I have never needed more than that. I do keep my bikes in good condition tho

Well apart from those two rear mechs you snapped, though to be fair they were second hand so it probably isn’t your fault.
But the brake pads that ejected themselves at Ravelston woods as they weren’t installed correctly!!!!!!!

Thanks PaulD, so the NBT2 is a lot like the hypercracker. No problems so far with the sushi fish.
I forgot about the gloves for dirty work.
I used to carry a small socket set mainly for loose cranks but so many bikes have 8mm bolts now. Could have done with a crank extractor and bottom bracket tool last week, but I can’t carry everything.
And yes I have used everything there.

A kid in Edinburgh had his Kona Stinky taken from him this week by three youths on motorbikes wearing balaklavas, distressing for him as he now doesn’t have a bike, in the long run they did him a favour as he’s got rid of a heavy skill compensator so he’ll now learn to ride properly.

Just got a pair of 5ten Hellcats reckon I could climb E1 in them so walking on rock should be easy. Pretty expensive and heavy though.

Last time I was down there my cycle ‘puter registered 52.4Kmh(32.75mph)I’ve since recalibrated the ‘puter by 1.75% as my trip round Beinn A’ghlo was out by this factor. This would then give a figure of 51.48Kmh(32.177mph)

Not wanting to rain on anybodies parade or say what is right or wrong. From the Pentland Hills Regional Park Website Cycling in the Pentlands

The paths over the hilltops are not recommended for cycling because they are very
vulnerable to erosion and the vegetation takes a long time to re-establish.

where in Edinburgh Surrounded By Zulus? I know only one in Mussleburgh.

Surely the one at Musselburgh is a BMX track, it was in the past and was upgraded as a BMX track. There is one at Hailes quarry park, but it’s not very good as a pump track as it’s to big and on to much of a slope. The other one I know of is at Drylaw, another renovated BMX track, it’s rubbish at being either.
There is one being planned at the VAT run out at South Queensferry and another being planned for Craigmiller Park.
I hope the designers go to look at the one at Cardrona.

WTF are you carrying 15 kilo when walking? I will be away for two nights wild camping this coming weekend and will be carrying under 10kg

That’s because you’ll be making SWMBO carry the heavy stuff.
Two nights wild camping? I thought we were camping by the Bridge of Orchy hotel on the first night.

    From lowland outcrops

All of the cliffs in the park are covered by by-laws outlawing climing. However climbing has been tolerated in the south quarry for a number of years. For the rest of the crags, the 2003 LRA states that all existing by-laws restricting access must be reviewed by 2006.

I always took this to mean that you could climb roped in the south quarry, it may be that the rangers turn a blind eye to it.

To my knowledge they never did review this and climbing is still a grey area which you can climb but not use any gear!

I don’t think that is quite right, as far as I know they allowed access to the south quarry if you are a member of a climbing club or went to the park police and registered to climb. This allowed you to climb in the south quarry with or without gear. There are however only a few routes with decent belays at the top, but plenty of good bouldering including the technical black wall traverse british 6b.

Cycling on Cossie hill is perfectly legal, was banned before under local bye-laws. Under the Scottish oudoor access code you can access the area responsibly. The problem with Cossie hill is “the Friends of Corstorphine hill” some of them are anti anything but themselves, citing erosion and scaring the badgers to keep bikes of the hill. Some of them do keep putting branches on trails but you’ll soon learn where they are, and are not so bad as they were in the past.

Have a wander to your local TKMaxx they sometimes have good named rucsacs at cheaper prices, but no guarantees they’ll have stuff when you go. Got a Breghaus Freeflow 30 there a couple of years back and regularly see kit there.

The good news for Dougie is that he now has the lap record for the puffer, 1 year and running. He didn’t pass the start line again and so his time is still running.

I have both the lezyne and the Topeak mtn morph, I prefer the mtn morph as it is more efficient at pumping and less of a faff to use.

And once again the attacks come in about things I am supposed to have said but never have.

You really are a sad lot sometimes.

I like being sad, but just sometimes. It makes the happy times seem even happier.

From what you say on here regarding cycling in Edinburgh: the daily near-death incidents, cars trying to get you from all angles etc, you are not living in the same Edinburgh/universe as me but a parallel multiverse Edinburgh, and are somehow managing to connect to the internet and post on stw in this universe.

I’ve often thought this too, although there are other possibilities.

    (a) I ride around in a bit of a daze and I’m completely unaware of the potential death surrounding me.

    (b) Julie is still putting that “PLEASE KILL ME” sticker on TJs back when he leaves the house.

    (c) He starts talking to them about stress aura’s/ helmets and their dangers/how some tyres are better than others/the advantages of tandems/definitions of mountainbiking and scares them into staying well away from him.

will you do a running commentary T.J?
only i have 6 square meters of drying white emulsion to watch and need to decide between the two.

I wouldn’t hold your breath we’ve been waiting for the thirty yard front wheel skid video for over two years.

We’ll I’m just back from a ride, and I thought I’d try the TJ patented road skills. Pulled up to a junction in the middle of my lane stopped the regulation 4.5″ behind the white line and waited for the lights to change. Hey presto along comes some twonk on their shonky commuter pulls over the white line and stops right in front of me, all the time I’m holding a no-handed track stand whilst flossing my teeth just to show them I’m a cyclist of no mean skill. The lights change and off he ambles at 7.56mph.
Now I know this was one incident and it has not been peer reviewed but it got me thinking where does this leave TJ’s argument.
So I think STW should carry out a scientific experiment, on your commutes home tonight everybody should cycle in the TJ patented road safe manner. and report they’re findings.
I wonder how many people it will take to convince TJ to stop his pontifications ;)

Well that’s quangos for you, talking shops earning some large dollars ;)
Sorry, I didn’t think that some posting about more money being spent on trails realised there were other funding bodies, and that the development is all about MTBers.
Can’t agree more with you on the rest.

The problem with spending it all in one place is that everybody can see, but not everybody can access the resource. At least if you start to spread it around the local authorities can contribute as can local charities and interest groups.

    >if you read the link you will also see it has been partly funded by Scottish Enterprise and Sports Scotland.<

    Your point being?

That it wasn’t just the Forestry Commissions money being spent on the visitor centre. These quango’s were likely seeing the positive effect on the Peebles local economy and decided it was a good investment, and maybe a spur to stimulate further projects in other parts of the country.
