Cheers for the info Cy. Defiantly an itch I think will get scratched before the end of the year. Now, who wants to buy a 2 year old Banshee Paradox frame off of me 8O

If you’ve got a bad back & want it for longer days in the saddle then I’d start with a steel frame which you should be able to pick up for £200-£300 off of the classifieds.

Wheels again a fairly decent set of lighter wheels 2nd hand can be had for about £200.

Forks depends on what you’re after but a set of Manitou Minutes (light & good enough) are about £300 – £350 on CRC IIRC. You might get a cheap set of old Rebas for £150 – £200 if you are willing to wait.

The rest can be had easliy enough from the classifieds but I’d budget about £250 to cover is.

I guess you’re looking at between £800 – £1100 for the full build, possibly cheaper if you get lucky.

Of course once you’ve got it built up you can recoup your cash by selling the bouncy bike which will just be gathering dust in the shed

Actually – I see this as positive for Jeff – potential customers will be reassured that they will be taken care of, even when his product is out of warrantyhaving paid a bloody fortune for a product in the first place –

Took our Collie out a few times but he just used to sit at the top of any decent & wait for me to come back up & get him. At 7yrs old i guess it was a bit late to start him off & he wasn’t quick enough so used to lose sight of me which is why i think he just sat & waited for me. :?

I loved riding with him but wasn’t too sure he was as keen but now wish I’d pursued it more as he’s 12yrs old now so too old. Next dog i get I’ll defiantly take him out riding with me.

Is the contract not with the place (shop or online retailer) that you bought the bike from rather than manufacturer?

Tried riding with my collie once or twice but he constantly tried to nip the front tyre as it rotated over the ground which led to one or two flat nose moments then on the decents if i got too far ahead he would just sit there & wait for me to come back up for him.

Gave up after a while :(

Surely if he’s that bothered about coming back he can/will in another guise?

How do you stop a person who wants to from signing up again when all you need is an email address which isn’t hard to come by :?

I think he’ll be lurking somewhere biding his time 8O

What about the new El Guapo 29er?

If its anything like the 26″ version it’ll rip

Stevewhyte – For my money on cross country I’d say definatly yes. The larger wheel size smoothes out the trail allowing the bike to roll quicker.

I feel they are more comfortable as well when compared against the same spec, material, geometry etc 26″ bike possibly because they roll better so you don’t get a much chatter from the trail but also because there’s a bit more air in those tyres to cushion the ride.

Is a 29er hardtail as comfortable as a 26″ full susser? No not in my opinion but then i prefer hardtails to full sussers for what i ride which is mainly cross country & playing about on small stuff.

29er as only bike to do on & off road = Yes

29er HT to replace a full susser = Prob not although the right 29er will do most things unless your hitting big drops & downhill stuff.

For the record i have 2 29ers & no small wheeled bikes.

The Ventana El-Capitan is 5″ out the back & up to 140mm up front.

No pics yet I’m afraid & its not a looker but like most non lookers its a mighty fine ride

    So far i’ve bought –

    Endura MT500 overshoes
Raceface Cadence bars for the CX bike
Sram Cassette for the CX bike
XTR Chain for the CX bike
    New mtb pump
    Bar tape

Depends on how tonight goes but i might also buy some wheels off CRC along with a sunline xc stem, XTR bottom bracket, Sunline thick grips.

Also looks like I’ll be agreeing on a 2nd hand frame :P

All in all i call that a good week

Try my brewery tap for one of the biggest selection of real ale micro brewerys in the UK plus some awesome US beers.

Their selection box is a great place to start & they do a mighty fine 52 week beer club. Yes you have to pay shipping but their service is great & in the 18 months I’ve been using them I’ve yet to have a beer I don’t like.

I started getting in to IPA’s after trying Bengal Lancer and haven’t looked back since. Marble Brewery in Manchester do a great beer called Dobber which is similar to Bengal Lancer if a little more complex. I’m now on to the US Craft beers such as Odell, Stone, Anchor etc but still got a lot of love for the likes of Magic Rock, Thornbridge, Marble, Bristol, Darkstar etc

Sainsburys do a good selection but i always find Waitrose good for the smaller brewerys, especially local ones to you.

When out & about keep an eye open for Freehouses as they tend to have some different beers on rather than the usual stuff & when in there see if they have any copies of the CAMRA magazine (Drinker) as this will have loads of stuff going on local to you pub, brewery & festival wise.

If you can find a beer festival they can be a great place to try new beers from all over the UK plus no one will look at you funny if your drinking 1/3rd’s of a pint so you can try more.

The long & short is to get out there & try them. Yes you may get some you don’t like but that’s part of it.

    Enjoy :P

cheers for the insightful replies to this thread guys. :-)

I’ve decided to go with the wheels because looking at where i can spend £200 elsewhere to save 500g its proving harder than i thought it would.

It may end up being a placebo effect but I’m happy to take the chance although i will be looking at the tyre choice as well 8)

Skywalker if not for the others then I’m interested to know why.

Once you’ve explained you don’t have to check back and answer any of the others comments as I will draw my own conclusion

My worry is not so much the speed aspect its the pushing an extra 500g or rotating weight when I’ve been in the saddle for 12 hours. How much will it have taken out of me having to rotate that extra 500g over the previous 12 hours :?

Will be tubeless with rim strips if using current wheel set or without needing the rim strip if i go for the new wheels.

Tyres will be the same no matter which wheels.

sorry i mean 12 hour endurance not enduro.

The drive train will be the current stuff I’ve got, X9 rear mech, XT front mech, X0 cassette & XT crank so going any lighter will cost more than £200

vinny – It would be tough to be honest to save 500g for £200 outlay but with some careful shopping around.
