Most sections on the red have been changed in some way in the last year
again – agreed! But I think this level of expenditure was a once in a blue moon chance to seriously upgrade trails and build new trails both at GT and Innerleithen. This level of money won’t be spent on a Scottish Trail Centre for a long long time if ever.

A lot of local authorities would argue that the money would be better spent in their area giving them a trail centre rather than adding more trails to an existing popular centre.
Another argument is why spend money on remote locations that a large proportion of the people who would benefit most from mountainbiking cannot get to, why not spend the money on urban mountainbike trails, like the proposal for Craigmillar Castle Park and the Vat run at South Queensferry. An equally valid argument could be put up for Glasgow, Central belt, Stirling, Aberdeen, Dundee etc.

I take it that E&T will still be guiding and coaching at Glentress even after the lease of the Hub runs out. Running a boycott of the new cafe and Peel could have a knock on effect on that business. If the new cafe owners don’t like the boycott they could exclude E&T from the cafe and the FCS could stop them hiring the training nnd business meeting space for running courses.

Are they not constantly upgrading/repairing the trails and building new trails? Has Spooky wood not just been resurfaced? New bit of trail above the Skills loop dropping west to the green run, plans to redo ewok village.

The Glentress Peel is about more than just Mountainbiking, it also covers osprey viewing, and a new forestry commision building. See Linkand other visitor attractions if you read the link you will also see it has been partly funded by Scottish Enterprise and Sports Scotland.

A five to ride is hardly a scandal! 2 in a car, possibly not given the cafe any money, getting to ride someone else’s trails for £2.50??

    On land owned by

    Just like Hospitals
I feel sorry for E&T they’ve put a lot of hard work in to the area, I wonder what will happen with their guiding and coaching business, especially if they fight the new cafe.

Different definitions for different people. For some of the more socio-economically challanged youths they would say:
There must be jumps, it’s no mountainbiking without jumps.
    There bike must be “minted”
They will ride it like they stole it, whether they did is another question.
Some sections of the trail will be “Pure Jailbait”
Any minor crash will entail them telling the rest of the group “I nearly died”
There must be a section where they can wheelie for at least a hundred feet.
There must be skids to bring the bike to a stop. “I’m no using the front brake I’ll go over the handlebars”

TJ, I think you have to ask the question: “why do you need to define Mountain biking”
Are you having a moment of doubt?
Are you worrying that you might not be a real mountain biker?

Not sure on the no hangover the next day. But this is a strange way to get drunk, 1 bottle of yellow chartreuse, 1 shot glass. Fill shot glass drink shot but hold it in your mouth, the longer the better, after a few minutes your cheeks will start to feel slightly numb, after 10 minutes you’ll no longer feel them and may start to dribble, repeat till you can no longer stand.

Does this mean he will automatically have to pay the £200k back, or will the NOTW have to take him to court to reclaim the money?

Having tried both paniers and a bob trailer, I’m a convert to trailers the bike feels nicer to ride.

Get to your GP, tell them it is affecting your ability to work, you’ll then get a referal to an NHS physio. You’ll be looking at about three months ultra sound and physio, but it will recover.

The genius of TJ’s trolling is that it’s a by-product of his opinion. Rather like methane is produced when a cow shits.

    “guffaws”

    I am not a troll

That sounds odd, which direction of changing does it happen? if it is always when you are changing into the higher gears then it would probably indicate a problem with the cable as the Bike Chain says, if it is when you change into lower gears then it could be cable stretch. Good luck sorting it out.

So we are agreed then, when aproaching walkers from behind, a audible friendly warning of your prescence is the best approach.

It in that situation that a ping from a distance away sometimes helps

I thin those that don’t use bells should try one – remember to ping it from a distance away. You will be surprised how much it smooths the way.

I know on the surface voice seems more polite but my experience is thats not what the ramblers think

And I’ve seen people grump at people using bells, I agree with Druidh a bell is impersonal, you can change the tone, volume of your voice much better than you can a bell.

So TJ am I in the wrong for not having a bell and shouting Ting-a-ling from a suitable distance behind them?

Luked2 I was assuming that per head of population it balanced out, thereby allowing us to measure income by percentage of population.

I don’t know if I’m being stupid here but from this

The formula dictates that for every £1 the Government distributes, 85p goes to England, 10p to Scotland and 5p to Wales. With five million people, Scotland now has only 8.3 per cent of the UK population. That has led to a situation where “identifiable spending” in Scotland on public services is £1,500 higher per person than in England, according to Treasury figures.”

Means that Scotland puts in 8.3% and gets back 10%

Which seems to disagree with this

    TandemJeremy – Member
gusamac – thats right -.Contrary to what spongeboy said English taxpayers do not support this as Scotland contributes more to the UK economy than it gets.

When I lived in Perth W.A I was attacked by their version of a Magpie it flow alongside me and tried to peck my earring out, quiet scary with cars wizzing by me.
Late one night in Edinburgh coming back along the North Edinburgh Cycle path just by St Georges School, I saw one Badger off to the side of the path and another I presume it’s mate stood in the middle of the path starring me down and growling. I was absolutely stumped as I could only do a bunny-hop so I had to ride around it.

Or as I do. Buy a tine of putoline – £18 a kilo. Its a messy faff but the lube lasts far longer than any other lube I have seen, it does not attack dirt, your drivetrain remains sweet as a nut.

Even in winter its only needing to be redone after hundred miles or more.

Its so much cheaper and better than any other lube.

So that’ll be every week or two according to your own average milage figures!!!!!!!
