrics in the wet – marker lights need replacement remarkably often. Starter motors are starting to die on many, but they are used for multidrop so on and off all day.

All rear doors needed replacement under warranty as they redesigned the hinges and the washers used were not large enough resulting in a washer shaped hole in the door panels.

So far 5 have needed replacement heads – fortunately under warranty as a £5k job through the dealer. Identifiable by losing water.

    Think that’s about it.

Could be the hub bearings, I get it when my cup and cone bearings need adjustment.

I just picked up some ZTR Alpines for £35 a rim from Triton cycles.

Edit – wrong size! Should have read properly.

I didn’t give anything up, but I’m not worried – I’ll be forgiven in confession.

I, too, think that we need to have some kind of national road safety campaign on TV but, I do think that it needs to be wider focused than ‘Cyclist v Drivers’ as that is just confrontational and emphasizes any existing ‘us and them’ mentality.
Whilst I totally get the fact that cyclists are very vulnerable, the standard of driving in general has to be addressed – I commute by car (too far to commute on a regular basis) and the things that I see on a daily basis (in the same old, predictable, locations) would make you hair curl.
It’s a bit like saying “we need to clamp down on criminals that exploit vulnerable old people”, where we really just want to clamp down on criminal behaviour in general. (Which, in my opinion, is what a lot of driving behaviour could quite easily be classified as – criminal)
    </mildrant>

Why a wider focus? Drink driving, seat belt use, think bike – all very focused campaigns that worked. This is about how cyclists are treated, not about the general shambolic nature of our roads.

I think the biggest gains to cycling safety and cooperative road usage would come from a slick dedicated campaign targeted at drivers.

I’m not surprised the government won’t do it, but I’d definitely get behind a kickstarter project to get some pro cycling and road harmony adverts on primetime tele.

I’m even tempted to knock up some stencils and get some guerilla advertising done on my local commuting roads – just polite stuff like a picture of a bike and full lane text stating “my life’s in your hands”.

With the surge of ebikes manufacturers are kicking out (seen how many KTM have in their range now?) it won’t be long before an ebike specific strava equivalent is on the scene.

I think they are the future and that some attitudes towards them on here are a little short sighted.

Fair enough, I don’t think they are great for the trails – impaired riders excluded. But as a commuting vehicle? Brilliant!

You can still put in a big effort and maintain fitness if you want to – you’ll just see a reduced commuting time. I think the only reason they haven’t taken off is that the laws restrict the assist to around 15mph, and most able bodied riders can easily exceed that.

If they can reduce the number of cars on the road they have my vote.

I’ve not tried it, but what about this sort of thing – http://www.amazon.co.uk/DG-Nano-Ultra-Hydrophobic-Waterproof-Spray/dp/B00EYYEKYA

That’s out of stock, but do a search for nano waterproofing, buy some stuff and report back.

Surely trading standards need to jump on this? PCWorld are forcing additional sales on their customers.

I’ve bought 2 recently for family members from the Chatham branch – one was simple, but the other tried to tell me that I should have windows 8 set up by them for £25 – when I told the guy that was a total piss take they had great difficulties in finding the laptop I’d pre ordered without a pre set up version of windows.

Just had a sucsuccessful water birth at home two weeks ago today! The only thing that caused concern was the lack of a waterproof heart rate monitor for the baby (Doppler?) – made me very nervous at one point just before he was born. We rented the kit by the way and was nice and easy, the only extra I needed was a tap adapter for the filling hose.

Mate’s wedding in 2012. Don’t remember much, but I did flip a few tables and my wife left without me. Worst day of my life. Never touched a drop since.

Right, I’ve been back to the shop and I have a definitive answer. The salesman either lied to make the sale or didn’t know his products well enough.

The model I bought cannot be used with the supplied stand to mount it to the wall, but models further up the range can (any they come with the bracket in the box). This model needs a standard vesa mount.

Stoner, many thanks for your kind offer anyway.

The way I see it I do more miles on my commuter than any other bike so I may as well enjoy it!

A couple of bloody great big locks at work will hopefully offer some protection and the frame was stripped of all branding when I built it. It’s still nothing fancy, but I like it.

I have all of the 10 speed parts already and bought them all over time when I saw them for good prices. Just waiting for the current drive train to wear out and then will swap it all over.

I think the Deore makes more sense though at half the cost. Thanks all.

Safety shoes aren’t just there to protect your toes – as you are a sparky narrow your search by looking specifically for boots that protect you from electrocution. For example http://www.safeshoes.com/shopby/shoe_features-electrical_hazard.html
