Well sure enough, even amongst the storms, they started felling last week… the good news is it’s in a coupe where there’s no trails (though we had scoped the area a few months back, then held off after seeing some of the trees were marked and taped)

Thanks for the hints and keep your eyes out for tape folks

Thanks for all the tips folks… as regards Waderider’s points about Coupes, I’ve noticed some areas have signs with the Coupe numbers on; would this be an indication that they’re being put to market?

(there’s also extensive windfall in the areas near the signs, which would fit with what you’ve mentioned)

Is there a colour coding system for flagging tape?

I’ve noticed multiple long fronds of yellow tape in one area and wonder what that might signify?

I’ve also found forestry mapping for the whole of the UK which might come in handy:

Thanks for that, a very handy resource!!

Is there something similar for folk building trails in other parts of the UK?

If you think about it, since wheel sizes increased, stays will have become longer anyhow; steepening the seat angle allows shorter stays, bringing back the glory days of fun, snappy and agile 26ers!!

When it comes to compliance, ride feel can be engineered in; think back to the 456 Ti with the curved top tube, or Production Privee’s shaped stays…

Whether or not that’s entirely necessary, given the additional flex likely to result from the increased reach and longer tubes of modern geometry, is another matter

Given the video above, suprised Owen Jones hasn’t twigged that Jim Waterson is Jess Brammar’s squeeze:

I can’t for the life of me see how anyone could allege some kind of Israeli conspiracy… after all Netanyahu is being done for fraud isn’t he?

    As for his lawyer:

Random anecdote: I was walking past there a couple of months back when a chicken suddenly appeared in the middle of the road with a young lady in hot pursuit; I joined the pursuit and we chased it into an alley… thought we had it cornered, made a grab for it, but it deftly wriggled, escaping my clutches, then doubled back and ran through the girl’s legs and escaped, so we had to keep chasing until we finally cornered it by the postman’s trolley.

    Wasn’t even her chicken!!

Bit of a moral dilemma that… kill people because they’re using too much fossil fuel

However, the war that kills them is backed by fossil fuel and aviation companies and consumes vast amounts of fossil fuels, along with a wealth of other resources.

It’s rare you hear of the military wanting less money…

Can we expect a David Attenborough documentary alerting taxpayers to the consequences of their actions?

When it comes down to it, beyond all the propaganda about bombing for peace and stabilizing countries by flooding them with weapons, how much of NATO’s business is about securing oil reserves?

Often seems like the kind of subject that most folk are too scared to talk about…

Bit of a shame, as not much’ll change (apart from the whole destruction of the planet thing) if it carries on like that

    Thank goodness for Danny Finkelstein…

Wholly agree that in an ideal world, Anti-Semitism and all other forms of racism (often downplayed) should not be tolerated

    However:

    a) Why is Labour the only party targeted in this way?

    b) Why are leaders such as Ephraim Mirvis not ensuring zero tolerance of Zionist extremism?

    c) Why has there been no political outcry, or media coverage of Israeli interference in UK politics?

Hard to know what to think…

bit like Ian Blackford’s ties to senior CIA bods via Deutsche Bank Alex Brown, which in itself spills over into Erik Prince of Blackwater; not a million miles away from Rudy Giuliani’s involvement with Camelbak…

    many crimes never even reach a court;

but anyway, as you say, let’s see what due process brings

I would have more respect if they campaigned out side the embassies of those counties which are doing very little (USA, China & India). Gluing yourself to the doors of the Department of Transport is just pointless.

In simple terms, that makes sense… but lets not forget, the UK has a ‘special relationship’ with the US and like many other markets the world over, uses China as a cheap manufacturing base, so not only are many of the emissions originating in China due to consumers in more privileged countries, but also, the impact of transporting those goods is down to demand.

What’s more London is the centre of the Global Financial Industry (individually speaking, it has been over taken by New York with all the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, however, that fails to take into account the full impact of London’s offshore network of tax havens), so is key to much of the global industrial activity jeopardizing the planet.

That also means the City of London has a vast amount of leverage, if they felt inclined to use it…

Not necessarily have a watch of this for details on chilled/frozen produce transport. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0008zkc/what-britain-buys-and-sells-in-a-day-series-1-1-fruit-and-veg

Mad how tied to Heathrow passenger flights the seafood industry is!!

Course, that was just a snapshot… how much other stuff is whisked around the world in the cargo hold?

And much of the waiting time at airports is due to loading non passenger related cargo?

(or is it just scheduled in in such a way as to not add to the delay of other activities such as fuelling etc)

It’s a tricky one… R Kelly being a shady creep doesn’t stop some episodes of his hip hopera from being pretty damn funny.

His music is still shite though and since he is indeed a shady creep, including blackmail n suchlike, I won’t be sharing it

Then of course there’s the whole Drake thing…

But he’s once again, he’s wack, so it’s no great loss

    How about Harvey Weinstein films?

Not necessarily something you’d immediately register as he doesn’t generally make an appearance, but there’s a helluva lot of em!

Whilst I support the general principles behind Extinction Rebellion, sometimes wonder why they don’t publicize some of the matters raised here:

Why isn’t there tax on aviation (or shipping) fuel?

So in addition to being among the highest in both energy consumption and C02 emissions (in both absolute and per capita terms) the US is now a net oil exporter?

Wonder how they transport it internationally…

    bigmountainscotland

If the US pretty much supplies itself with oil and gas, why the need for such an extensive global military presence?

Of course, assuming the best, it could be for humanitarian purposes, however, it never quite seems to work out that way, for whatever reason.

On top of that, let’s not forget that recently there’s been talk of escalation because a Saudi Oil Installation was attacked…

    bigmountainscotland

So are you suggesting countries like the US and UK should just shut down their military and stop all oil and glass operations immediately?

Not at all, though in the long term, that would of course reap huge benefits for the entire planet and several species along with our own.

You may have noticed from the thread title that this is an exploration of some of the wider issues surrounding why there isn’t tax on aviation and shipping fuel, which is at the core of so many of the wider problems we all contribute to and even those not contributing still face.
