Cheers for the Schwalbe tip guys, and it's reassuring to know that I should be able to use with 29er dims without problems. Leads me to ask more questions though….
How much green stuff can a Slime tube lose before it's just a tube?
And can you see on it where it has made repairs ie how many punctures/leaks have been avoided?
bigdonxFree MemberYes I believe the new version the Hope guys were talking about was for greater battery endurance, not neccessarily more light. Probably looking at battery level indicators, charging and that kind of stuff too.
bigdonxFree MemberBut, the Hope guys I spoke to at Fort William this year told me that they are bringing out a new light spring 2010, supposedly even better, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting……….took them about 10 years to get organised with their seatpost.
bigdonxFree MemberI've had the original Vision 2's and now the Vision 4's. Both very good lights. The thing that made me go for Hope in the first place was the robustness – wanted something that wasn't going to stop working the first time it got a knock.
The only problem I did have was when I managed to pull the cable out of the back of the V2 (the original ones had short cables and crap connectors that you couldn't grip properly) when trying to change a battery. Sent back to Hope and they repaired without question (or charge), and upgraded to the new cables which are just fine.
V4s recommended.
bigdonxFree MemberDip your "hotrod" in yogurt – it's meant to work for a curry……..
bigdonxFree MemberCurrently running a 70mm stem, don't want to go any shorter. As I said, technique probably the biggest problem, but what I'm curious about is whether "higher" bars will create more leverage around the effective point of rotation when lifting the front end – if that makes sense??
The bike does climb quite well, so don't want to sacrifice too much of that, however I'd rather give up a bit of climbing prowess if it means avoiding a face plant situation………..
Incidently my hardtail is far more fun/confidence inspiring on the downs than my FS and it has a slightly longer stem and higher rise bars, of course there are a plethora of other geometric differences which together make it hard to directly compare.
bigdonxFree Member+1 on keeping a diary/log of what you've done. It is almost impossible to stick to a plan to the letter due to having to have a life too. If you don't keep a log of what you have really done, you "imagine" you've done much more than you actually have, making it easier to justify skipping even more sessions.
It's a vicious circle………
bigdonxFree MemberThe cat s**ting, on your bed, then taking a p*ss too for good measure.
F**ker, however the new cattery will be unveiled tommorow morning. I'll give them a couple of weeks to settle in, before I return the favour………….
bigdonxFree MemberInterrupted seat tubes – ie the ones where the seat post will only go down a wee bit before bottoming out. Not handy
I know cutting the seat post kind of gets round the problem…….until your tall mate borrows your bike and puts the seat the up to his height without thinking!
bigdonxFree MemberAC/DC – High Voltage
The Stone Roses
Pearl Jam – Ten
Nirvana Unplugged
Just never get sick of any of these – of course I could say the same about Meat Loaf – Bat out of Hell – now there's an album!!
bigdonxFree MemberLast night I met a guy who used to be Fred Wests next door neighbour – during his gardening phase!!
bigdonxFree MemberThe two I have are the Cree ones – didn't realise they did a lesser model.
That's maybe why mine hasn't blown up with the 3 battery setup.
bigdonxFree MemberGetting the rechargables inside without damaging the outer cover/insulation was also another problem that made me dabble with a seperate battery pack. The rechargable Duracells I tried certainly didn't fit without a lot of huffing and puffing – then you couldn't get them out!
bigdonxFree MemberMeant to say used Standard Tesco AA version on helmet but switch was pretty crappy and didn't like the winter nights – that's why I started experimenting.
When it worked, it worked quite well.
bigdonxFree MemberI have one that I modified to use 3 x rechargable AA's in series on (3.6v as opposed to 3v of 2 x ord batts). Works well as a spot to supplement my bar mounted hopes.
Batteries and on/off switch now in my chest pocket and I just turn on as required.
Works well considering it cost less than £20 with rechargables and all.
bigdonxFree MemberOK. Cheers for the info – I'll look into them a bit more (so to speak)
bigdonxFree Member…and I once touched Jamie Olivers arse with my elbow (as he was passing my seat on a plane – fully clothed I might add!)
bigdonxFree MemberI once finished off Baby Spices' chocolate pudding (that's not a euphemism either BTW)
bigdonxFree MemberInverness – what more could you want – close enough to the wilderness and far enough from most of the people!
bigdonxFree MemberA full meal of pasta an hour or two before drinking. Lots of toast after. And a spoonful of Marmite before bed!
When you get up at 6 in the morning with your bladder bursting – empty it, and refill with water.
DO NOT take the water at bed time, you'll overload and this could lead to Rock Star Death syndrome…… There are not many things worse than waking up in the night with Marmite flavoured vomit up your nose – sobers you up though!
The problem is of course remembering to do all this
bigdonxFree MemberAlchohol is addictive – but you do have to work at it. But it is also legal and therefore can be tried by anyone over 18. Surely it is better to try and foster a culture of "responsible" drinking – eg have some exercise, have a couple of beers and a bit of banter, go home a happy bunny, not an angry voilent bunny?
In reality kids are going to try alchohol anyway, and I don't think we can blame the mountaini biking press for this.
It also occurs to me that the kind of kids who would read MBUK, and ride a bike are not really the ones that will develop problems (in most cases) as they already have something to do other than drink full time.
And anyway, most of them are far too stoned out of their heads to make sense of the words in MBUK anyway…….. 8)
bigdonxFree Member2 or 3 times during the week (evenings), and hopefully once at the weekend.
All offroad (apart from a bit of linking) – road far too scarey!!
bigdonxFree MemberIf the yoofs stuck to drinking pints, instead of alcopops and other much more "efficient" ways to get blootered, our world would be a better place……. the quantity factor would slow them down a bit 🙂
bigdonxFree MemberYes – it's normal – a real pain in the a*se when your not expecting it though.
bigdonxFree MemberIf battery charging is the issue see
http://www.batterylogic.co.uk/technoline/technoline-BL700.asp
for the mother of all battery chargers – tells you everything that's going on with charging and has a refresh facility to bring batteries back to full capacity.
Only works with AA & AAA and is a wee bit pricey, but will save you in the long run I reckon.
bigdonxFree MemberDon't know about your batteries Swoosh – best to fully discharge them before charging though for max capacity, but…
…I have dabbled with Tesco torchs and had similar symptoms to yourself – in my case it was the "cheapness" of the on/off switch that was the weak point. You will need to test the batteries independantly to verify this though.
I managed to get the switch back to life by fiddling around a bit loosening/tightening, on/off with varying degrees of anger, etc and eventually it started working again. I don't think these switches like the cold and/or wet.
bigdonxFree MemberI have a similar 1 x 9 setup. Was having problems with chain jumping off front on fastish downs when free wheeling – a real pest, allways jumped out the way because of chainline when in higher gear. Tried a road mech and tight chain – was marginally worse in my case.
As this was on my hack bike didn't want to fork out £40+ for a chain guide, so stuck on an old front mech – not the prettiest, but does the job. Haven't dropped the chain since.bigdonxFree MemberI've got three sets of Knog Frogs – great for being seen – not great for seeing with – but would get you home if your main light failed. I use them for the through town commute to the trails to save battery on my main light. Really bright and last for ages on the flashing mode – wouldn't recommend to use them in solid mode as the led is quite small and wouldn't be quite so obvious as flashing.
Plus you can't really break them and they take up very little space on the bike – for the money they are excellent.bigdonxFree Membermrkbutty – the Cratoni does look like a good compromise – it's a bit like the Met but not quite so "Transformers" looking
bigdonxFree MemberOh well, maybe I'll just have to try one and see. I think a sweaty head (gets a bit sweaty on ups anyway) and reduced hearing (often ride with tunes anyway) are bearable if it means my next faceplant doesn't result in not being able to shave for a month – or worse! Only thing is it's much money to fork out to find out it doesn't suit.
bigdonxFree MemberRemoving an institution like the Royal Mail would just be another step in the de-Britishanisation (new word for today) of our fair nation. Yet another step towards anonimity when the United States of Europe finally kicks in. We'll be like the 50th state in the USA that no one can ever remember….
I like the Royal Mail, even after the postie putting my new forks in the wheely bin, and it should be a state subsidised monopoly – why not??….Delaware is it???
bigdonxFree MemberI still don't understand how anyone in there right mind can ever expect to get a flight for nothing – it's just not a realistic proposition. The guy on Panorama who was getting return flights for 2p must be one of the very few of O'Learys 67m passengers who get this, but to all intents and purposes it is free.
The other 66.999m have to foot the bill of the man who flies for free.
But, it gets peoples attention and gets them to the website – again no law says you then have to book!
Also out of 67m passengers, theres bound to be a few disgruntled ones – but many millions of happy ones.
And to say BA offers a much higher standard of service for a similar price, well this maybe true – but for how much longer???When I say "happy", I suppose "satisfied", would be a better word to use – not sure anyone can be "happy" to fly Ryanair – unless it's for 2p 😉
bigdonxFree MemberLove him or hate him, Michael O'Leary is a marketing machine – the very reason this discussion is happening is due to his marketing tactics – ie everyone has heard of Ryanair and is aware of what they do.
There is no law that says you have to fly with Ryanair, or pay their fares, but human nature lures us like flies to s**t to anything where we think we will get something for nothing – where as we are all aware that very rarely in life do we get anything for nothing!
And you just cannot argue with the success of Ryanair – MO'L is a genius at the end of the day – his methods may be questionable, but his results speak for themselves.
bigdonxFree MemberChase – I put the bin out on the street myself – makes it a bit more hard to take. But in fairness to myself the Postman had put the note through the front door on Wednesday, I arrived and left from work by the back door where the bin was, and took it out on my way past – Our bin is allways full enough to go out – it never really occured to me to check for my mail in there!! Found the note Thursday, and it was one of the proper undelivered notes – just no other info on it other than "Pkt in green bin".
And it was our regular postman who comes every day, and probably thought he was doing me a favour in his lazy a**ed logic way of thinking.
