Thanks for the responses – that seems to confirm what I thought, that there must be sod all glue in there!

It’s annoying, but I think its probably least hassle if I just fix it myself.

We went last year with 4 people and 3 bikes – ended up renting a Chevy Suburban, which is the biggest SUV you can get I think. We could fit the bike bags in stood up in the boot length ways. Anything smaller we would have seriously struggled. Previously we’ve used a Chevy Tahoe (Ford Expedition) and that would have been too small – it essentially the same car but with a shorter boot.

The American SUV’s are huge on the outside but not actually that big on the inside.

You’ve only got 2 bikes – so you may be able to get away with smaller.

You can get the boot dimensions on the internet of the various cars and then check if the bike bags fit.

We had some bikes / wheels stolen out of the garage and PedalSure were great. The cover is by Axa but PedalCover have an agreement with them so that they deal with any bike thefts – including valuation etc. We got new for old, list price valuations for what we had stolen and got the money very quickly.

In terms of locks – there was no requirement as they were in a locked garage.

Not experienced it that way round – but I lost my passport in France and wasn’t allowed on the Zeebrugge – Hull ferry without it. Had to drive to Calais where there are UK Border Police who had the authority to let me on a ferry back the UK without a passport.

    I’m afraid to say – I wouldn’t be hopeful.

What I meant to say above is that in any given group of riders (on road bikes) with people of different weights, with different tyres and different types of rim brakes – some set up better than other – there will be a pretty wide range of braking ability. I’m not sure adding disks to the mix makes any difference.

I’ve never seen a problem with riders in groups having differen types of brakes. I’ve used my canti equipped cross bike as my winter bike and the brakes on that are no where near as good as normal road brakes and it’s never been a problem riding in groups or doing chaingangs etc.

I’ve also been in crit races where the odd person is racing on a cross bike with cantis. Ian Field (CX National Champion) used to.

It seems odd that you are allowed to race on the road with crap brakes but not good ones.

    [Edited to make more sense]

40T at the front and 11-32 at the back for cyclcoross racing and winter road riding.

11-36 at the back for the 3 Peaks.

Could you get a cheap laptop and run on two machines?

You would then need to pay for an account each if you were using Zwift for example.

I haven’t actually done it yet, but both me and my son use Zwift and we keep meaning to go for a “ride” together. Fortunately we have 2 turbos and 2 computers. Will need to buy another ant+ stick though.

Get there early before opening and queue to get in. Go straight to the dinosaur section and it should be pretty quiet. Be all done by lunchtime, when it gets really busy, and go to the science museum in the afternoon!

“What we do know, though, from official EU voting records is that the British government has voted ‘No’ to EU proposals on 56 occasions, abstained 70 times, and voted ‘Yes’ to legislative proposals 2,466 times since 1999. In other words, UK ministers were on the “winning side” 95% of the time, abstained 3% of the time, and were on the losing side 2%. Just pointing out how many times the UK government ‘lost’ is hence a misleading picture of what has happened.”

Worth noting that it doesn’t appear to have any brake mounts – it’s a track bike, not really a singlespeed for road use.

Not that it’s stopped me ordering one! (need a grasstrack bike is my excuse)

You could always keep it 1 x 11 and put a larger cassette on it. One of my cross race bikes doubles as my winter road / general off road / 3 peaks bike. It’s got a 40 tooth chain ring and I use either an 11-32 or 11-36 cassette and I find the gearing fine.

I’ve heard few times that racing on bridleways is illegal. How does the 3 Peaks Cyclocross manage it (up and down Pen-Y-Ghent lane)? Is it that racing is allowed as long as the land owner gives permission or is it just that it’s been running long enough?

You are in a room with two doors. One leads to freedom, the other to instant death. There are two guards – one always tells the truth the other always lies. You are allowed to ask one guard a single question. What do you ask?

I’ve used https://www.icarhireinsurance.com and they paid out about 1000 euros without much hassle when someone drove into the back of our hire car.

I think the Garmin 25 only supports FIT files.

I’ve got a 2013 Macbook Pro 15″ Retina and that seems pretty good. I don’t play lots of games but it seems to deal with Elite Dangerous and F1 2013 pretty well.

It has a discrete graphics card in it which is used when playing games (you don’t need a separate monitor). It does eat the battery and get a bit warm though when its using it though.

I notice that of the modern ones, the only one with a separate graphics card is the top spec one. They do however have better integrated graphics than mine so not sure if its as much of a requirement now?

To summarise the above method, it is basically:

    1. Stretch tubs on rims overnight.
    2. Put layer of glue on rims and tyres.
    3. Leave 2 hours then put another layer of glue on rims and tyres.
    4. Leave overnight.
    5. Put layer of glue on rims.
    6. Put tape on rims.
    7. Put layer of glue on tape.
    8. Put tyre on.
    9. Leave for 24 hours

Everyone seems to have there own way of doing things, but I’ve always followed this guide:

    http://belgianwerkx.com/2013/08/gluing-cyclocross-tubular-tires-the-belgian-way/%5B/url%5D

I use Jantex Velox[/url] tape and Vittoria Mastic One glue. I use them on carbon wheels (even though the tape says its for alloy only)

I use 3-4 tubes of glue to do two wheels.

Touch wood, but I haven’t had a tub come off yet!

    Thanks for all the responses.

We’re going to Flaine – could only find ESF and ESI. Happy to hear any other recommendations.

He’s done 3 weeks skiing previously – only had a few lessons in that time though. He’s pretty confident skiing,
if not the most technically proficient!

I could be tempted with wrist guards. His salopettes are pretty well padded, so I think they should do. We’ve all got helmets and are happy wearing them.

    Here’s some 46t chainrings:

    SJS Cycles Chainring

I’ve put Shimano chainrings on SRAM cranks in the past and not had a problem.

    Edit:

Ahh just noticed you said 11 -speed. Not sure any of them will do then.

I’m currently running 1×10 with a 105 rear mech with the spring tension increased as cookeaa mentioned above. I’m using an SRAM thick / thin chainring. So far I’ve done 4 races and the chain hasn’t come off yet even with a few crashes. I think its more reliable (in terms of the chain staying on) than the previous 2×10 set up.

A full SRAM CX1 Hydraulic groupset. My wife entered for me and didn’t tell me until she got the email saying she’d won.

She hadn’t quite realised that I then needed to build a new bike to put it on!

The M74 through Glasgow had some (or used to anyway). I have no idea why and if it means anything different to a national speed limit sign.
