Haha I’m already on there BBSB which is why I’m asking the question. Have have had a few dates inc one woman who I saw 4 times before I got the “lets just be mates” text.

Not sure if it was me looking too soon or not.

Gah this being single malarkey isn’t easy

The loan was done 2 fold. £7’500 of it was for me getting started in my own business & the rest (£4k) was for getting off road parking (which has increased the value of the property) She has never paid anything towards this loan & it’s in my sole name & always come out of my bank account.

I’m waiting for a call back from a friendly solicitor a mate has just used in his divorce so will see what they say.

Crankboy. I’m a mortgage advisor & can tell you its joint tenants on ours as i remember the conversation with the solicitor & yes you are right that is how it works.

She just won’t budge. I’ve pointed out all of the above and it makes no difference to her. She is just so bloody minded & tight fisted, always has been to be fair. I think she’s heading for a breakdown if I’m honest.

She asked me to work out for her how much she can afford to borrow. I said i need her salary slip which she has gone & got. I asked her for it but she has just sat there crying for the last 15 mins. It’s pitiful considering she was the one who broke it up with me in the first place.

    Jesus, women….present company excepted

Cheers jamablaya… I thought it was all the fault of your lot?

Got a number for a solicitor I’ll be speaking to tomorrow so i can get an “experts” opinion, not that you all don’t know what you’re talking about or anything

Cheers again guys, made me smile if nothing else which is what makes STW great 8)

That made me laugh sandwich. Get her to sign a fee agreement then send it to the solicitor so they can pay it to me on completion

Oh & she wants me to sit down with her tonight and work out what she will be able to borrow as a mortgage & what its gonna cost her because as a mortgage advisor thats what i do for a living.

    Cheers guy’s.

She’s not reasonable about money which is the trouble & has caused the issues that ultimately led to us splitting up.

Her parents are visiting for a while (not staying here) & are very rational, her mum thinks her daughter has made a massive mistake in splitting with me as do most of her friends but that’s by the by.

I’m hoping they can talk some sense in to her so we can just get on with it. Oh & yes IMO it is worth it over £5k given I’m still paying a loan back for some work we had done to the house a few yrs ago which i won’t see a penny in help from her on!

Cheers again guys…… will up date you all how it goes as i know you all love a good relationship thread

Toy’s – Thats what i’ve told her but her words were, without my deposit we would never have been able to buy the property!!

House is registered in joint names as joint ownership (no stated equity split) so yes i could go for the full 50% but that’s not my style.

House was bought in 2001 for £104’000 & now valued at circa £220’000.

Unkle & Rizla – This is what she is saying however as i have pointed out, if it hadn’t been for my income we would never have been able to afford to keep the house for the first 9-10 years as her income wasn’t sufficient to cover all bills where as mine was so we have both put in over the years one way or another, i’m not going to charge her interest on the monthly money over & above her’s which I’ve contributed & don’t see what she should do the same with the lump sum.

A bit of both. I’m a mortgage broker & we only get paid on completion so if the chain falls apart, client changes their mind or has a change in circumstances we don’t get paid despite having done all the work.

It’s sh!t but that’s the way it is. It also doesn’t help that we can sometimes wait 2-3 months from completion of the mortgage till we get paid as well!

Quite fancy a complete change of industry but it’s so difficult to get in to adult films these days

Wrecker – It’s the up & down nature of the income that’s the problem. Some months are £500 others are £3500 and recently its been mainly downs. Not saying I can’t earn enough to live on but it’s not regular enough if I have to survive on my own & because of debts that built up from a failed business which I’ve been trying to clear I have not been able to build up a buffer zone yet.

TRH – Word of advice from someone who is learning fast from his mistakes if I may? Sit down & talk to her. Tell her how you’re feeling & that you are worried she is unhappy with your relationship. I never really tried hard enough to do this as it just got brushed off by her because she struggled to talk about her feelings, to anyone including family! As a couple if you can’t communicate then it’s going to be difficult to have any sort of long term future & you just end up drifting as it’s the easy thing to do. I really hope you get it sorted.

Cheers guys. Great responses as usual and its been almost a week since the bombshell was dropped.

We’ve been getting on fine with no bickering or raised voices which has been nice but she has made it clear there is no way back. Once i had accepted there was nothing i could do, certainly in the short term, to change her mind my next priority was to sort the financial side out as being self employed my income is hit & miss some months but I’ve had assurances from work (only allowed a contact with one firm in my line of work) today that they would pay me sufficent each month for me to survive if needed.

This along with chatting to friends & family has helped make me feel more positive about things & I’m going to get on with it now, not saying it’ll be easy. I also want to thank those on here who have taken the trouble to message and/or email me with support, it means a lot when a stranger takes the time to do that. Thank you, you know who you are :-)

She’s adamant there is no one else & I believe her.

mboy – that’s what I’m doing at the moment. Her mum is coming down next week for a few days & we get on really well, she’s been massively supportive and thinks the sun shine out of my arse. Spent 30 mins on the phone to her last night so I’m hoping she might be able to help & point out that it could be worth trying harder. The girlfriend thinks a lot of her mum & listens to her. She’s not your average mother in law type.

    That’s my hope scardypants.

Speaking to some mates who have been there a common theme seems to be that when break ups happen because 1 side is unhappy & wants to make a change to make themselves happy they end up less happy & wanting to patch things up. Impossible to generalise I know & these are just from a hand full of examples but just wonder if its a common thing that others have experienced. I’m prob just clutching at straws here :-/

It was bought 2nd hand Rich so doubt there would be a warranty on it.

CGG – It was fairly mild but the out come was carnage – Broken post, mech hanger, rear mech & dislocated little finger plus various scrapes & grazes. Could have been worse given the broken bit of post sticking out the frame 8O

In defense of Mybrewerytap i had a normal order from them after the delay of my 52 week US beer club order & it arrived by courier within 2 days of order. I’d not hesitate to order from them again & have used them A LOT over the past 2 years without trouble.

    Also worth a look at beermerchants.com, alebymale.com, & thebottleshop.com.

It really depends what you’re after.

A mate had one custom made (roadie) for him & has ordered a 2nd one he loves them so much.

Prestige cycles in Hove (nr Brighton) import them but I’ve not had a chance to pop over & check them out yet.

Sorry i know that doesn’t help much

Got Manitou Minutes on mine set at 100mm with an x-firm spring installed by TFT at the same time i got them pushed. They also have the 20mm bolt through for added upfront stiffness.

They are perfect for me at over 20 stone when run with around 150psi 8)

Some mates did the FOD one (i couldn’t make it) one did it on a Cotic Soul & the other on a Heckler.

The FS should be quicker down hill where as the HT should make up any lost time on the pedaling bits & climbs.

Both had great fun & don’t enjoyed themselves so i guess what I’m saying is that both bikes will be fine just ride which ever you feel most comfortable on.

    Enjoy, gutted i can’t be there :(
