Cheeky trails? Oh yes! As long as its a public right of way, its fair game. However, the phrase “don’t be a dick” has never been more true.
I’ve got miles and miles of decent footpaths on the IOW, plenty of bridleways too and yes I will ride them all!
Anyone whos ridden the coastal path between Shanklin and Ventnor will have encountered the Luccombe Loon. He loves it. He’s even gone to the trouble of putting extra kissing gates and concrete steps to make you stop. If thos fail then he pretends to call the police and tells you they will confiscate your bike and sell it on the mainland. I’ve dedicated a couple of strava segments to him.
I usually debate with him for a bit for sport and then tell him that i’m heading to Ventnor, so could the police meet me there as it’ll be easier for them too.
    They never appear.

How much is a 12 YO CRV worth?

Not normal, but I’m struggling to understand how paint removal would allow water into the BB as a result.

I do. I haven’t used my proper one in a year as its borked.

I know, it was my way of reminding you to buy my K50!!

Unless you’re planning on riding the bike exclusively on the road downhill, I wouldn’t be concerned at all. In those conditions it is well below sub optimal.

Sounds like you’re having a tough time of it.
Try and look at the positives.
You’re not working, so you can be with your son more whilst he’s getting treatment etc. I’d hate to be going to work if my son was ill.
You’re no longer doing a job you don’t like.
    You can ride more.
    Its almost spring.

What about the silent clutch hub and the stupid headset question?

I think the bigger issue which needs addressing first is the appalling death toll on our roads daily.
Whilst licencing and taxing cyclists may fulfill a knee jerk reaction, are you really telling me that chavs wheelying up the high streets and goign to sign up for this? Its similar to gun and knife possesion, those that actually register and play along aren’t the problem in the first place.
All this does is bow to the anti cycling rhetoric on social media and it will achieve the square root of FA.

It might be worth getting the house re-valued if you’ve had work done. This may improve the loan to value ratio of the mortgage.

    Plenty of sound advice.
A couple of bits to think about.
Keep a diary of pain and how you are feeling. Photos on any injuries, bruises etc.
Photos of the accident site and annotated diagrams of what happened etc.
Write down what happened whilst its still fresh in your mind.
Get your bike looked at by a decent bike shop. Get them to check the frame, wheels, the lot.
List damage to any clothes, shoes and gear you were wearing at the time. Consider replacing your helmet, even if it appears unmarked.
Try and contact the witnesses and get statements off them, don’t assume the police have done this.
The driver may well have been upset and shaken up at the time, but they can turn into lying SOBs when they realise how much it could cost them to replace your bike and kit etc.

Hopefully it’ll be fine and you’ll be reimbursed for any damaged items.
Rest up and I hope you’re feeling better soon.

Test ride each bike with the correct sized frame for you. Figures etc are meaningless and tbh should only ever be used as a rough guide only.

The other option for me would be Thameslink from St Pancras Intl to Blackfriars (and vice versa), get off at the SOUTH end of Blackfriars and walk to Waterloo. 15 mins walk tops.

I rarely use more the the 4 inner (biggest) sprockets in the granny ring for this exact reason), the chain angle is too much and it usually catches the front mech first.
Same for the big ring, I never go more than halfway up the block.

I used to have a nice t shirt stating “some people won’t take F** You for an answer” by a band called Entombed. Well nice it was, came back from one of their gigs (Southsea Wedgewood rooms I think) with it in tatters from a rather robust session in the pit.
    Aah happy days!

    Sorry for not replying sooner.
I’d take that up with your provider, as the checker indicates you should be getting better than that. (35-54.9Mbps down). The IP Profile relates to the current profile setting that the connection is currently on and your speeds are in the ballpark for that. However, the profiles can be changed by the network, so it might be worth contacting them and asking if they can force the connection to be re-profiled.

Some people clearly dont understand the intended function of the preload cap…
You wouldn’t expect your headset top cap to hold your stem on would you?

TBH I wouldn’t generally use a cordless drill for masonry type stuff, I’ve got a decent corded Bosch drill for that sort of work.

Been after a decent cordless drill for ages, this should fit the bill nicely. Ta for the PSA.

The preload bolt is not there to hold the cranks on, its there to very gently take up the slack between the cranks. Once you’ve done up the two pinch bolds, the preload cap serves no purpose.

If you’ve goosed the splines in the crank arm then its too late, aluminium foil might work as a temp fix. An alloy preload cap might help keep the crankarm on, but you’ll probably end up killing the BB instead by over tightening it.
    Replacement crankarm time.

I’m impressed you can juggle with such odd shaped balls.

Float Fluid is just for lubricating the air chamber on Fox forks and shocks. Isn’t it? I wouldn’t use it to clean or lube the stanchions or air shaft, its too think and sticky.
I tend to use Finish Line Red as it dries without leaving a sticky residue.

Guilt and regrets are two of the most destructive emotions you can have.
Yes I realise that you’ll be missing out on a proper family holiday, but there will be other opportunties. Once your dad is gone, thats it.

I don’t understand any of this stuff.
But then I don’t need to.
I pity my son though when he’s older. He’ll need a slide rule just to be able to work out his options.

Ok, put your phone number into the first box in the link below:-
    https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/
Look at the down stream and upstream results for “VDSL Range A (Clean)”
This will tell you the theortical max speeds your line will support.
    Next
    Go to
    http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/
    and run a speed test.
This should give you a clear indication of the ACTUAL speeds you are getting at that moment.
You should run this test with your computer connected via an ethernet cable and the wireless on the router turned off. Also, if you can disable any anti-virus and firewalls on your PC temporarily so as to avoid getting any innaccurate results. MAKE SURE YOU TURN THEM BACK ON AFTERWARDS!
Post the results up here if you want.
NB The results from the 2nd test will normally be a couple of Mbps lower than the results from the 1st checker.

A stainless bolt will work just as well and less likely to gall than Ti. Plus Ti bolts are just pointless IMO.
Take a wazz before you ride and you’ll have saved more weight.

I’ve used a number over the years and so far my Hope Stainless BB is winning. Shimano ones are pretty good these days, the key is not overtightening the preload, that kills them pretty rapidly.
Luckily enough I got a brand new Hope BB for £30 from a local for sale page at the weekend.

Yes, driving on the pavement is crap driving.
I refuse to do it. I’ve had Land Rover Discos come at me after forcing their way past oncoming traffic (parked cars on the opposite side from me) expecting me to bump up the pavement so they can get past. I just shrugged my shoulders, applied the handbrake and waited for them to sort their shit out. I took them a while!
I see it on the roads all the time, usually because someone can’t wait.

Say for arguments sake there is NFF on return to the supplier. What then?
Years ago my dad purchased a B&O colour TV. Great set, worked well, then after a few months, it would spaz out and go to standby. Often the picture would just go like there was no signal and it would pop onto standby. Sometimes it would be ok for weeks. He took it back to B&O dealer who sent it away and NFF. It never really got sorted and actually spent one christmas in the Gloucester head office on extended test, returned NFF. Eventually he tired of it and because the warranty had expired he gave up and bought a Sony instead, no issues.
We had a suspicion that the mains supply might have had periods where it was “dirty” and the TV was reacting to it.
Is it possible to swap out the suspected device for an alternative to see if the problem goes away?

    Definetley get the police involved
    Were there any witnesses?
Document everything whilst its still fresh in your mind. Keep a pain diary.
Go and see your GP and photograph bruises, cuts etc.
Get your bike assesed by a reputable bike shop.
List damage to clothing, shoes, helmet etc etc.
Go back and take photographs of the scene in daylight.
Were you in a well lit area i.e streetlights or an unlit road?
Check your home insurance policy and see if you have legal cover.
    Hope you heal quickly.

I completely understand the bans relating to nuts and sesame seeds at schools. To lose a child because of something that is entirely avoidable would be tragic.

One thing that troubles me, is where do these alergies come from? When I was at school I don’t remember anyone having alergies to nuts etc. Does this stem from from the obsession of everything being sterile and hygenically clean, meaning that kids aren’t exposed to certain bacteria etc, so their immune systems aren’t fully developed?

DHL are the only one I seem to ever have issues with. I quite often order stuff from Euro Car Parts and their courier is DHL.
I’ve had two order requrie 2-4 delivery attempts before they actually manage to catch me when Im in.
Except that I’ve actually had the stuff sent to the office and Im there at the time. I suspect they cant park in the layby at the office and rather than try again or park round the courner they just claim that I was out.
    Bunch of arse!

He’s not particularly materialistic in respect of camping kit, he’s only 12, but it was advised by his leader that a better tent would serve him better than the current one. Its not my son who’s driving the kit aquisition, its his leader. I know he’ll look after his kit well, because he always does. AFAIK his troop prefer to have the scouts supply their own tents and kit.

Thanks for the pointers. I presume flysheet refers to the outer shell of the tent?

Im sure the vaude is a very nice tent but its about £150 over budget!
