Yes, I’ve come across this – I went to tow a Peugeot (same design of towing eye) back to the dealer and there was no thread.
I’m always surprised that French manufacturers don’t take more care with the towing eye design – it is the most regularly used component on the car after all…bikemike1968Free MemberAwful things, like many Vauxhalls you get the impression that the designers got to lunchtime, said “**** it, that’ll do” and went to the pub. In my experience they are pretty unreliable as well – I’ve towed three back to main dealers with totally fubared engines now, all had fsh and less than 20k on the clock.
bikemike1968Free MemberWe have this argument about the a/c (climate control) in the car.
When it’s cold she cranks the temp up to 28 degrees because “it’ll warm up quicker”. After 10 minutes she’ll be moaning that it’s too hot and will turn it down to 15 so that it “cools down faster”.
And so the cycle continues…
I have tried explaining how climate control works but it falls on deaf ears.bikemike1968Free MemberIn the post today I got my National Trust cards and my John Lewis account bill.
Beat that!bikemike1968Free MemberNot a Clio is it?
They often leak around the aerial and the water runs further back so you think that it’s the sunroof.bikemike1968Free Membermrsfry – Member
My cat knocked over my tea cup
I’m singleJust the one cat?
bikemike1968Free MemberI answered all of the questions honestly and it came up that I am an introspective, dreaming artist! Which couldn’t be further from the truth. Apart from deducing that I dislike social functions (which is an understatement – I’d rather pull my fingernails off than go to a works “do”) I didn’t recognise any of my supposed “traits “.
Clearly I’m a very complex character…bikemike1968Free MemberI’ve always been hopeless at remembering faces and this test proves it – 6/14.
My short term memory is appalling as well, I wonder if the two are linked?bikemike1968Free MemberMy mother in law is unfortunately the yammering type.
Favourite topic (especially over dinner) is all her latest medical issues – the lower digestive tract being explained in great detail.
Then she moves onto all her friends medical problems.
And finally an exhaustive list of everyone in the village who has died in the last year, and what of.
I can’t wait…bikemike1968Free MemberAh, but then you’ll just get some greasy oik from the local garage. Or you could pay a little more and get a highly trained professional like me 😆
bikemike1968Free Member£30 will buy you a years AA cover. As many jump starts as you need and it’ll be done properly.
Plus it keeps me in a job 😀bikemike1968Free MemberTurns out something had wiped the immobiliser chips in the keys from the car
Ah yes, connect jump leads up to a Honda with the keys in the ignition. Wipes the immobiliser every time and quite pricey to fix. I suspect someone will have got a rocket for that one…
bikemike1968Free Memberthere are plenty of observers who think Cameron is going relatively easy on him
I think this is true. The Tories would love Corbyn to stagger on for as long as possible, slowly pulling the Labour party apart.
Then would come a protracted and messy leadership election, by which time the next general election would be upon us, with Labour in no state to effectively campaign.
If Corbyn survives until Christmas I can see the press wolves being called off him for a while, then go in with vengeance in about a years time.bikemike1968Free Member[/quote]Im anticipating similar joys, having just acquired a 2005 Renault Megane Scenic 1.5DCI ….
You’ve done WHAT??????
bikemike1968Free Membermrsfry – Member
Sorry. What’s your budgetIt’ll be a Christmas present so I don’t want second hand. On the other hand he is ten, and like most ten year olds he is capable of losing or breaking anything so I don’t want to spend a fortune.
I was hoping somewhere between £50-£100 would get me a good quality, reasonably tough one.bikemike1968Free MemberVery nice.
I wasn’t looking to spend quite that much though…bikemike1968Free MemberOnce sealant is used, I’m assuming if the puncture is repairable you can either leave the stuff in or remove the bulk of it? Or even just run on with the sealant plugging the hole like with tubeless MTB tyres
Unfortunately, this isn’t the case.
The latex type sealant supplied renders the tyre unrepairable, kwikfit etc won’t even try as they say it damages the interior surface of the tyre. So if you get a small hole in the centre of the tread that would otherwise be perfectly repairable don’t stick the goo in, you’ll write off the tyre. Call the AA instead.
“Slime” is better as it is waterbased and can be washed out of the tyre allowing it to be repaired, but none of the sealants are much good, they only seal pretty small holes.
Plug kits will repair larger holes than sealants, but need a bit of practice to get them to work.
Nothing beats a spare though, no sealant or plug kit will help if you damage the sidewall clipping a kerb or hitting a pothole.bikemike1968Free MemberMouth ulcers.
Yes, seriously – mouth ulcers.
They change my mood completely. I’m generally a fairly laid back, happy-go-lucky kind of chap but a couple of mouth ulcers turn me into the most irritable, miserable b**tard ever.
I’ve had plenty of proper injuries and illnesses over the years and kept smiling but mouth ulcers – argh!bikemike1968Free MemberWhen your model of Civic came out I went out to loads of unexplained flat battery breakdowns (only the diesel, petrol ones were fine).
Just like yours the battery would charge ok, Alternator working and no drain from the battery when locked up.
Honda weren’t keen to admit there was a problem, but were replacing engine wiring looms “as a precaution”. It would be worth your while asking if this has been done on yours.bikemike1968Free MemberThe book is superb, probably the best I have read.
The film? It’s OK. I’d probably have liked it more if I hadn’t read the book first.bikemike1968Free Member@jambalaya – I’ve sent you the number.
@burko73 – You haven’t got an email address in your profile so I can’t contact you. I don’t want to put the guys number on here as the spambots will pick it up and he’ll get spammed to death! Let me know your email and I’ll send you the details.
bikemike1968Free MemberAny decent automotive locksmith will do it, and it’ll be less expensive than going to the main dealer. If you are in Southampton I can recommend an excellent local chap but every city will have someone similar.
Don’t expect it to be cheap though – as well as cutting the metal mechanical part of the key you’ll need to have the transponder programmed to the ecu, and the central locking synchronised. All this requires specialist equipment and is therefore expensive.
bikemike1968Free MemberMaybe have a play on the S4 before committing. I had one and absolutely hated it.
^^^this^^^ I had an S4 and hated mine as well. The Samsung touchwiz interface is appalling, it has loads of bloatware you can’t uninstall and the battery life is terrible – I ended up buying a bulky case with a battery in it just to make it though the day.
I’ve now got a Sony Xperia – the battery lasts a day and a half of heavy use with ease, it is waterproof and Sony’s version of Android is a lot less intrusive.
Recommended.bikemike1968Free MemberYou’re both right.
A H4 bulb has two filaments, usually both 55 watt.
When you turn on main beam the dipped filament goes off and the main beam filament comes on – this is in a different position so the beam pattern changes, but the actual amount of light stays the same.bikemike1968Free MemberDefinitely a con – the pay is far too high.
Mrs Bikemike works in the mystery shopping industry and the checkers (i.e. the people who go into shops) get paid a pittance.
Quite often they are paid only a pound or two per check, or nothing at all if it is a fast food check (but you get to eat the “food”).
£200 for one visit – fantasy I’m afraid.bikemike1968Free MemberYou’ll only get around 20mpg in a fully loaded Luton van, maybe up to 25 if you drive like a vicar but low teens if you try to cruise at 90…
So around 20 gallons of diesel which is about £100 at the moment.bikemike1968Free Memberjohnnystorm
I’ve just moved to an Xperia Z2 from a OnePlus OneCheeky question, but do you fancy selling me your old Oneplus One?
bikemike1968Free MemberI’m after a big cheap TV for the garage, I will mainly be watching streamed movies
Uh huh, I’m guessing that you’ll be wanting one with a wipe clean screen then…
bikemike1968Free MemberWould you like me to list the important things that the undertray does on a modern car?
I’m sure that the manufacturers could give you a great list of the benefits they provide in managing the airflow under the vehicle and in the engine bay.
However, they completely negate this by making them out of the cheapest plastic they can find and attaching them with tuppence fasteners.
This ensures that most are missing by the time the car gets to five years old.bikemike1968Free MemberDon’t bother.
They do very little on most cars and fall off for fun.
The genuine parts are made of cheap, nasty plastic with cheap, nasty fixings (which is why you see so many flapping in the breeze, especially on VW’s), I can’t imagine eBay copies are going to be of better quality.bikemike1968Free Memberso I make sure she’s got a warm cup of soup inside her before she goes home.
Is that a euphemism?
bikemike1968Free MemberMy nine year old eats considerably more than I do.
He is very competitive in three different sports and hasn’t an ounce of fat on him.
Breakfast is three weetabix and two thick slices of toast. He eats a cooked lunch and dinner and then supper after his evening training.
In short, he eats us out of house and home.
I would imagine an active sixteen year old would be even worse.bikemike1968Free MemberIt’s knackered.
Volts mean very little when checking batteries, it’s the Amps that are important.
Get yourself down to a trade supplier (Gfs, eurocarparts etc), it’s easy enough to fit yourself.bikemike1968Free MemberA bit like this?
Effective – yes
Pretty – no.I think I prefer Bols design more at the moment, although I’m still open to ideas.
bikemike1968Free Member@ Bol – that’s the sort of thing I am looking to build.
Is the main chassis made of wood?
I like the fork arrangement at the back, how did you stop them from twisting?
Loving the recycled sledge!
Thanks for the insiration,
Mikebikemike1968Free Member“Stinking Bishop” is very well named. When I worked for Waitrose (yes, I know…) we used to open it outside at 6 am. It was just about safe to put it on display for opening at 8.30.
It actually tastes quite nice, if you can get past the smell.
bikemike1968Free MemberWe had a similar dilemma – weather to private or stay in state school.
Our reasons were different though – the state primary was failing with terrible discipline and poor educational standards. I started a thread about it here
In the end we took the plunge and moved him to the private school. He has made new friends very quickly at the new school and as he still plays for the village football team and goes to the local cub pack he still see’s his old friends as well.
Educationally it is a different world – with only twelve in the class the teachers set the work at the right level.
Go to the school and have a good look round, you’ll soon get the feeling if it is right or wrong for your child.bikemike1968Free MemberGet your big booster pack, put the positive clip onto the battery positive terminal and instead of putting the earth clip on the battery negative clip it onto the engine instead – if it starts you have got a bad earth. Quick and easy way to test.
