Just checked out the prices, you could probably hire a van from the UK and drive there and back for not much more. Road trip it part of the experience.

I’m all over the lycra bibs, just need more baggies to go over the top. Couldn’t possibly turn up at EWS sporting lycra, they wouldn’t let me ride.

My eldest is 12 going on 13, I’ve just built him a bargain Genesis Grapil, I’d be inclined to look at a Specialized Enduro or something similar for that cash, light enough to pedal up and easily enough travel to come back down anything…

First real outing for the Grapil today, my lad loves it, here’s a wee video.

    @oldnpastit ,

It’s taken me a week or so to gather the courage to read your thread, as a parent I can’t imagine what you’re going through.
I don’t know what to say to offer any support or constructive advice. Other than keep sharing updates here, hopefully this is a place where you can share your feelings and your sons situation, a place where decent folk will listen and offer words of support.

Look after yourself & your wife.

@twohats, what do you think of the Boomslamgs..?

I was keen to get both my lads on proper bikes with proper kit as soon as possible. I got a small 13″ Trek 2nd hand and they both started on that. Youngest was 8 when he had it, he’s 10 and has been on a small Trance for the last 6 months or so and that’s really helped his riding.

@mulacs it’s the 18″, it isn’t that big, it’s for my soon to be 13 year old who is 5’6″ and he looks pretty good on it already….

I’s suggest the Pivot as well. My friend who is also petite won the Scottish title on hers, smart little bike.

@remoterob I fitted and external lower, clearance with an internal would be very tight…

Haven’t really looked at the routing yet but suspect I’ll be going round the outside to avoid any clearance issues..

njcisca, it’ll be tight, just holding my Fox floats up to the frame as if there was an integrated headset in there & they just clear the frame, just!

crapjumper, I’m doing exactly the same for my soon to be 13 year old. Bought the frame, got some Fox forks from classifieds for £145. I have all the other bits from his old bike & my spares stash.
I sold his old frame and forks for the costs of the new ones so I’ve budgeted about £100 for things like new BB, headset, gear cables, maybe grips etc.

I’d think that you should be able to get something half decent together running a 1 x 10 set up for £300 – £350 on top of the frame. Some smart purchases from classifieds, ebay and the usual facebook groups should see you with a nice bike.

You’ll get some great 2nd hand forks for that money. I have a lovely pair of Fox, you’ll even have some money left for flowers & chocolates.

Bought some at the EWS last year, followed the instructions, clean bike, spray on everywhere (not discs) wipe with a rag, leave to dry. Ride bike, get muddy, wash off, bike comes up clean, reapply, repeat.
It worked well for me but I can’t buy it locally so when I ran out I didn’t get any more. Will order some more..

Having seen the guy smash himself to bits on Stage 4 day 2 of the EWS, I’ll stick to a proper full face on the stages and an open face on transitions.

I’d like to see full faces as mandatory in all enduro races.

Left foot forward over jumps etc. Always unclip my left foot to stop, unless off camber.

Right handed and skate/snow board leading with my left.

Try 35 Bikes, they have an ebay shop, http://stores.ebay.co.uk/35bikes?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

I’m currently running their disks and they’re perfectly OK.
