In addition though, despite whatever claims are given on the tin, one coat is never enough unless conditions are ideal, which they almost certainly, aren’t. Bored yet? Yeah me too :D

It was self Undercoating, and still says it is on the tin. But it’s changed recently without to my knowledge any notification to us proffesionals. Whereas you used to be able to rely on it adhering to old paint, (hence the self Undercoating claim) now it sticks to bugger all without alot of preparation. Bizarrely the new Dulux quick dry range is pretty good. Anyhow, try a small area with your water based stuff and give it a good scratch test when dry, you may well find that very little prep is required as the satinwood is still fairly fresh. Dulux have always been hit and miss, with periods of their paints being good
..and not so good. The emulsion however is pretty consistent.

Bonesetter I don’t need to know this. Now it’s going to burn away in me until I give in and try it :D

Sadly I can’t really offer much comparison as I never had it built up for 29 + (well only on the rear). To be frank I doubt there’s a huge difference, I just went for 650b as I’m using my old pikes rather than buying boost.

Very easy except, one of the thin bolts had sheared, had to use my spare hanger. Just loosen the big nuts, remove the plastic spacer with pliers, and wind away ;-) The worst bit is when it dawns on you that you have to shorten the chain

I like 650b as I’ve wound the adjusters in for minimum chainstay length. Turns on a dime now ;-)

Spec Purgatory 3.0 front and rear. Not a huge fan of scwalbe so that seemed the grippiest option available in the UK right now.

Love them to bits, have a fairly large collection now. I’m a painter by trade and have alot of opportunity to listen. If you haven’t already then look at the Peter Grant series by Ben Aaranovitch. Brilliant narrator

Fully 650+ on my stache, Hope and Scraper for last-ability (I hope). Only two rides in but I’m totally sold on it and it will be a long time before I feel the need to go 29+. Peterpoddy, yes I got pedal strikes but no more than usual.

Im no expert as Im very new to the whole thing, but I feel you just cut your cloth accordingly.
I ride in the FoD which has it’s fair share of mud to say the least. So what if my tyres aren’t optimum for slop, the moments when I get superb rollability on the good bits more than make up. Plus it gives me a good excuse to ride like a girl down steep stuff that should be better left for dryer conditions :-)
I just love the way you can ride off piste over stuff that leave others struggling. Anyhow, im running purgatorys front and rear and they’re good enough for me..ehem..until maxxis release the rekon

Got a purgatory control 3.0 on scraper rim, just fits A Pike 29er. Had to remove mudhugger though. Still awaiting Maxxis Rekon if I’m honest. Will give purgatorys a good test on Sunday and post my feelings.

I’m more concerned about that saddle. Wtf is it, bet it’s called The Plaguedoctor

I appear to have just ridden nearly 70k on mine , which nicely dispells the draggy tyre nonesense ( only plus size on rear, maxxis chronicle)
Fair amount of that was on road too which is hardly ideal

Hmm that’s a shame, good news about maxxis though.

Im slowly getting mine to what I want it to be, Im going 27.5 as I want to use my almost new 29er pike forks. I’ve just taken delivery of a hope/wtb scraper front wheel and a Purgatory control 3.0 tyre. It will fit the pikes but, not with a mudguard and there’s no way im riding in these conditions without one so that’s going on the back.
Until I get the rear 27.5 sorted I am staying 29er, I did take it out on a very long ride last weekend with a maxxis chronicle on the back and minion on the front. It was brilliant :D

Paste the wall type papers do not expand, and because of this don’t need soaking.

Get a zinsser smoothing tool (or similar) and use a trimming knife with snap off blades. Don’t use a stanley blade type knife as they are a pain in the rear.

Back in the dark ages, it was often a “thing” to have a fatter rear end with a narrower front. More recently fools like me who are buying into a newer “thing” can be seen running a 2.25 front with a massive 3 inch 29er plus rear ( and having a bloody good time). This was only done because I can’t yet afford to go full “plus”
Do it, you wont die, probably.

Seal walls well before pasting for best results, Zinsser Gardz is excellent for this. It will A: Make the paper dead easy to maneuver B: Reduce the amount of paste needed and C: The paste wont soak into the surface too fast
Something I have noticed with this new style of paper is the need to make the background a similar colour, i very often measure out where the edges are going to be and paint strips on the wall with a matching colour beforehand. The reason for doing this is because you cannot stretch this new stuff, so if an edge is open because of poor trimming (at the factory) or uneven walls then the edge stays open and there’s sod all you can do about it.

On the OS map app, I have yet to successfully import a gpx.
I desperately needed to use a gpx on the weekend, it was recorded via some other app and was well over the 200kb limit so I split it in two using route converter, still would not work.
I recorded a 60k ride on sunday, which will not import to the pc version due to it being over 200kb….im out sadly, and regret paying the yearly sub.

Check that the oil in damper side is actually where it should be. All of mine had migrated from damper into lowers. Got a whole new set under warranty and from what Ive heard I’m not alone. Warranty was brilliant, took about a week.

Had an irritating knocking on the front end. Put it down to the “bit o play” that’s apparent on the top of travel on pikes. It got worse so I spent a good hour trying to isolate it. In my rush to build my bike over Xmas I had cleverly fitted crown race upside down.

Yes, phone now to book the Bistro Or be disappointed as they’re always busy. Failing that the Royal is very good, and so is the chipshop by the bridge.
Marin trail is always good, don’t miss Cadair Idris if you like views, The Beast trail at Cyb is,….a beast.

Molly, became Molly moo, which morphed into mooper. Now Molly mooper goes so well with words like super dooper that we now have all that’s required to go along with that awful Abba song.
