Well that was good day out – bit of bike pushing involved especially the climb uo to Manaton and Simms hill nearly finished me off! – Cracking weather though :-)

The best way to get deep into the north moor is to go via the firing ranges at Okehampton ( when not firing obviously) – I had a good adventure that way when I tried to get to cranmer pool – a most excellent day of hike a bike/bog hopping/ I am lost and Army types paying war with blank rounds as you cycle past- a good ride on the south moor is up to redlake ( google red lake ) via an old tram way that winds it way into the moor from near Ivybridge – managed to explode the rear tube on my jones racing the sun coming back down ( it was in Feb and cold as the sun dropped) . Lustliegh cleave is good as well – there is an event called devon dirt on easter sunday hats a good day out as well ( lanes/byways/woods/moorland)

Well I have 2 Jones and to me the Speedball looks great and I would love to have a go on one ( pretty good pricing as well, if I had not just spent all my money on a Jones space frame plus I would be after a test ride!) – good effort by Jonestown as far as I am concerned – can’t understand why people get bent out of shape about who makes what TBH – its all bikes so its all good and as they say theres nothing new under the sun !

I had a shoulder key hole surgery on 2nd Dec ( no repair work done though as not a lot of damage found) – off work for2 weeks and physio going well, was back on the bike after 12 days – was as good as an operation could be – I wouldn’t worry about it

I would recommend the 2.8×27.5 rear to go with the fat front as thats what I have on my Jones – good combination and does help to smooth out the trail ( and it matches the outside diameters of both wheels)

Ton – keep it! I find I am up and down with my Jones space frame depending on my fitness – I think that you have to be relatively fit to get the best out of a Jones. I went though a phase early in the year when I was obsessed about how heavy the Jones was ( its a steel one) now at the end of the year I don’t notice it. Just had a shoulder operation and will be off the bike for a while so I expect when I start again I will be worrying about the weight all over again …………….

I was a tree surgeon for 12 years and still wake up worrying about what a chainsaw could do ( did stick one halfway through my left foot once – but that was doing forestry work!) – glad to be out of it !

On my Mk 1 I can get a 3″ knard ( on a 30mm internal rim) in the front and a 2.3 ground control in the back ( on a 35mm internal rim)

I dug my old charge duster SS out and fitted some 700×35 wheels I had in the shed – mainly for the commute to work to try and get a bit fitter on a relatively short commute – It has increased my fitness and I really noticed this on my geared bike ( only ridden once) – problem is I find riding geared a bit hard now as I am always in the wrong gear !

Don’t know what that proves but happy riding SS here

The 27.5 + thing is working well for me on my Jones – I originally tried it as a 27.5 x 2.8 rear was a closer match to my 26×4 front from a diameter point of view compared to my 29×2.4 rear wheel – but as it turned out I actually preferred the added bounce at the back

I had an email response from Brendon who works for Jeff when I was asking questions re the space frame plus – the info from Jeff was that the space frame is not necessary for the plus as the long chain stay and 3″ tyre makes more of a difference to comfort than the vertical compliance of the space frame – looking at the pictures of the space frame plus on Jeff’s website the rear chain stays don’t look manipulated like the 29 space frame

Having said all that I would still like a space frame plus for the standover and the smaller size as I have a 50mm stem and straight seat post on my 29 space frame and would not like to go any bigger – just need to see one in the flesh( as not convinced about the green colour) /have a test ride to see if its sufficiently better than my 29 one

Very good question and and its something I would like to know as well – i have a 650B+ on the back of my 29 space frame and have been watching the plus space frame with interest – a 29+ and 27.5x 3.5 or so would be excellent

With a trailblazer in the back on a Stans Hugo the clearance on the chain stay is a bit minimal but its been ok so far even in mud – I am running a 2×9 set up and in the small ring on the front and large cog on the back there is about 1-2mm clearance between the tyre and chain – it all seems to work ok though and I have not any problems with this set up ( been like it for a year)

I put my 29 wheels back on the other week but changed back to the 27.5+ set up pretty quick (i.e. after 1 ride) and will probably keep my Jones this way – very interested in the Jones 29+ space frame though !

Yes I have tried a 26×4 on the front and a 27.5 x 2.8 trailblazer on the back – really good combo for rocky terrain – now running a 27.5 x 3 on the front and I like it that way – if I could work out how to attach a picture I would post one up

I have a knard in the front on my Gryphon – not a rabbit hole but a Nimbus dominator rim ( 42mm) – about 10mm clearance either side from the fork

cant see to upload a picture though

Tyre is ace by the way really eats up rocky trails and the grip is amazing really worth trying and not at all draggy at 8psi!

I would be very careful if I were you. If the tree is owned by the council you should contact them and ask them to survey the tree and ask for it to be removed if it is in fact a nuisance ( debatable). Ask to have an onsite meeting with their tree officer (Arborist)

The council will be considered as a responsible tree owner and are obliged to ensure that their trees are not a danger or nuisance to others

If you take action your self you could be liable for a fine that is up to 10x the amenity value of the tree ( this can be quite considerable in the order of £10K!) if the tree can be seen by other people in the locality

I used to be a tree surgeon so hence the above.

Our wedding cost £65 – registry office and off to the pub for lunch – all concerned were happy! ( bit of an awkward moment when the registrar asked my wife to be’s birth date and I forgot [nerves!] we have only been together 25years!)

I have Titech jones copies on my Gryphon – to be honest its the best mod that I have done to the Gryphon – now really comfortable and much better off road – have also fitted a knard tyre and that really good as well – guess I am drifting towards a Jones!

The latest one at my workplace is ‘ Granularity’ – started off with an ‘ e learning’ module on line regarding ‘ cyber security’ ( from head office) – Granular – in the context of computers its digital 1 or 0 FFS!

this is now being used by all and sundry to mean ‘ if we look at the detail’ ( as in ‘lets examine the granularity’)

    Rant over
