headset, to impatient to find a proper press, so I used a block and a mallet instead. In my defense I’ve used this technique with success before…but it didn’t this time. 🙁

sorry double post…also realized I forgot my opinion…I think every steel or ti bike should have them…depends on the full-sus…some of them look cheesy

Shib, Hairy is doing exactly what he should do…he can’t be there 24-7 to protect his wife and child so removing them from the situation shows them that he takes their fears seriously and will do what it takes to protect them. I’m sure if he were there when the perp(perv?) came in, then he would have acted a little more aggressively but given the circumstances and the people involved, he is more than MTFU. Putting others above yourself and your foolish pride is what a real man does….maybe one day when you have a family of your own you’ll understand what that means…maybe.
Best of luck to you Hairy…don’t let the little boy on here get under your skin, he’s only jealous…you’re doing the right thing man.

thanks alot for the feedback everyone, james- I’ll be running narrower xc rims as I can’t afford new ones right now…got 2.3 wtbs on them now tho…maybe I should wait till i get wider rims?

stuartlangwilson- how about as a front…looking at possibly pairing it with an ardent rear, thought it’d give me more grip up front.

bump…but for the file for the older steel ones (08ish) looking to repaint my steel 456 🙂

I don’t know about the c456 but my “standard” 456 handles brilliantly. I would caution tho…the c456 can’t take tapered rockshox forks, headtube is to short for that, tho I reckon it’s not that big of a deal if you don’t have a tapered fork.

    but i bet it’s not…

I think they should get rid of the wimpy handle bar thingy and make it a powered skate board. One step closer to a hover board… 😀

thanks snotrag…guess it must be those rims, cause to me they looked way bigger than my 2.3 wtbs I’ve got.

snotrag…what size are those tires? they look huge! 😯

I’m from the US, bought into the 29er hype and guess what! I own a 456…loads more fun than my 29er was. everyone over here (me sometimes included) are just a bunch of mindless sheep that listen to the media to much when searching for the “next big thing”. to each their own I guess….

I think that this is purely preference. I’ve done the 29er thing and not done well with it, just didn’t fit my style, at the same time there are alot of people who love them and will no longer ride anything else…but if you’ve got the kit, then I don’t see why you couldn’t use it…it’s nice to have a quiver with both in them, spesh if one’s a soul.

i’ve got an instigator fork and have used it with QR’s…never checked the tabs tho 😳 but in my defense it’s on my path bike and it doesn’t get the ride time like my main mtb.

Andy, I’ve owned one for going on 3 years now and I’m going to agree with nick about the weight, but for the money they are spot on. With 130mm u-turns I think it rides fantastic, the geometry is well sorted and the ride quality is fine with low tire pressure + large volume. There are def better frames out there, but not at this price and I’d reckon it beats out slightly higher priced competition as well. Like I said, weight aside, a great ride with great geometry thats alot of fun, just not the best choice if you’re concerned about how light a bike is.

    hope this helps! 🙂

how about some vibram five fingers…they seem pretty cool, not sure about comfort/sizing tho. I’ve only ever used brooks for my running

don’t have a soul (bike anyway) but have something very similar. I run 685mm as well, wide as can fit through the trees ’round here

I live in the US and my UK hardtail is as niche as it gets around here…matter of fact I think I’m the only person with a long travel hartail within a 500 mile radius…. 😀

Hey guys! OP here, thought I’d give you an update. I think I’ve decided on moving my prowler out back and putting an ardent up front (so neither high roller or nevegal after all!) thanks for everyones input, it helped me look outside my two options and ultimatly choose something else. Thanks!

I would check a couple of things…first, if you bought it second hand make sure that you know what year of bfe it is. The new one has the 31.6, the old one is smaller (I’m not sure by how much tho sorry). Second make sure there is no paint overhang at the top of the seattube or in the keyed slot, and third check to make sure there is no coating on the inside of the tube (frame saver, ect.) or corrosion of anykind.
Also can you get the post to get in there at all? Maybe even a little bit?

Thanks for all of the input everyone, tho sadly so far I think I’m more confused than ever, haha. I’m thinking maybe I’ll keep my slow rolling prowler up front, then try a 2.2 in the rear?? heck idk…this whole tire thing has gotten really complicated….. 🙁

@ iainc I’ve looked at the rampage (it was at #3 on my list) how does it roll?

    bikeryder85
    Free Member

@ swavis: I’ve always wondered that too, the prowler works well as a front, though a bit porky, not as good rear tho in my opinion…I’d like to find a faster high(ish) voulume for the rear, just looking for some options, nothing of wtb’s is of my liking for the rear.

those rubber queens are a fair bit lighter aren’t they?

    bikeryder85

Thanks for all the input so far, I would almost run a 2.1 in the back but last time I tried that my terrain shredded them no matter the psi…
@ Fortunateson09: I’ve looked at the Nobby Nics, but I’ve heard they get a bit sketchy when things get wet…
@ peachos: I’ve looked at rubber queens as well, but thought they looked a little slow, tho not any slower looking than the High rollers I guess, lol

    keep the suggestions coming!

Really…so do they roll pretty well? and what kind of setup do you have them on? if you don’t mind me asking.

    1st:
I have studied fine art for the last 10 years, and this is by far the worst example of modern art I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen paintings by some fantastic contempory artists go for less and I can vouch for more hours going into the paintings than this upholstered peice of scrap metal.
    2nd:
From the view of a cyclist…ROTFL!!!! I can’t wait to see what kind of Putz buys this thing! 🙄

hahaha…wow…so i’m surprised nobody’s mentioned the poor use of the xc guide+bash (def not suposed to be used like THAT). I agree with cannondaleking on who is really selling it… 🙄

given the parts build you may want to consider saving for a mojo HD. burly, light, efficent, and two travel options out back (140-160mm) might just be up your alley if you’re willing to spend a little more.

thanks for all of the help and advice everyone, I think I’m going to end up with the flows, if I can get them to 1600 grams (which I can) then they’ll be plenty light.

geetee1972: I’m not the smoothest rider, and I like to launch off stuff, so maybe I should go tough route so I don’t have to worry about my wheels holding up.

Now to choose between black or white….
