Came from an Enduro down to the next 29 stumpy comp, put a pair of 160mm 36’s on. It’s fast playful and great fun to ride. Did a week in the Alps shortly after getting it and was impressed with how it coped with the terrain. Definitely quicker than my 2014 Enduro down a hill and pedals really well up a hill.

I own one, XL 29, in alloy. Not long back from a week in Chatel, way faster than my enduro even with less travel.

More composed and actually more fun to ride, can’t fault it, felt far more confident when in the air.

No me but friends have. It’s a fair bit quicker than first appears. Popular and pretty competative, Craig Hardie was winning a lot of races this year, he’s very quick, a front runner in the Scottish CX races.

Everyone I know who has done it said it was a great experience.

Was a company car driver some years ago but opted out of the scheme for a cash allowance. I bought a just 3 year old Volvo which I ran into the ground over a 5 year period at roughly 40,000 miles a year. However due to the price of purchasing & more importantly running a car I’m opting back in. Looking at a diesel Mondeo estate, reasonable MPG and big on space for bikes, plus I’m old enough not to worry what type of car I drive.

    Dansk,

if you’re 30 just get the fastest company car you can, forget everything else, plenty of time for that when you’re older.
I had an S60 T5 at that age, paid through the nose for it mind, it was fun though!!

I’m just about to order my new company car. Similar dilema but Mondeo v’s A6 estate.

Doing the maths I think it’s the Mondeo Titanium X TDCi 140, don’t really see any point in forking out the extra cash for the A6. Just want a big comfy estate that’ll has the space for a bike/bikes in the boot.

I know some people love their cars but I’d rather spend the difference between the two on biking gear of family trips.
Been a BMW owner in the past both 5 and 3 series, nice cars, can’t fault them. Guess it really depends on how much the badge means.

If you’re planning to buy one always go for one with a tank on it, you cant paint very well if it doesn’t have a tank on it. I’d try and get something with at least a 6 litre tank.

bol – when I checked it out I would have been upset if I’d ordered it, I’m pretty sure it’ll ride well but I wouldn’t have settled for it!

Looked at a pegasus in my lbs the other day, I was underwhelmed by the quality of the welding. Lovely bike let down by the welding IMO.

It wasn’t as neat as the welding I’ve seen on a Litespeed that a really lanky guy I know had!! (edit – I’ve just realised who the op is)

I work for an insurance company, we all just sit there and laugh at the prices we charge punters whilst sipping champagne

Actually most insurance companies don’t make that much money from motor insurance, there are a considerable amount of claims out there to be paid for and remember the insurance companies also plough cash into a fund to cover incidents where drivers are uninsured. So if more people paid for insurance and less crashed it’d be alot cheaper.

Thanks guys, don’t ofter ride gnarly terrain, don’t mind quick steering as used to race BMX, more interested in comfort and retaining momentum.

    cheers

    Guys,

thanks for all the feedback, plenty to think about. I can feel a trip to the local drum emporium coming on. I guess it’s just like buying a bike, I’m pondering the 2nd hand option. I’ve already ruled out junior kits as I know he’ll grow out of those.

LOL at Epo! I lived there for 15 years, but going back there scares me, I always feel like they’re going to realise that I escaped and try and keep me there.
My folks and my sisters are still there, they like it.

    Pump them off.
Hold the nozzle of yout track pump over the hole on the top, get an assistant to operate pump, hold the bottom of the grip tightly to keep the air ina and pull the grip upwards. It’ll be like it’s wee hovercraft.
