I have got one decent size global chopping knife and use a couple of smaller victorinox kitchen knife that are sub £10 each and are brilliant.

Is it just good form to let Cavendish defend it or would one of the other GB team actually stand a better chance of winning it.

To start with its just practice to get used to reading the waves and positioning your self well. If you are trying to catch waves out of your depth you will need some small stuby flippers so you can get enough speed. Just keep going and worry more about enjoying it. It will click and it is brilliant fun.

Out of interest do large adults have more blood in their bodies than small people I presume they do.. I am 6’4″ and about 15 stone and have never noticed any affect after giving blood. I have always followed the advice and avoided ridding on the same day as donating.

Also check the caliper is done up tightly as mine had come loose and I thought the fork bushes must need replacing.

Thanks for the advice, I have ordered a new plastic bolt and locking tab will clean it all up and assemble correctly and will have to see if it will stay put or if I have just wrecked a 3 week old crank set. LH crank arms are pretty much the same price as a full Deore crank set so guess I might as well bight the bullet and get the whole lot if it does turn out I have damaged the splines.

It was my first time as well only did the short route as getting back upto fittness. Had an amazing day brilliant route and also marshalls / staff all invovled were so friendly.

Did have some mechanical issues so inquired about getting a lift back from the tea stop and the support vehicle was a smart car with a rack on the back which just about sums up the whole event I thought.

Will be their again next year either for a quicker short time or maybe a long route if I can meet the cut off time.

My understanding was wrong as I think a couple of others are that the end cap is just a dirt stopper come pre load device. The nice mechanics at the event all agreed that the splines are slightly tapered so without the crank arm fixing bolt the 2 x 5mm allen key bolts can’t hold the crank on. I did make it the end of the event just using the 5mm bolts but if you put even a small amount of lateral force onto the pedal the crank starts to move off.

I don’t live near a good bike shop so was hoping to order a new locking tab online but I still can’t find a name or part number that gives a search result, the closest I have come is a stopper plate.

My first time as well but deffinetly will be doing the 25 mile route. Still trying to get properly fit after a long time off the bike with small children. Really looking forward to it just hope its not as wet this week as the MET office predict.

I will be happy with a finish considering how unfit I was 3 months ago.

I wouldn’t trust myself with SPD’s managed to fall off infront of a packed car park at Woodbury common last week hadn’t done the rear quick release up tight enough tried a fancy sprint and flick manouver and ended up over the handle bars as the rear wheel locked solid with a dent in ego and a bruised knee and elbow.

Thanks for the advice but none of the above suggestions have worked.

I will try to remove the seat tonight and see if I can get something in to turn the child lock off, unfortunately the VW child lock is a quarter turn rather than the old style lever you only had to flick.

    Any other advice greatly received.

We used to go all the time to Surf at Hells mouth from Manchester.

Their are 2 campsites relatively close to the beach (still need a little drive if you are carrying anything). Small one next to the Sun Inn more sheltered if it gets windy and one past the beack on the same road that is much bigger with more space for kids to run etc.

We used to really like Abersoch but I guess in August it will be Bently and RangeRover central, still a nice place and got a couple of good sandwich places.

The Sun Inn is a nice pub but does get incredible busy at feeding time.

Why do you need easy access to the M5 presumable to travel up the M5 on a regualr basis. I travel up the M5 with work most weeks but if I had to do it daily I would want to live closer to Bristol than Exeter.

cynic-al surely now that I have stripped out the thread their is no way the cranks can be seated correctly onto the square taper bottom bracket even if they can be gotten off.

Shurely the bearings should be a press fit into the cups once installed.

Stainless Steel is very hard and is difficult to cut. You will really struggle to cut 2 – 3mm stainless with a jigsaw. Think Stevewhyte has it right even drilling quite small holes in stainless is difficult. You will also generate quite a bit of heat that may discolour the stainless.

Davewalsh if adventurer doesn’t take you up on the offer of the shims I would love them, I have also just bought an inbred and need to convert my 31.8 front mech. My email is in my profile.

Thanks for the help Travis, I was expecting far more coments about on-ones poor quality paint so it doesn’t mater which colour you buy.

I would say misumi is the cheapest for that kind of stuff. Order the catalogues online for free as the website is very confusing without them. It takes about 10 days for stuff from them as it all comes from Japan.

I have got the Yamaha CRX550 in silver. I got it as a decent Kitchen stereo paired up with Wharefdale Diamond 9.0 speakers which are only small but suits its location well. I really love the stereo its great, the sound is good and build quality is pretty good.

If connected to an older ipod only the controls and screen on the stereo work not the ipod controlls which is a pain but doesn’t actually cause any problem.

Not really sure about the B tech pre amp but generally I find the staff in richer sounds to be pretty knowledgable.

I am a bit late to the party. We have a 5kw stove that runs pretty much open all the time to heat our open plan downstairs living area.

We get our wood from the local saw mill, its green wood (sometimes has been around for a while) £60 per load split and delivered its about 50% more than a standard pickup by volume and quite a bit cheeper than seasoned hardwood.

We get through between 1 and 2 loads in a normal winter burning from mid afternoon through the evening.

I have built a wood store down the side of the house that will take 2 years supply. Its approx 3m x 2.5m high and enough for 2 logs deep.

Is it loosing the pressure while the heating is off.

If it only looses pressure with the heating on it could be an expansion vessel. Combi boiler have an expansion vessel which when it fails leaves no room for the expansion of the water when hot so blows the water out of the pressure release.

Just a thought always start with the simple options.

I would suggest a basic course in the uk along the lines of 3 consequtive days with a 2 hour lesson each day maybe hire a board and practice a bit on top depending on how fit you are.

It really uses muscles that you are unlikely to use in general life and really takes its toll.

A couple of 3 hour lessons is enough to get the basics under your belt, then it is just a lifetime of practice ahead of you.

I learnt at Polzeath in cornwall and the surf school their wass excellent as I am sure are most.

Finbar I think Globalti is correct

With regards getting the chimney lined I had it explained to me as follows.

It is the heat in the air that rises up the chimney making the chimney draw. If the air is not hot enough it will effectively stall at some point before it reaches the top of the chimney not drawing the fire well.

Open fire puts a large proportion of its heat up the chimney so easily warming up a standard unligned chimney.

A woodburner puts a much smaller amount of heat up the chimney and as a result it can be very difficult to get it to draw effectively. Restricting its area gives it a smaller area and smaller surface area to draw heat out of the gas in the chimney.

I might have been taken in by our installer, we had our chimney ligned and it works very well. You are supposed to get the log burner installed by a HETAS registered installer but if you are going to ignore this fact and do it your self you could always try the register plate and see how you get on, not much lost if you then need to line the chimney.

On a slightly lighter note I did completely underestimate the amount of toast 2 midwifes could eat, make sure you get plenty of bread.

We had our first at home a couple of year ago. Can only recomend it, Mrs Bigsurfer was adament that she didn’t want to go to Hospital as she definately wears the trousers and didn’s want to be told what to do and be restiricted to a room or even worse a bed.

It took about 12 hours from start to finish. The midwives were fantastic. They first came to visit and check everything was going ok and agreed to come back in a few hours time. Again one came back and when we had reached a set point a second midwife was called.

The birth went to plan and as you say 30 minutes after the birth we were all 3 sat on the sofa relaxing in our own house.

We did have to fight a little to be granted a home birth for our first but was well worth it. We have our second due in January and that will be another home birth if everything continues to go well.

I just take the blissfull attitude that it will all be fine and find that it pretty much always is. I am not a natural born worrier.

I presonally belive that the atmosphere in most hospitals and the stress this can induce is very unhelpfull for simple uncomplicated births. Our experience of hospital births is a staggering amount end up in C sections.

Drain is a sewage / waste water drain not storm water. Their used to be a sink in the garage at some point many many years ago.

Pressure is fine, not sure how that is relevant.

I am probably worrying about nothing.

It is worth mentioning that they live in Exeter in Devon in the city. I can’t beleive that the residual water in the machine will ever freeze but I did think that the U bend attached to the exterior wall may cause problems.
