Instead they might just pretend they never bought them…..

Get a shimano XT, learn to look after it, and don’t ignore it if it’s anything less than glassy smooth. If the cones get crusty then you can always get another one and gut it, or just buy the spares. £35 ,job done.

0.1mm shim is your friend. Drinks cans are about this, but don’t last if you take the post out often.

just a combination of rubbish design choices, leading to a product that was never going to be particularly durable.

CB producing non-durable products is hardly an innovation!

this frame doesn’t need a the headset press fitted.

just use a hacksaw to cut the plastic bits, easiier when fitted to bike.

    A bit OTT!!

Lever the back of the cleated part out with a screwdriver… to open the spring. Do this when they’re on the bike to avoid stabbing yourself in the palm with it :)

What were the point of those 80’s style… *SNAP*.. Oof! Was that my over extended stem just snapping?

Drill the mudguards. I attached my raceblades that way as it only took removing the wheel to unbolt them if I wanted. You’ll need something to extend the bracket for the front so it sits close.. The Chomoplastics some with a chainstay bridge bracket that you can use.

    Yup!
I had an ex who was being a complete **** all evening while we were all getting drunk. Very drunk…
My subconcious response was to sleepwalk over to the corner of the room, and wee in her brand new Clarks.
I was embarrassed at the time, but now I’m quite proud :)

Pros won’t be stronger, they’re lighter.

They’re both.. Double eyeleted, so they’re more fatigue resistant too. They’re really nice to build, as they’re usually very round to start with.

edit: the Excellights are nice too, but I’ve built a few of both, and the Pros build easier.

Today I had someone ask of me: “Who’s that over there?”

    That’s Gary Fisher..

    5th sprocket looks knackered.
for what it’s worth, it’s an SLX, not an XT anyway.

We build loads of bikes with them. They’re solid, noisy, and really reliable.

Here’s an idea.. Just buy some stuff. Wear some of it when the weather allows. Take the rest off and put it back on when it’s colder.

Lusso max repel tights are pretty sturdy, but only good for the very cold days. You’ll stay warmer if you get rid of the baggies though.. Cold wet fabric flapping against you does nothing.

You’re all dafties! Bikes go in, or on the back of cars.. Not on the roof!

Do you know how tight is too tight?

The difference will be when you have to remove them, strip or snap the bolt and end up with a stub stuck in your hub :)

Threadlock, 2-3 finger tight and you’ll be alright!

If there was an accident involving a dog on a trail and a biker what would the situation be if the rider was injured/bike damaged?

The dog owner would be negligent and responsible.

Edit: they would bear less responsibility if it was a shared trail, but at a trail centre it would be 100% their fault.

I’d try levering out each spring on each pedal with a big screwdriver to see if there’s a weak spring in there somewhere.. Otherwise I’d suggest that it’s not a pedal problem :) Try angling the cleats in or out to give you a larger release angle.

I’d get your hanger alignment checked, and set the b tension screw while in the small chain ring.

    BMC.. British Mountaineering Council.
You have to be a member, and check which policy it is that covers it, but it’s cheaper for the first years membership anyway. I’ve claimed off them before for landing on a camera in my backpack, and they covered it and my helmet.

    That’s really gutting :(
I built a new bike and everything!
Good luck to the organiser in getting a new and betterer job.
I’m up for brownbacks though.. None of this Midland splitter malarkey..

Splitting a reducer crown race = bonkers!

There’s a very good reason why it’s big, chunky, solid, and hard to fit.
As for why it’s hard to fit, it’ll have the same ID as a normal crown race, but be much much stiffer, and the only way to make it easier to fit would have been facing the crown race… It’s a tool that surprisingly few bike shops actually have.

Avanti Aria 1? We’ve just started doing them at work.. A proper Specialized killer at £350.. The Aria 1 is the same spec as the £370 gents one, which is the same as a £400 bike in anyone else’s money. They’ve got really *really* good wheels and tyres (unlike the big S!), and they size up relatively small and are a very good weight. Properly nice.

A good one if the kids are older is to go down in the workings at Parys mountain. The Parys underground group go down there, I think every wednesday evening.. It’s amazing, with everything covered in acidic water and decaying. Deffo not for the scared or claustrophobic though.

Campags are available with Shimango freehubs now… I have a set ofhte CXs sat by the till at work. I can’t work out what the actual difference between the CX and standard road versions is though. The rim seems identical externally.

Last time I went there I parked in the Pontrhydyfen car park (which is free!) and started on W2.. Stopped for a coffee and cake at Glyncorrwg.. Climbed Whytes, did the black run, and then followed the fire road over and did the whole of the July trail descent of Skyline, climbed Whytes again and went over to finish Y Wal. All the best bits!

You can get expensive third party cassettes that fit Campagnolo spacing on Shimano hubs but the easiest thing to do is stick with Campagnolo free hub / cassette.

The shifting is rubbish on these. There’s plenty of good wheels available with Campag freehubs.

Schwalbe tires and people running low pressure tubeless suffer badly in the quarry.

    Shit! 8O

    EDIT… actually,

    people

, I’m sure you mean fat knackers. I’ll cope… (I’m sure to get grief for this!)
