Totally unsure of the dims or loading on the shelf, but how about…
Cut shelf to fit alcove with a reasonable shadow gap.
Rebate a groove (say 3mm wide, 30mm deep) to sides and rear of shelf.
Drill, plug and screw in three positions (one per side (towards front edge) and one at centre of rear).
Grind off screw heads
Slide shelf on.
Voila.
If the masonry drill wandered a little and the shelf if on the wonk, take a second bite by redrilling a replacement a couple of mm verically and 20mm horizontally away from the wanderer. Refit.
Worried about it colapsing if it pulls off the rear screw? Compromise your minimalistic principles and use an L shaped cup hook for the rear.
Does this make sense?
bigyellowmarinFree MemberMy finger clicked your link, just as my brain shouted IT’S A TRAP.
I slammed the browser tab closed and gathered my thoughts.
Returned here to check the user name of the poster… Is it familiar? Is it a putin / kim jong / netanyahu [insert your thug of choice here] bot?
Ah, releif, it’s “cougar”… TWO!
Do i need one of those things a 13year old me had (optimisticly) bought for my tackle box such that i would be able to get a barbed hook out of a fish’s mouth when the moment arose?
bigyellowmarinFree MemberUnsure how to quote….
oceanskipperFull MemberBut after Thames water confirmed a leak on my supply pipe and me chasing them for an appointment to fix it I thought I’d answer it just in case…..regret is me
As an aside, if the leak is on your property ie over the boundary then..
Double check this has not changed in tbe past 5 years (im on a shared supply and seem to have a memory that southern water had changed their stance). And, before anyone asks, no, i did not paypal gift them £5 to ‘register my interest’ in the scheme!
bigyellowmarinFree MemberWCA.
You are an inspiration.
But having said that, i am sort of glad you guys have called it off due to the weather. I would have loved to have helped but the distance AND the weather was holding me back somewhat from jumping in early.
This has given me every reason to respond positively’next time’ you shout out.
bigyellowmarinFree Member… I got my mention in Tears for Fears’ Advice for the Young at Heart…
1bigyellowmarinFree Member@kayak23, mid morning experimental techno… So true
Rebel Dread, he has his place (BAD), and the radio, but yes, anyone who needs to continually say, “Yeah, they call me….” says so much about themselves.
Names in songs. Geez, i hope Danny Baker is getting paid for that! (remember him doing it 25 years back) .
Grimmy? Never listened to R1, but the ‘was he always that camp’ comment only reinforced my belief again that STW are my bothers from other mothers.
1bigyellowmarinFree MemberThanks stevehine, thanks cougar, really appreciate your replies.
Would i be correct to takeaway from this:
If the install meets all the parameters of the Category the result is pretty much guaranteed. Start abusing them and all bets are off.
Abuse could result in reduced performance (1Gb/s to 100kb/s to… ),
but the effect of the abuse is not linear, at some point the last extra meter will change it from a ‘far less than optimal but maybe ‘serviceable” to ‘plain broken’.
In a professional environment, it all comes down to risk appetite.
Not the risk of it not working, but the risk that lazy Shaun blames his lack of output on his spreadsheet taking too long to save, and everyone at his tribunal looking at you to answer “is it correct that his connection did not meet recognised international standards”.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberTrying to bring a morsel of humour to this frightening thread…
Is it too late to make a ‘user name checks out‘ claim on “nippy” from page 1?
Glad OP is riding again and our police are meeting expectations.
(punctuation is not my forte)
Glad our police are living up to
1bigyellowmarinFree MemberSimilar but different…
My field is 230 / 400V electrics, a colleague who looks after the IT side of things is currently doing his pieces that data cable runs in a newly finished building are too long. (10% less and it would be ok)
Being a sceptic, who has crunched on dozens of cat 5 connectors to cheap cabling to build a home network, i find out hard to believe that it matters (will Joe Schmo in the new building notice any difference when opening their word doc / tik tok video / etc).
Not saying it is not measurable, just not relevant in this case?
TLDR? Slippery (slithery) slope between audio and IT?
By the way fed up with slow Internet? Click [www.fishedin/sucker.com] to order an air purifier to speed up our home wifi.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberAgree.
About 20 years ago my dad asked,
What do you want me to do with that old bmx? Take it to the tip?
Yeah, guess so.
WTF was i thinking?
It was an absolute dream bike for me as a 14 year old in 84. Got it for £30 in 94. Chucked it in 04.
Go on, look up a torker 280x on ebay IN 24.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberPolls.
Yet to use it yet, but earlier this week, i had a message of “which of the following dates can people make for a bbq?”
Unsure how it has taken so long; i remember saying the world needed a quick simple app for this 20years back.
Sort of glad i was too busy with my kids at the time, as Zuckerberb, besos and musk dont seem any happier than me.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberI don’t know art, but i know what i like…
Wow, what a stylish picture.
Realistic : maybe not (?)
Stylistic : hell yeah!
bigyellowmarinFree MemberThis. Politicians do it a lot, saying the interviewer’s name often and unnecessarily. That is really annoying.
True. Especially true on question time and those political debates. Was it Milliband who popularised it? Received plaudits for his ‘engaging manor’?
Since then politions have not read the memo that the horse is well and truly dead and that they my cease with their flogging.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberI seem to remember it going into a lot of detail about how to do everything and had fantastic, exploded, engineering drawings to boot.
As if EVERY pedal, were all made in the same factory and would be exactly the same.
Written with a ‘make do and mend’ attitude… A proceedure for rotating and replacing the two black rubber grippy bits on ‘YOUR pedal’ comes to mind.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberIHN Speaks the truth; they do seem to shrink with time (more so since lockdown)!
1bigyellowmarinFree MemberBut more seriously.
A decent leather belt. One that you can remember where you bought it, long after the building has gone. Is, to me, a marvelous thing.
The oposite, a belt that looks ok, but turns out to be made of two micro layers of leater bonded to stuff, is exaclty that, the oposite.
Possibley my age, but i now buy belts from charity shops – let some other sucker soth the wheat from the chaff.
1bigyellowmarinFree MemberBeloved.
Once a day for a week
Once a week for a month
Once a month for a year
And once a year after that.
Act accordingly

I’m horrified by the sentiment expressed by so many forum members in this thread. The OP came here looking for some suitable gentle humour for someone that’s about to undergo a fairly significant life-changing surgery and will be wracked with worry and stress. You should have a good look at yourself and ask if it was you in that position would you appreciate the contents of this threadReeksy has a valid point. How would you feel i you were in their shoe?

bigyellowmarinFree MemberInterested to read the responses…
Modern high speed Internet must have its uses (wfh digi animation / gaming?), but i do wonder the same thing. I remember speaking with a techie years back and they were talking about office locations relative to data centres, latency for trading floors… But for domestic?
2bigyellowmarinFree MemberMy opinions…
Cleaning composite is much easier than wood
Not having to oil it is fantastic
Ours faded A LOT. We were told it would fade a bit, we bore this in mind and chose a dark colour (i thought the lighter colour would be too close a match for the walling) guess what? It now matches the wall!
It gets icy much more easily than wood
Ours suffers from linear expansion in the sun. The T blocks allow it to slide without buckling. But it is in a hering bone pattern and the centre joint now looks shocking. In retrospect i wish i had pinned the central ‘ends’ and let the expansion happen at the far end.
The supplier i went with only did 2.4 and 3.6m lengths, the former timber came in upto 5.2m, not a huge problem until it contrscts and every joint opens up.
But no more oiling!
bigyellowmarinFree MemberContractural obligations?
Search for van morrison’s ringworm.bigyellowmarinFree MemberUSBs… pretty sure all my USB-As have a USB symbol on the “up” side…
The some twit at Sennheiser decides, “Ah, poor little ‘down’ side. You deserve a badge too. Infact, that would be a great place for my logo, (a hifty bit of free advertising for… [another version of the product you already own])”.

bigyellowmarinFree MemberAnd this my freinds is why i read STW; good old fashioned ‘stupid banter’
the gold medal goes to…
Mother’s net is the likely silver i guess?
Bronze goes to?
Train hard, fight easy, people!
1bigyellowmarinFree MemberDouble post?
Ive had my better and worse times.
Currently, all is good.
A couple of years back, i could never have imagined being this happy.
Hang on in there.
Things DO get better.
Slighty off topic, but “Random Acts of Kindness” help me; yesterday i complimented a ‘girl’ (who i assume was with her mum) how fantastic her hair looked in the sun. ‘oh, thank you’, she said, ‘i did wash it this morming’. She took the genuine, but very light, comment in the spirit it was meant. I think i made her day. Knowing that, made mine.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberIf I had another person…
A couple of poles [insert east euro builder joke here] and a canvas sling (like a stretcher)
Or, a number of flexi-tubs instead of the material?
1bigyellowmarinFree Member£7.99? You was robbed.
I have been putting together a starter bike tool box for a friend’s son.
Passed an Aldi yesterday and remembered this PSA. Popped in to find two, both with very tatty boxes and no price ticket on the shelf.
A fella said he could take it to the till to price check it for me…
Four of your British pounds!
His colleague smelled a rat and told him to check with the manager. He did and it was genuine.
I felt properly rewarded for wanting to help my mate’s kid out.
Merry Christmas all.
1bigyellowmarinFree MemberNever heard of AT4?
Drop me a fax and I’ll send over the details.
1bigyellowmarinFree MemberHave scott stopped producing their AT4 already?
35 years, gone in a flash!
Yes, i accept i will be laughing on the other side of my face (if it still exists) when long term metal fatigue finally wins the day.
1bigyellowmarinFree MemberI don’t know chipps and i didn’t know pitch.
I do know though, that we leave very little behind us, other than the impressions we made on others and our surroundings.
Chipps, it seems that you were blessed to have known pitch.
And to those that are knew pitch, you’re twice blessed that chipps knew him and was willing to share this tribute.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberCould only be betered by that “ozzy man reviews” fella adding a commentry to it.
Sadly, it does seem like a parallel to the tories telling us the ‘NHS would be safe in their hands’ .
Year 2023 equates to around the 9m 30 to 10m 30 section by my mind. Listing badly, work to stabilise ahead of election, a bit more dithering, but the witing is on the wall.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberAnother ‘chapeau’ for tom’s contribution.

I wouldn’t… if it put even a fraction of a penny in their pocketLostprophets… feel a bit sorry for the rest of the band tbh.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberPhew!
(Feared this was another RIP thread and would be geeted with an image of a load of white metal wrapped round a tree). Not into cars as such, i got hooked into that thread / retro power channel as my first car was a white mkI.
I cannot fathom the effert expended on a 4-wheeled vehicle, but the engineering side of me admires their zero compromise attitude.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberAlthough I’m only up to the cuticle of my hallux in the world of projectors (sub £100 Vankyo)…you are welcome to my slither of experience…
I’m very pleased (VFM-wise) with the ‘throw’, the ‘brightness’ and the ability to ‘keystone correct’.
The only slight annoyance is the focal length (if that is the right term?). If much off perpendicular on a 150inch (3.8m ffs its 2021!) and the focus at either side of the screen is compromised to an extent. and possibly items costing multiples of my ‘toe in the water’ budget can overcome this, but still a bit of an unwanted suprise. It didn’t prevent my wife and son enjoying the In-ger-land game outside on Sunday though. Possibly more a problem for my age Vs eysight that theirs! (lol)bigyellowmarinFree MemberUnconscious and subconscious
Got me thinking ;)
What about unconcious bias?
Bias based on zero conciousness? Surley not a bias then?
Subconscious bias is probably what we mean.Less /fewer
From memory, such signs started off a ‘1 basket(full) or less’. ’12 items or less’ was an attempt to prevent the arguements that came about from shopper A not being able to take their trolley with a single bulky / heavy item through the same check out as shopper B who had a hand badket stacked full of dozens of small individual items. A half arsed solution: they should have supplemented it with ‘(rule 1 applies)’I could care less
Probably means
‘I could care less… But i don’t.’
The inferance being, you know me so well, surely i do not need to finish this sentence.bigyellowmarinFree MemberI can confirm that Ethel commenced employment here in jan ’20, and i will be glad to see her back.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberOn a (sort of) related note.
I have been using strong bleach to clean ‘black spot’ off Indian sandstone, i considered adding something to stop it spreading / keep it where it needed to be. Flour? Surely it is just ground up wheat seeds?
With third hand experience of ‘one product good, two products better’ fail, i thought it best to check.
Google says… Ut-ah. Produces some sort of chlorine gas apparantly. Probably ok outside, but why risk it.bigyellowmarinFree MemberHaving checked ‘urban dictioary’. I was amazed that “fish supper” is NOT a euphemism.
bigyellowmarinFree MemberUnable to open pic, but borrowing a technique I have seen used on siezed nuts, I would suggest a rapid ‘tapping’ as opposed to susstained brute force.
Do you have an impact driver? Would the pole fit the chuck? Or possibley an sds drill with a rotary stop feature?
Just don’t lose sight of the goal.
Ultimately, if it i seized it is unlikely to prevent you from painting it, if it becomes bent / broken (but separate) it will be a hollow victory. (learnt from experience).
