The D1 is truly archaic and most camera phones out perform it!
The D5 doesn’t exist yet, you’ll need to wait another 3 years (they redo the flagship every 4 years).

As in the bottom of the D5 range there are three of them aren’t there not the 100 200 etc

So what? If he went into HMV, most of them would know what vinyl is, but most of them probably wouldn’t know what an Ortofon cartridge is…..

Apparently Vinyl sales are currently higher than they have been in a while and are increasing. On Radio4 the other week John Lewis were on saying they are going to sell music, but exclusively on vinyl 😉

    Yep it is I 🙂

I’ll try to find the repair first and stick a powerlink in, might not be easy :-/

Are you suggesting KEEP the link where the pin has been removed / replaced and insert powerlink into it – ie no need to shorten the chain any further?

I don’t know it’s a struggle trying to explain it, hence the 818181 stuff…you’ll figure it out.

Where the repair pin is push it out..push the other pin out on the other end you should have two ends with holes in put in a powerlink and you should have a solid repair with no shortening other than any you might have done at the roadside

One the tiny glycogen stores are gone (isn’t that in like the first 45mins of a race) you’re going to need topping up with food anyway.

I think you think way too much, Just eat more pasta the night before and a healthy dose of porridge and banana before you ride.

Outdated = mostly replaced by something newer.

Quite possibly so others might read it as inferior, has no place in the market etc. I’m all for digital and workflow and output has undoubtedly improved because of it, but film isn’t going to die anytime soon 🙂

    81818(7)81818

where 8 is the links with holes and 1 being the ones with plates 7 bing the repair

    81818(P)81818

Where P is the powerlink why wouldn’t that work?

I was like wwasw was getting at was just take the repair out and replace with a powerlink which are designed to be strong enough where a bodged pin repair is not.

I know a few pros who say the D800 is better than 35mm and on a par with Medium Format and the D800 is only 36Mp.

Don’t get me wrong I have access to a Nikon D1 for work purposes I use a D5 and my snappy snap camera is a D40 but of the prints I sell or exhibit are taken on a variety of film cameras 120 and 35 developed on archival paper. To say film is outdated is in the eyes of many just wrong…Old Fashioned perhaps or niche/elitist yes, but not outdated.

Just stick a powerlink in it…anyway I thought you were wealthy enough a new Dura Ace to be delivered in a fabergé egg? 😉

goodness knows what the equivalent Megapixels

Well when you consider that 35mm Film is equivalent to over 180Megapixels my guess would a 6foot ‘negative’ would be quite high 🙂

I was chuckling to myself by you suggesting that developing film is outdated, then saying you’ve been into photography for a whopping 9 years.

paterson tank? Nope I don’t know what one is either. I’ve been interested in photography since about 2003.

Are sales assistants all supposed to know about outdated stuff?

Do you go into John Lewis and ask for an 8-track player, or a gramophone??

Around 3am at Bontrager 24/12 I was apparently stopping and asking people for bovril.

Pack it every time without fail for it’s salty beef goodness!

Vegemite is Marmite for people who have sophisticated taste buds 😉

I am seemingly the only person I ride with to mash up a Chris King though I do put this down to possibly running it single speed under tension putting extra pressure into the drive side bearings…I’ll put new bearings in it and run it on another bike but worth the money? No chance.

XTR last me around a year, funnily enough exactly the same amount of lifespan I got from the bottom of the range Deore one.

So I reckon if I’m replacing a BB every year be it Deore or XTR i’m going with the one which costs me a tenner!

–Didn’t know about rose bikes will have to look at them, in future.

” mashing one after just 2 rides “

    – This is User Error.

They generally go with Notchy, grinding feel, play from side to side or if you’ve just left your bike caked in wet mud for ages they can just plain seize up!

I’ve done it before, but only for a ride because I’ve naffed up one of the others.

I simplified that by having 4 pairs of Elixirs now so all bike have the same rotors and same pads..easy!

Also what Mackem said…most manufacturers are going with the ‘flip flop’ design I guess it saves massively on their tooling if they only have one lever to produce?

Just buy two fronts/Rear and an either cut it or buy an extra bit of hose 🙂

Just finished off the Soggy Bottoms
Newnham stinger – Feb (next week I think)
    Bontrager twentyfour12 – July
A remarkably event free year for a change…missus might make me pay for a holiday :-/
I will probably do a couple of the Juice Lubes things.

I’m going to be doing a fair amount of open water swimming when the water temperature picks up as I was supposed to be doing my first Half Iron in Cornwall but ‘Human Race’ just pulled it without much explanation gutted doesn’t really cover it…still I’ll keep the swimming and running going as it’s a diversion from riding.

Not a proper Mountain bike but my first knobbly tyred 26er was aRaleigh Marauder 1988 or 1989 I reckon I was into Megadeth so it has to be around then.

Upgraded from that to a Kona, then to Pace, then to alcohol and women

I went in to Jessops Exeter on the off chance they would have a Paterson tank…

The man in the shop replied “A paterson tank, no, we don’t have any of those, in fact I’ve never even heard of one, what is it?”

    I never went back in.
