I had a cheap cassette tool and had to buy a proper Shimano cassette tool to remove my lock rings, the tool is a very good quality but it is really annoying.

I am in Honiton. Have been off the bike for a couple of months with an injury but going out in an hour or so for the first time. With a couple weeks under my belt i would be up for a group ride at woodbury or any of the other previously mentioned places. Good luck with the house move.

If that is the case “Too Tall” then what level of filtration should I look at as the normal water tastes fine.

Murphys law states bits never fall off close to home, or at convenient moment while stopped for a drink or to admire the view.

Hope you are ok. I find if I break the bike badly the subsequent accident always destroys my phone just to make sure I can’t ring for help.

Watch out for ‘Nureek’, ‘retut’ or ‘hanunga’ unfortunatly if you get these you know you are only moments away form a ‘Squrlookal’.

The only sure fire way to diagnose one of the two parts is tohave it plugged in at a garage to read the error codes. But it might be worth pulling the plugs of everything you can find and put some kind of grease or WD40 type fluid to see if it is a bad connection like Stumpy suggested.

Skied and boarded in both Grindelwald and Wengen. They are both great places, although I only got to see a very limmited amount of Wengen as the visibility was at best about 100m Really nice little village type atmospheres with plenty of diverse pistes to suit all types. Have fun, kids and a complete lack of money are keeping us firmly planted in the UK for another winter. Make sure you get your head around the fenicular train at Wengen brings you up to the resort from the valley bottom and also takes you further up the mountain to start skiing although their must be lifts out of the village as well.

I am pretty sure the sensor is a fluid level sensor so to start with the fluid has dropped to the level where it shows the alarm and as you kept driving it has obviously lost more fluid so it stays on and now their is not enough fluid to run the power steering. I wouldn’t run the car until the leak can be identified and fixed.

I have a N8 and am really happy with it, have a few apps but really I use it for the phone, camera, GPS, sportstracking and satnav all which work really well. Web browsing also works well and has flash but isn’t as fast as Iphone etc. Its horses for courses. I think for the list of features above the N8 is excellent. If you want lots of apps to waste your life with then better with one of the others.

I still disagree, this year so far I have got a Wendy house, kids slide, picnic table and a Dualit toaster that just needs a new element all without any great degree of hassle some stuff from a wanted add and other stuff from peoples offered adds.

Just waiting to see if I can got and collect some top soil for the veg plot.

Molegrips, off course everything gets binned in the end but many things can live a much longer more usefull life. I try my hardest to always buy second hand either freecycle, ebay, classified its a little bit of work but it makes my small wage go much further.

I have always found it really good.

Just got a brilliant little wendy house for my daughter and a slide.

Have given away quite a bit in the past, loft insulation, gravel, desk etc.

I find you have to be very quick of the mark if you reply to an offer to be successful.

I have a small wind up Roberts radio that is a cracking little radio, it used to be really good as a wind up radio but with all these things after a period of not recharging by winding it the internal battery seems to have suffered. It still takes normal AA batteries in the back and runs for weeks on 2 AA batteries. If I needed one again for gardening/camping etc I would go for solar powered or just batteries.

If the stove is definately 4KW then you don’t need an extra vent. As well as this it sounds as though you have plenty of places where air can enter the room.

Stoves do produce carbon monoxide while burning and their is the possibility for this to be put into the room if their is not enough venting. We had a carbon monoxide alarm fitted at the same time. This was a regulation not sure if it is only for over 5KW stoves but for the cost about £15 it is worth it for peace of mind.

In the UK now since some point in 2010 any stove over 5KW needs an extra vent this can be in the form of either an air brick / round vent cut into the wall or a floor vent as mid life crisis suggests.

We have just had a 5kw stove fitted and to be on the safe side we had the floor vent put it as its one big open plan room with a kitchen extractor. The installer said they had to be a permenantly open vent but most people just put a magazine over it when the stove is not on.

You can feel an icreased draught through the vent when the fire is lit. Part of the reason for a senible placed vent is to stop the stove getting its air from a door or window possible causing a cold draught across the room you are trying to heat.

Not saying it is perfect but I think it more effective than just using the standard wording produced by some of these website. This is what I sent to Neil Parish the Honiton and Tiverton MP.

I am writing to you about the government’s planned sell-off of English forests. I have given my support to the 38 Degrees the people powered campaigning organisation in the form of a petition and action to raise the profile of the proposed sell off of Forresty Commision Land. Together with the other 350,000 members we raised enough money for a YouGov opinion poll to find out what the public thinks about the sell-off.
According to the poll, 85% of people want our woodlands to stay in public hands.

Can you please assure me that you will fight to keep forests in public ownership and vote against changing the law to allow a 100% sell-off?

I use many pieces of Forrestry commision land on a regular basis for both walking with my Family and also Mountain biking. I use Farway forrestry commision land at least twice per week and Haldon forrest several times per month.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Its so frustrating, I wrote a seperate email to my MP Neil Parish (Conservative) and suprise suprise I just got a reply telling me how fantastic it will be for all the forest to be owned privatly.

I just don’t trust them any more and feel that as soon as the forests are in private ownership small changes will be made in planning law etc to allow them to develop and limit access.

If you mean 4 lengths of a bar which is 30 x 60 then it depends on the lengths. Most engineering companies will have scrap metal collected but if you are after small offcuts I would have thought they would give them to you.

It really depends on who you get to speak to. You will just have to ask, I have always found companies very helpfull if it is going to a good use.

Its also worth getting you tap water checked by your local aquatics place just to check that its not a problem with the incoming water. Are you using some sort of product to remove the chlorine etc before you add the new water to the tank.

How big is the tank, I always found tiger barbs could be pretty aggressive.

The other possibility is that the fish you are buying are in poor health, maybe try buying fish from another supplier they vary greatly. Some places are run like pet shops and staffed by minimum wage staff with little or no knowledge.

Just being sarcastic but I offered to email or fax a copy of the current quote to them and they could not accept anything other than the actual quote posted. It just sounds like they will be a very long time in deciding and I only have a little over a week till the current cover expires.

    Davesport,

I wish I knew the exact answer to your question, we have only had the log burner for this winter so its not yet set in stone, although we do have gas fired central heating so we onl tend to light the log burner mid afternoon. I would have thought yours sounds as if it would keep me going for at least 2 years. I have 3 places that I can store logs the biggest is 4.5m wide x 1m deep by unlimited height. Probably be 2.4m high as its a standard timber length. I am pretty sure this will keep 1 years stock and then have 2 other places that I can store extra wood if I can source more but they are not as easy to access in the dark when its raining.

Pretty much the same as us the wood we have bought this winter is pretty wet still but using the small amount of really dry wood we have to get the stove going means we can burn the wetter wood. Really don’t want to have to go through next winter with wet wood again.

As i understand it its not that u will die just that the plaster might crack and fall off the wall. We just had a free standing log burner installed only 2 inches away from the wall. It was recommended that we had a large area replaced with fire proof board. The current plaster was not thick enough to recess the board so we had a small piece of fire proof board directly behind the stove and left the old plaster which has all been fine.

Vaude make some of the best small back packing tents i have used. Incredible light and very good in a storm but it did suffer after many weeks of being pitched in the sun. Not really what it was designed for.

I am sure it is a fnatastic light but it is over twice the price of the 1 watt smart rear light. Just out of interest do you still think it is better than 2 x 1 watt smart rear lights.

Does sound like the pressure vessel.

It will need the system part draining to remove any pressure on it and then the pressure vessel pumping back up to its recomended pressure. It might have just lost its charge of air over time or have a vaulty valve but often they have a hole in the diaphram in which case it will need replacing. Sounds like it is time to call a plumber / heating enginner.

87 should be an early 90 or 110 so will be coil srung although irrelevant as all landrovers have shock absorbers its the spring that it either coil srung or leaf sprung. Its nice to have new shocks but they are about £20 per corner and cheap and easy to fit you really need to look at the big lumps. Chassis, bulkhead, gearbox all of them. Make sure you can sellect high and low ratio, all main gears and 2wd / 4wd if this is an option. Steering will feel very vague if you have never driven one before but you should not need to steer to keep steering to go in a straight line.

I always liked the 2.5TD engine, sure it is slow and noisey but i always found it very reliable, only thing that ever went was fuel injector pipes shearing off. You have to love a vehicle where you can crimp the end of the brocken injector pipe and continue your journey running on 3 cylinders. only about £12 for a new pipe and 10 mins to fit.

Wish I had one at the moment, no nead to go anywhere but I would love to be playing in all this snow.

I am a little out of touch with landrover prices as I havn’t bought or sold for a few years but I wuld have thought that an 87 2.5TD should be in very good condition to demand £2500. Milleage is pretty irelevant on a vehicle of this age, level of rust and parts replaced are much more key. Make sure you are starting the engine from cold. i.e not been started today and that their is only a little white smoke that should clear up as the engine gets warm. Blue smoke means oil is being burnt and can be expensive to correct.

Trail Rat, please only go for a first viewing tonight. I have owned more than 10 landrovers of many differn’t types and the worst one I ever bought was purchsed in the dark with a powerfull torch. Its just not possible to see underneath properly with artificial light. Defenders are wonderful vehicles if you have a need for their very srong characteristics. But second hand they can be plagued by rust and in the chassis and bulkhead. Both can be hard to see if their is stonechip / waxoil applied to chassis. Should be done to protect it but all to often is used to try and disguise rust. Also keep a good luck out for oil leaks, it will have some they all do but it is important what is leaking and weather it can be serviced or at least topped up to keep it running well. Any half decent seller will allow you to put a small deposit down to return in the light to have a better look.

Just the towel rail will give a route for the water to stop any problems with the pump burning out.

So it is safe to adjust the radiators until the system is properly balanced.

    bigsurfer
    Free Member

You still have a valve at both ends of the radiator, one which is a lockshield type should only be adjusted to balance the whole system and the valve at the other with a knob fitted which you use for everyday use to adjust the temperature of the specific radiator depending on the heat needed. Unless the whole system is balanced you will always have some radiators that you can’t get up to their full temperature.

    bigsurfer
    Free Member

But after the radiators are balanced each one can be adjusted afterwards with the TRV to set the room temperature for each area.

After balancing you can turn the upstairs rads down a little, once balanced you will be getting the maximum heat out of the downstairs radiator, if this is still not enough then the only option is to upgrade the radiator to a larger size or possible a double core if it is currently a single type.

    bigsurfer
    Free Member

All heating systems should be balanced so that all radiators give off a similar amount of heat. This is done by measureing the inlet and outlet temperature and adjusting so that each radiator has the same temperature drop.

Have a look here for a better idea. Most plumbers can do it from feel and experience. Clip on thermometers are available pretty cheaply.
