I have an 08 saloon which is the 2.0TDi manual. It is a fab car for munching miles. The electric handbrake is a bit weird and I would prefer a standard manual one but it works although their are a fair few horror stories of the cost to maintain them. My experience is 45mpg ish on a long motorway run at 80mph. Drop to 70mph and you can get up towards 50mpg but I have not managed to beat 50mpg on any journey no matter how gently I drive at any speed.

CwmCarn the initial big climb from the carpark, something will always catch me out can ride all the sections just about but no way near having the fitness to put it all together into 1 long ascent without the odd dab or pause for hitting a large rock wrong etc. I was there last night and some of those roots looked like someone has been out polishing them secretly.

Not sure if the premier inn at St’davids has any parking.

Can you not share a room with one of your friends, I stay in premier inn’s pretty frequently and often get a room with a sofa bed as well. I am sure one of your friends can request a room like this I have always found the staff to be very helpful allowing bikes in rooms etc. Rooms are charged per room not per person.

The premier inn is directly opposite the train station which will make free parking hard, if you come out of the premier inn and head left their are a few roads of small terraced houses that you can probably park in overnight but not leave the van during the day.

If you need to leave the van during the day then google this:
50.731121,-3.544311 their is a car park behind the station that is pretty good value, cross the level crossing and turn immediately left.

That was some brake eating conditions I finished the last 3 miles with zero front brake and the back brake metal on metal heard a few others at the finish in a similar state.

I will be there with a mate. I didn’t think the weather for Minehead looked to bad tomorrow just some light rain. The weather in Devon at the moment seems to be torrential downpour and then quite pleasant. If you get caught by the rain you are going to be really wet though.

    Del,

Is that your bell tent, I have been looking for one exactly like that.

The key features that I am after is a single wooden pole for the door and a lace up door.

I am looking on behalf of a youth organisation, we currently have quite a few bell tents but the metal A frame poles at the front get hung on and zips always tend to be a weak point when filled with loads of kids.

If you know where you got it from I would be really interested.

    Thanks.

I did the caustic soda a couple of months ago and it worked perfectly after a 3 day soak.

Mix the caustic soda to paint stripping concentration and pour it into the upside down frame via the bottle mounts if you have some if not remove the bottom bracket. I used a small piece of tube and a little funnel.

Leave to soak mine took 3 days after which you could see a small amount of caustic soda had made it past the seat post. I put it in a vice and with a bit of brute force it came free.

My cautionary tale regards where the caustic soda ends up as I killed a good patch of the grass on our lawn emptying it out, washed it away with the hose pipe as soon as I spilt it but it has still killed the grass.

We have put oak veneer doors in from homebase they were on a 10 for the price of 7 when we got them and after 3 years with little children they still look exactly the same.

If they are not identical to these they are very similar seem to remember us paying £65 when they were on special offer

    http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10151&catalogId=1500001201&langId=110&searchTerms=564295&authToken=

They are bloomin heavy though, nearly broke the joiner who had to lug them up and down stairs to remove small amounts of material to get them to fit.

I think doors are like a lot of things that the money should be spent on the contanct points so an expensive door handle and lock + hinges to support the door correctly make a huge difference to the way it feels.

As a general rule sharkbait is correct but certain trees have specific requirements. For example soft fruit trees such as Cherry etc. are very prone to disease if pruned in winter so need to be pruned in June / July.

If you can identify the trees people can advise correctly.

Their are 2 main advantages to a pressurised hot water tank over a combi boiler.

    1. You have a large tank of water heated to a certain temperature also at mains pressure to feed into a shower this will remain constant all year around. A combi boiler has an ability to raise the temperature of the incoming mains water by a certain amount for a certain flow rate this tends to mean that with a correctly specified combi boiler you can have a nice powerfull hot shower in summer but in winter when the mains water can be as low as a few degrees your shower is either cooler or less powerfull.

    2. The second point is that a combi boiler can react badly to sudden alterations in the demand for hot water so another tap being turned on can affect the amount of hot water going to the shower causing a spike in temperature either up or down.

I would dispute that if you are unhappy with a combi boiler run shower that you will also be unhappy with a pressurised shower. Their is a lot more to a good shower than just the boiler. From our experience a pressurised hot water system properly fitted with a decent supply of main water through simple unrestricted large bore pipe work is far superior to a combi boiler.

All of the strength is in the height of the side walls the base that supports the mattress has tiny fixings that will not easily support the 2 end faces.

Our cot that can be converted into a cot bed has to side rails that replace the sides of the cot, they are solid wood and about 200mm high and connect just below the matress like a normal bed base so you could try something along these lines.

How old is blobby jr why not just take the cot mattress and make him a bed on the floor. Ours have always liked sleeping on the floor.

    http://lifeonthebalcony.com/how-to-turn-a-pallet-into-a-garden/

I have used pallets in the past for growing strawberries in a very similar point just stapple weed membrane to the back and pack with compost, if you can get decent pallets it can look really good, you could of course build something on the same lines out of decent timber that would last a bit longer but pallets are either free of £1 so they are hard to beat in my opinion.

Just checked my official land rover maintenance manual but it is for a series 3 and this has the vertical slave cylinder. It does say disconnect hydraulic hose and remove the 2 retaining bolts. Pretty sure it will be the same with a series 2 just different access to the bolts.

My series 2 trailer has a series 3 gearbox so I can’t help. most gearbox bell housing jobs are easiest once at least some of the floor / transmission tunnel is removed. I have made my transmission tunnel up out of 2 separate panels to make it a 2 minute job to remove it.

If you can afford £40 this is a completely brilliant hassle free way of grinding a specific portion size to a variable level of grind.

We have had one for a couple of years with daily use for both an expresso maker as well as cafetiere and it has worked faultlessly.

We did get ours for £30 in a new year sale but still great value in my opinion.

I am friends with all members of a family who 21 years ago had a baby very similar in time and weight to your step brothers girl friend we have just celebrated his 21st birthday he is 6’4″ built like a mountain and a very successful nurse back in the NHS. Sure the first couple of years was all a bit slow in terms of development targets etc but nothing that he didn’t come to catch up in and excel.

That ward in Bristol is fantastic, keep positive no reason not to believe everything will be fine I the long run.

Don’t ask Tony for all his amazing ability to teach and ride a bike he stood in the snow wearing shorts all day when I was their. I think his Jedi powers must keep him warm.

I was with him 2 weeks ago also on a cold day where it snowed. Pack a few extra layers you can always take them off, his site is compact enough for you to take a layer off and leave it on the side of the trail or pop back to your car if you are to hot.

I got a little cold in the first hour where their has to be a bit more talking but after that I was fine, plenty of riding / pushing back up hills to keep warm. I wore 1 extra layer on my top.

Have a brilliant day he is a great and very talented guy. I wouldn’t worry at all about your differing levels of skill now I have met him, he will bring out the best in every ability.

My guess would be if they are properly discouloured it would suggest that they got properly hot not just a bit of smoke so I wouldn’t risk it their is no way of knowing how hot they got and how much it has effectethe epoxy of the carbon fibre or the adhesive used to glue the drop out on etc.

Too Tall – Appologies for the daily mail link

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2140326/Shropshire-campsite-death-Girl-14-killed-tent-barbecue-fumes.html

You really shouldn’t be running any kind of burning device in a nylon tent. Bell tent / tipee are very different animals, especially the tipee that has 2 layers of canvas at ground level with a several inch gap all around the base which is the air inlet for the chimney.

If you have ever been in a tipee with a real fire in the middle you can see the smoke getting pulled directly up the middle of the tent and out of the large hole at the top which also has flapps that can be adjusted for the prevailing wind direction etc.

My opinion is its not worth the risk either buy the correct tent or don’t bother.

As Stoner has said you can probably get by with a basic £25 setup, I use a rothenberger super fire.

    http://www.screwfix.com/p/rothenberger-super-fire-torch-propane-gas-cylinder/83005

The main advantage other than nice compact stable flame is that it is instant to light and put out so you don’t have a blazing torch to put down. This really comes into its own when working on existing systems working in cramped awkward positions, this may or may not apply to you if it is all a new install.

I think they were alluding to profit dividend as apposed to shares, if I am correct the first £34K of dividend payment is only taxed at 10%. Could I be elligable for profit dividend if I am not a director.

Yes the current company is a limmited company and so would the new one.

Don’t need sash windows just regular windows although we do have 1 bay window upstairs that will need some outside cladding probably in real wood.

Thanks for the advice is their much difference between different UPVC frames in terms of thermal properties, cold spots, sealing etc. Hinges and handles are fairly easy to asses quality from samples etc.

All this comparing water bills is brilliant but nobody has pointed out that different water companies charge different amounts, as somebody that lives in the south west and pays over £1000 a year for a 4 bed house. You simple can’t compare amounts per month year unless it is all from the same water authority.

I am not one for paperwork and litigation but check your house insurance ours specifies that our chimney must be cleaned by a registered sweep at least every 12 months.

It only costs us £30 by the guy who installed the stove and I am happy for him to get messy when it would cost me 4 years cleaning just for the brushes and also its his problem if he damages the liner that cost approx £1000 fitted.
