Having removed a cactus from my bed whilst drunk (someone’s idea of a joke) I can tell you, they are particularly unpleasant if the barbs are left in for any length of time (a couple of days in my case due to circumstances). So the cyclist has my sympathies.
bigyinnFree MemberNo need to buy all these bullshit marketing products. Just a bit of fairy liquid should do the trick.
bigyinnFree MemberWouldn’t you just physically transfer the plates from the old car to the new car once the reg transfer had been completed?
bigyinnFree MemberCCA value is much more important. As long as the battery meets or exceeds the manufacturers minimum requirements you should be fine.
We had a long running issue with our Scenic draining the battery (it rarely starts first time and can take 3 or 4 goes, some electronic foible) and after two attempts it wouldn’t have enough “oomph” to start.
Battery in the car was a 53Ah and I replaced it with a 70Ah. Never had the problem since (ok it still doesn’t start first time, but it will have enough oomph to get it started eventually). The min spec was supposed to be 60Ah, hence the problem.bigyinnFree MemberThe comments upthread about Barclays and Egg have annoyed me. I contacted them a couple of years ago regarding Egg and they said they had no record of my account with Egg.
Contacted them again mid August last year before the deadline and they almost sneered at me saying, as we told you when you asked 2 years ago we have no details of an Egg card in your name. THEN they tel me if it was cleared before 2011 (it was) those accounts were held by Citi Bank. Obviosuly, because the deadline had passed I couldn’t then get in touch with Citi Bank. Why didn’t they tell me two years ago when I originally asked?
Still Lloyds were great and gave me back £7.2k, TA!bigyinnFree MemberLast time I got a new car, I waited for the stuff already in the car to run out, then ran a litre of water through it to flush it out before filling up with the Halford Berry screen wash.
Have used Rain X in the past and there was a level of smearing after wiping before the screen was crystal clear again, ok during the day, but a little distracting at night. Ok for the side windows though.bigyinnFree MemberThere are some nice tats out there i suppose, not my cup of tea, but there you go.
Someone I know has tears in the corner of one eye, “candy” above one eyebrow and stars up her neck.
Classy as ***k.bigyinnFree MemberA bit more heat??
Have you tried tightening it slightly first? That often helps break any corrosion that stops things moving.bigyinnFree MemberI don’t get that people still want to use film, I also get the feeling that they do it to be “different” rather than having any real merit in using film.
Digital cameras have done to film what MP3s have done to LPs.
The only positives I can see from using a film camera is it forces you to consider your image a little more, because your film is limited and you can’t see the end result until its been developed. If you’ve screwed it up, that moment is gone. Also film cameras generally have less automatic exposure choices, so they help you learn and understand exposure better.
I still miss using my Pentax Super A…. but my Pentax KP is so much better to use.bigyinnFree MemberBook of Mormon all booked and a hotel in Bayswater (close, not!) for next week. She was well chuffed on christmas day. Managed to draw it out by giving her the travel tickets first, then the hotel ticket. About an hour later I gave her the show tickets!
Looking ofrward to have some “just the two of us” time. Love my son to bits, but I feel we don’t have enough time of our own, so hopefully this will be just the ticket.
Arrive in London lunchtime Tues and leave Wed after 4, so plenty of time for doing stuff.bigyinnFree MemberNot really Kryton, I only live about 100 miles away, regular visitor to the smoke.
Midweek in Jan it wont be as busy with people, compared to after easter, for example.Whilst I’m tempted to gamble on getting tickets before the show, I really want to be a bit more organised than my usual play it by ear plans. Its a special treat for the OH so I want it to be hassle and stress free.
Les Miz or Book of Mormom might be the choice. I know she enjoyed the Les Miserables TV series from earlier in the year.bigyinnFree MemberThanks for all the suggestions.
Im going for a midweek show, based on the logic that it’ll be cheaper, better seats available and London wont be so busy.bigyinnFree MemberWhy is your index toe doing its best to get as far a away from your big toe as possible?
bigyinnFree MemberI once threw a pint glass out of a first floor window, which then bounced when it hit the ground. I was amazed!
bigyinnFree MemberI’d rather drive in the middle of the road than permanently **** my engine thanks. Although if there was oncoming traffic, I’d either slow down or stop if necessary.
bigyinnFree MemberLittle update. Car was lovely so I bought it. Facelift Manual with a very clean interior and exterior. Full leather, climate control, electric seats. Underneath at the back a little cruddy, but I’ll deal with that in the spring.
Needs a few minor bits doing. The front discs and pads will see me through the winter. Found a split intake hose before the MAF, so have already replaced that with a brand new one.
Cleaned the projector headlight internal lenses as they were a bit murky.
Expansion tank cap has got the pressure cap stuck in, new cap wil sort that once I get the old bit out.
Tyres are all the same type, but budget range, so I’ll upgrade them in due course.
Very pleased with it. Got 40 mpg on the drive back, its sitting about 32mpg on local pottering.bigyinnFree MemberOff to look at a V50 2.0 litre petrol tomorrow in Peterborough.
2008 full Volvo service history, 114k miles for £3.3k, so hoping to haggle them down to £3k or less.bigyinnFree MemberThe Exeo is a bargain, no arguement.
BUT
I
DONT
WANT
A
DIESEL!bigyinnFree MemberAfter lots of reading and searching, I’ve narrowed my choices down further. Both petrols because of the limited annual mileage and the short nature of the majority of journeys mean diesels don’t make a lot of sense financially and they’re not going to like plodding around the town.
So the choices are:-
Skoda Octavia Estate 1.8T Petrol
Volvo V50 2.0l Petrol
I’ve found a couple of examples that look good and have a decent history, not to mention fully specc’d out.
Just waiting for the cheque to pop through the letterbox is killing me!bigyinnFree MemberI’ve had Mazdas before, but a 6 is just a little bit TOO big for what I need.
bigyinnFree MemberA4s are on the list, so that should include Exeo’s too. From what I can see they’re very well spec’d. Whether I can find a petrol one in budget is another matter….
bigyinnFree MemberSaabs are an outside possibility.
Vauxhalls, just no.
A Mondeo, whilst nice, is just a bit bigger than we need / want.
Thinking about it, I’m leaning more towards petrol than diesel. For the age of cars I’m looking at, most diesels will have DPFs fitted, not a problem per-se, BUT, our car doesn’t do many long journeys and most of the use is short trips (15 miles or less) and we have NO motorways here, so getting a DPF regen cycle is going to be a PITA. Diesels don’t like short trips and their economy isn’t going to save a lot given our annual mileage is only about 6k.bigyinnFree MemberFingers crossed you get something johndoh.
Sadly a new bike is out of the question, a second hand one may be an option. Im still riding 26″ wheels at present, so need to update at some point.
A newer car to purge the Renault POS from my life and a family holiday are the two main priorites, plus I need to finish off the electrics on the shed and replace 6 fence panels.bigyinnFree MemberInteresting, the V50 2.0 D is the one i’m considering. Seems to be plenty about.
How is the boot space for bike carrying duties?bigyinnFree MemberFocus Estate added to the list.
Dont want an MPV again, so that rules out the Mazda 5.bigyinnFree MemberBarclays came back first to say that nope.
Lloyds came next with a nope and a maybe.
Lloyds gave my final decision yesterday, £7247!!! GET IN!bigyinnFree Member35 secs in, I’ve never seen so many fake punches. The only way you’d believe that was genuine was if you were sat at the back.

It’s craft ale, it will be strong.
Thats truly up there with bullshit sweeping statements like “he’s only being friendly” or “all Glaswegians are alkys”.

I’m confused. Is the answer Brexit?
The answer is NEVER Brexit.
bigyinnFree MemberStill waiting for my direct submissions made to both Lloyds and Barclays online on 16th August to be acknowledged.
I’m hoping they’re just very busy and I’ll get my refund within 8 weeks of the submissions (like they’re supposed to do).bigyinnFree MemberMy last 5 phones have been odd numbered versions of the Moto G series. Only the original Moto G died eventually (that was down to my OHs inanate phone killing ability). All the others are still going, the G3 was recently retired to family spare phone.
Im currently using a G7 which is great. It works, does what I want it to do. Looks ok and thats about it. For £190 on amazon its a bargain IMO.
If I had a choice I’d have gone for the G7Plus which has a marginally better chipset and a better camera.
I guess it ultimately depends on whether you want a nice looking phone shaped trinket or just a reliable smartphone.bigyinnFree MemberCant say I’ve had any issues with split outers tbh. The only time was down to some shitty jagwire cables & outers.
I tend to use SP41 outers with sealed ferrules and teflon coated shimano cables and I have zero issues. A lot of it is down to frame design and routing.bigyinnFree MemberBeing slightly more helpful, it may be a fungal infection.
Looks similar to something my other half had on her hand. Atheletes foot cream might sort it, but I’d recommend going to the docs and getting it looked at, rather than take the word of a random non-doctor on the internet.bigyinnFree MemberYou could pull the brake lever slightly to introduce some slight pressure to the system so that fluid would weep out rather than suck air in whilst you adjusted the banjo.
bigyinnFree MemberThats funny I was talking about you to Dave Munt on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday evenings ride. Good to see you’re still doing bikey stuff!
bigyinnFree MemberMy biggest concern would be the contract work. Is there actually anything in writing from them that they guarantee you xx hours of work a week? Given the FD seems like a c nut, I wouldn’t be trusting them on just their word.
bigyinnFree MemberMy stepson had “damp” on and internal wall (semi detached house, dividing wall between them).
It was recommended the wall be stripped back to the walls and treated, which he did. How would an internal dividing brick wall even be exposed to moisture from the other side?
It then transpired that because the previous owner suffered from hayfever they NEVER opened any windows in the house. I suspect the “damp” was merely a lack of air movement around the house, so condensation had nowhere to go.
The trouble I had trying to get the bathroom window open (practically stuck shut) suggests that it hadn’t been opened for a long time either.
If in doubt, I’d get a second opinion. It seems to be a bit of a scam IMO.bigyinnFree MemberSouthern run an hourly service from Olympia to Watford direct, or you can get the Overground to Willesden Junction and then change there for an Overground Watford train.
Soputhern is less frequent, but quicker and direct.
Overground much more frequent, but slower, plus it requires a platform change at Willesden (allow 5 minutes).
I’d suggest just purchasing a day return when you arrive at Olympian and then if southern is screwed up you can just get the overground instead. It may cost a bit more, but theres much more flexibility if it goes wrong.
