For shimano they're a different width – each cup is 1mm wider than an mtb 1 – ie a set of ultegra cups will be 2mm wider than xt for example.

If you buy a hope road BB it's just an MTB one with 2 x 1.0mm spacers….

    iPhone OS 4 Compatibility
iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the autumn. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).

Quite a few places seem to have them now, I got my Raptor 10 from here:

Very very pleased with it compared to my mule and blowfish. I went for the large (6'4") and the fit is much better than camelbacks! Lots of nice touches, and well made.

If you get an auto omega then this will likely have a co-axial movement. This is significantly different to the vast majority of other autos out there, removing a large amount of the sensitivity to friction, and it should make the watch much more accurate in the long term.

A bit like a ford focus, but with a 50,000 mile service interval?

    co-axial on wikipedia

Considered by many to be one of the most significant horological advancements since the invention of the lever escapement, the co-axial escapement functions with virtually no lubrication thereby eliminating one of the shortcomings of the traditional lever escapement

Who can ever have any sympathy towards him? As the father of a 2 year old myself I find what he did truly upsetting – it had my wife in tears many many times.

Having some boiling water poured over him is nothing compared to what the poor little boy went through.

Amount of weight over the front wheel? If yours is longer then there'll be less weight over the front?

Indeed.Bad editing too. When the Toyota rolled down the hill, with all the bits falling off,(especially the four spotlights on the roll cage),in the shot they showed next, with the wheel ripped off,the undamaged lights were clearly still visible,in situ, atop the roll bar!!

Sorry to be pedantic – just rewatched it in slowmo and the lights are intact throughout……

Although I agree a lot of it is staged these days…..

Surely that helps your case then if, as stated, his lane says he has to go left, your lane gives you the option of going left, and you were indicating, and ahead of him, at the time????

I have a custom built Enigma Echo. I've been very pleased with it – it is easily the best handling and comfiest road bike I've ever owned, but still nice and stiff out the saddle. I descend on the road significantly faster on this bike than any of my others! (previously owned: Custom made raleigh Ti frame, custom graham weigh 853 frame, custom made Mercian 'king of mercia', carbon fibre look KG386 and specialized allez).

Both Mark and Jim were very helpful, mark certainly seems to know his stuff in terms of geometry / fit and handling. As above though – when I ordered mine the lead times for custom were a little on the long side (this was going back nearly 2 years), but then it was well worth the wait in the end!!

I think you can still go to him direct with a spec for what you want and he will build it for you.

I designed a hardtail last winter and from me handing him the drawings to me having my finished painted 853 frame was around 6 weeks. I was chuffed to bits with it!

    Chris phoned me this morning….

Doc has confirmed nothing broken, but he has a very badly dislocated shoulder. It's still dislocated, Chris is awaiting a visit to the surgeons knife at the QMC in Nottingham to pop it back in and stitch things back together (a lot of ligament / tendon / other damage apparently) – I think he has an appointment tomorrow morning…

Still in a lot of pain (no more morphine!!), and very grateful to all who helped him!

    @ Jackal

As you say there are IP and HP bleeds for engine operability (these dump air into the bypass duct as you said). The cabin bleed is just HP6 (low power) and IP8 (high power).

There is an HP3 offtake which is used for inlet anti-icing though…

Not too long to go now and we'll be building the first XWB – I'm really looking forward to it. Nothing beats going down to the build line to see some actual hardware!!

    That's kinda true….

The pic above is a Trent 1000. The blue system (ie a fan, shaft and multiple turbine stages) is the 'LP' system, the yellow system (8 stage compressor, shaft and single stage turbine) is the 'IP' system and the red system (6 stage compressor, shaft and single stage turbine) is the 'HP' system.

The way to think of it is the 'core' of the engine generating all the power is the HP and IP system. This core is used to generate power which the LP turbine extracts to drive the fan.

At idle the Fan will only rotate at around say 10% of it's full speed (say 3000 rpm), generating only a few thousands pounds of thrust. But as you said, to do this the core shafts, in particular the HP shaft will need to go at 70-80% of its maximum speed (around 13,000 rpm). In going to full thrust (say 75,000lb certified sea level thrust for Trent 1000) the HP shaft will only increase in a bit to get to 100% speed, but the fan will go around 10 times faster!

The eagle eyed among you may have also spotted that in my first post it should be HP6 rather than HP3….

    Cheers,

    Col.
