A lot of people will push for a sample to be collected, but this is often not neccesary as the problem can be identified on site.

it also helps the figures as there isn't a recorded water quality failure

It might be worth keeping hold of some of the brown water next time you get it though and asking if they would analyse it.

They probably won't as the bottle could be a source of contamination. However it does let the person who visits have a look at what you are getting.

You could well have an iron service pipe, there were a lot of galvanised steel pipes laid in the past

must be something thats local, never heard of them personnally for services off a water company main (obviously not talking about cast/ ductile iron mains, steel mains quite rare as they never lasted)

if you don't like call centre's write in, they have to respond or pay you money, ditto if they are late for an appointment

keep writing in until you regard the situation resolved. If it needs a mains replacement get your neighbours to complain as well (water companies rely on people giving up to defer investment) as numbers matter

if you get good service get names and write in, might get the person a good service award/ pat on the back and means he will be nice to the next moaner customer ;)

don't assume because you are getting billed by them that they provide the water.

regardless push them to take a sample when it next occurs

Its unlikely you will have a iron service pipe (the main may well be), its more likely to be lead if its an old cottage, black alkathene or blue poly

If you are at the end of a cul-de-sac you may suffer more from the build-up of sediment but is is the responsibility of the water company to manage that by either regular flushing or mains rehabilitation.

Water companies prioritise by complaints therefore insist on a sample (when the problem occurs), if they refuse write in if no satisfaction then try CCW (Consumer Council for Water).

At the end of the day they are required by law to provide potable water and are penalised when they fail to do so. However they can't do anything about it if they are not aware. (at the same time you have to get through the call centre that will be trying to fob you off)

    Rohloff hubs anyone?

Sounds like as with anything product testing is being done on the early adopters.

funny how the fact that the policeman put the fire out with his bare hands is missed by the comments above

    another interpretation is

police approach known violent offender off his head on petrol, the guy rushes them holding the petrol and lighter, they zap him with the tazer, go "oh sh*t" when he goes up in flames and promptly put the flames out with their bare hands and call for medical assistance for all.

but please carry on making comments about "lowest common denominator policing" if it makes you feel better

try silver bonded bead as I think they can fill smaller cavities

hard to find an installer, harder still to get one who will give you the subsidised installation, costs more but none of the problems associated with the rock wool stuff

I did it and noticed the difference

    I've read the article

no evidence given to link the effects shown for the tubs on test to the reason given to it

the test shows the manufacturers (who did the test) 28c tyres have lower rolling resistance than anything (so why don't we all ride 28c?)

test data must be older than the article based on the tires tested, they all look mid nineties to me

"tubs wearing through base tape" never heard of that problem, base tape pulling away from the tub due to the "too sticky" cement I have seen

of course as you come from the TJ school of discussion….. you are right

The guy in the yellow shirt does get paid (not a lot) if he remembers to claim

do as he says even if you disagree, ask for explanations

losing speed, totally disagree with samuri for a taster session,
best done coming out of bend
solo: look, take pressure of the pedals but keep rotating the legs, drop onto the "wooden blue", trundle next bend, look, then onto flat
group (solo exit): look, move up out of the group, drift to the back, look, drop down and do the stuff for solo
group (group exit):look, ease pressure slightly and drift down the track like a corkscrew, lead group onto wooden blue, look and slow gently

remember to keep pedalling until you stop

    other tips
hire bikes use look pedals, bring your own or hire
    don't wear baggies
    take your helmet peak off
    gloves are a must
relax, I've seen kids literally throw themselves off the bikes becaues they tense too much.

no skill I just use modern products, they acheive the desired results. You are probably still using that awful grey cement

if the tyres sqirmed that much the track team would be using them, seems strange that they are all on tubs

the conti cement had dried to a thin layer and held the tyre firmly in place. I had to "break" the tyre off and assist with a tyre lever to get any purchase

I would not have put another tub on without applying more glue, there was "tack" left but no enough for me.

I suggest Mr aracer that you get someone else to fit your squirming tubs

having just levered some glued on tubs off a rim there was no squirming going on

CXP33 (clincher)rims are probably the place to go, mid section and tough

I have some J bars which work well on my geared (flippy lever) bike, not convinced for a SS as the extensions seem pointless when you spin out on the road

personnally I feel he has taken the health advice given by his doctor, he has also probably saved us a fortune in long term medical care by losing the weight. There have been side effects, they should help.

Its a far higher priority than tattoo removal and other self inflicted conditions that need cosmetic surgery.

longboarding on 2 foot clean is bliss

I only have a longboard and have ridden it (with varying success) east and west coast as well as the SW. The techniques are different to shortboarding but it opens up a new range of surf conditions.

At the end of the day its still surfing, if you have a hang-up about longboarding you probably ain’t mature enough for it yet ;) stick with the MTV generation shortboaders and their “cool” look

    just get one,

do they race? there’s a snobbery that if you race you don’t put a saddle bag on the bike.

Personnally, I use a saddle bag as an allen key in the kidneys from a tumble isn’t a good plan

the point is that during the era that doping was at it’s height non of the journalists blew the whistle (probably because they would lose their accreditation)

example: coverage of the entire PDM team leaving the tour one year danced around the whole issue

they bothered to get out of the press room and find the real story and also expose the other sports that are doping systematically as well

the self same journalists wait for the climate to change to write their exposee’s of the situation and to take a moral stance they never had at the time

    leeches and cowards…

    big_n_daft
    Free Member

no, they are fraudsters and should face criminal trials. The UK and other countries should follow others examples and create the crime of “sporting fraud”. Drug cheats steal the soul from sport.
Campaigning and truthful reportage across all sports is needed not the rubbish that goes on now.

the book writing journalists are just leeches writing what they want about a situation they knew about at the time, they too chose not to spit in the soup when it was happening. Therefore they are also culpable for what has happened to the sport. The holier than thou crap they spout in books as “revelations” is just exploitation

I cn help a little (or confuse)

I doubt its a Raleigh, I have two of what I believe were the last model (one is a warranty replacement after they stopped making them)

they are both 1″ head tubes not 1 1/8
the seat stays come into the frame lower
the baze on for the cable guides are different
    27.2 seatposts

even if its a Raleigh its probably only worth 150-175

the headtubes stretch at the bottom cup, but they are a nice ride and quite stiff

the white circle below the braze on what is it?

the campag 102mm BB’s persistently failed me

UT (centaur/ chorus)seems to be going well and is serviceable and stiffer

The Vin Denson’s book is good and all the better that its written by the rider who is still around

Obree’s book is worth a read

Hinault did a book (out of print) which is good

    for ethical reasons I’d avoid
the Whittle and the Pantani book personally as journo’s making money out of doping is almost as bad as the doping its self, (Kimmage is allowed the Rough Ride but not the subsequent career on the back of it)
    and
“In search of RM” outed a very private man unnecessarially don’t buy/ read on principle

Great weekend, excellent ride out, not as epic as 2008 but good fun

    race course was very good

organisation was great except the portaloos started backing up by early Sun morning otherwise pretty faultless

excellent beer on tap the SSUK 09 brew was lethal, shame about the large group in the beer tent who decided that they didn’t have to support the bar on Saturday night but I’m sure eveyone else made up for their lack of support

    Rollapalusa makes you ill!
