I was in a similar boat a few weeks ago. I arranged for a morning interview (10am) and called in with "car trouble – I'll be in later." No-one was any the wiser.

Depends on being able to get a morning interview though!

to me Will Self comes across as someone trying to do an impression of an intelligent person.

Although Rafa#s a bit of a problem, so's the strength of Liverpool's squad. Would £20m be better spent on getting a new boss, or on 2 £10m players?*

*Actually, the way Rafa would spend the money, it may be worth it so he doesn't waste the next £20m.

It all just makes me think of "Wild Wild West" – that awful Will Smith film.

I think Humphrys is great, especially with smarm-mongers like Mandelson. He asks a question and interrupts when it's clear they're not actually answering it.

    My tip is:

    DO NOT TAKE ANY SHORTCUTS!

This way lies ruin. Go to bed now and do it all properly tomorrow.

The bike was fine, just not sufficiently different to my other bikes. I sold it and bought this frame and forks with the money – much more fun!

This was mine. To be honest, one of the only bikes I haven't regretted getting rid of!

Good point, I'm in a position where I can have a look and not take it if I don't feel it's the right move.

Cheers for the advice fellas. I think I need someone to tell me to go for it!

(subject to them liking me of course)

Exactly. It's a gamble and I'd be significantly better off if I got the job and they kept the account. Although I'm in no financial difficulty at the moment, my low wage means I can't buy a house, get married, go on nice holidays etc that I'd like to.

I thought it was awful, predictable rubbish.

I tried add/remove and that takes you straight to the built in uninstaller.

If I'm ever rid of AVG I'll have a look at Avast then!

The add-ons on the original PC version were great. A whole new island, extra vehicles and weapons took days to download over dial up though!

    bikemonkey

Does it still keep the free roaming feel of the original?

    Absolutely.

Huge islands free to explore. Commandeer civilian and enemy vehicles. You can choose how you go about completing the objectives – divide your team and flank? Gung-ho assault? Sneaky-sneaky? Engage at a distance?

I've got the PS3 version. It seems to work fine. I remember playing the original OFP on the PC and having to learn what all the different buttons were, but that's much easier on the PS3. I imagine aiming would be easier though as I find it difficult to fine-adjust the sights.

I emailed Silverfish and asked this – it will void your warranty, and they say it ruins the sharp handling. Maybe Talas or U-turn Revs so you can wind it down?

I've got Float RLCs and it's a far more capable bike than you'd think given the travel.

"I am wisest because I know I know nothing. Also, I can smell bullsh1t"

Half of that is Socrates, half of it is me. I'll leave you to work out which is which.

I agree my quote was indeed a sweeping generalisation and that a fair few Oxbridge graduates function normally and many even excel. There seems to be a larger proportion than from other establishments who believe the world owes them a living though.

I feel obliged to level the balance slightly.

I'm young and graduated in 2005 with a non-vocational degree from a 'proper' uni. I'm currently poorly paid for a graduate but am aware that I'm learning my trade and (slowly) working my way up the ladder. I am not a know-it-all but neither am I afraid to ask "have you thought about doing it this way?". My friends are similar and none of us are like the person who wrote the original article.

It seems that Oxbridge produces people who are, and always have, excelled in academia and are used to being good at things first time. They don't produce people well fitted for the world of actual work.

I realised I'd done this by accident. I can't compare this to how they are the right way round, as I'm too lazy to change them.

They don't ride badly though if that's any help

I like Spirited Away (especially the soot). Howl's Moving Castle was great too.

    Argos did this:

Not cheap, and not particularly hard wearing. I think they've remedied this now though and have tailored their process to mountain bikes. Looks top-notch until you chip it.

I loved Operation Flashpoint on the PC (may have to re-install it). Really looking forward to OFP2.

when one-on-one with the keeper, change direction at the last second and use finesse shot.

Set your team up to be very attacking so you always have people in the box. A hard shot close to the keeper will usually have him parry it back out where one of you players following in can tap it in.

Just before you shoot, check to see if there's a better pass on so someone else can just roll it in.

you 'forgot' about a dentist appointment?

I currently work in quite a friendly place where we all try to manage holidays etc to avoid disruption where possible. I could take the day off and be a bit cagey when they ask, but this would be out of character, a little odd for where I work, and I may not get the job and have to stay.

Think I may call in sick with the squits, as I can't do a poorly voice.

quite liked the violin cover of 'Nothing else matters' as well

How come they get something that good and different and we just get screeching tarts and second-rate dancers?

There are so many good geared frames out there, why bother making a half-arsed one?

why could his new best mate the eagle not have then flown him and the troublesome ring straight to the top of mount doom and dropped the fekker straight in there

I thought that too! Legolas on the back of that eagle wouldn't even have to be than close, he could attach the ring to an arrow and do it from half a mile away.

Do you reckon I thought about this a bit too much?

Maybe they did a service – checked and adjusted all parts, lubricated where necessary, trued wheels and replaced brake pads?

Having worked in a bike shop, I know that a mechanic's till skills can sometimes be worse than their 'explaining-what-they've-done-to-the-bike' skills.

Still, sounds a bit steep and should be explained properly. Also, this might be wrong and she may well have been done.

But unless they change it when it's re-introduced, no stamp duty under £175,000?

    Thanks for the above chaps!
