Cheeky (if you know you know) chip-in from me. Cancer really is a cancer.
I’m a useless dancer when I say cancer is a f**ker. Rob – had my number from the start.
More to call me out than call me. You’re a top gent and I wish you some excellent days.

If anyone can herd the old cats for a bike ride and/or beer count me in.

    Me with another by-the-by – can’t help myself…

These mentions of Taiwanese frames – should I add in the “I’m not a racist but…” at the start or do I assume the authors each have in-depth knowledge of all the costs and processes and people involved in the creating of every bicycle frame across the planet?

Biff – sweeping statements under the carpet since 1998  :O)

Did you buy it from/through me? If that’s the case then I’d like to explore contributing to the cost of getting it fixed locally. I’m not technical and perhaps it’s not possible/realistic but I do look to support/assist customers (and fellow Jones riders) when I can.

By the by… my (original) Ti Jones is still going strong – not been ridden recently and when I did ride it I was 60kg and notoriously jey with my riding so perhaps not a good comparison. These things happen. Email me if you think I can help. Thanks.

Currently they are only Stateside. I have asked about them coming (direct) to Europe but not possible at the moment. Nothing to stop someone buying one in America and bringing it back or having a friend there send you one but shipping and duty and all that ain’t simples. Despite what any meerkats might say :O)

If/when this changes I will update.

Ti Diamond Plus with Ti Truss fork – UK RRP £4308 (25″ might well be out of stock)

A test ride (with an open mind) is the recommended course of action for the Jones curious.
Happy to sort out all I can – I’m emailable. Enjoying the posts here – good conversation.

Lotto – I’d have thought the 24″ Plus will be the better version for 5′ 11″ you (wanting comfort on multiple day rides). I’ve a 24″ test bike here – question is where are you? Test rides are everything. Numbers seldom add up to much :O)

23″ Plus Spaceframe test bike is on the ‘build list’ – soon.

    Chief has it… the Plus frames are 23 / 24 / 25″

The 23″ is a Spaceframe as this offers excellent standover clearance. Its geometry is the same as the 24 and 25 Diamond Pluses. When I say same this is shared ‘Jones Geometry’ for the PLUS models, just as the 29 frames have their own version of ‘Jones Geometry’. The sizing of the two models (Plus and 29) is such that a 24″ Plus is the correct size for a rider who would ride a 23″ 29 Jones.

That makes things a little clearer? Jeff will then talk about stem length and straight/layback seatposts and seat angles and rake and trail and rim width and tyres and tyre pressure and much more. Passion.

In other news – Jeff spoke to Rohloff man at Interbike. They are making a 148mm thru-axle Speedhub and will work with Jeff to create the precise bolts (etc) needed for it to fit a Jones Plus.

Errors and omissions excepted. Any (other) questions, do ask.

My 24″ test is back to me tomorrow. Can measure then but
lots of info (inc rider sizing suggestions) at http://www.jonesbikes.com/jones-plus-148-ta/ and I think Rohloff do a SPEEDHUB 500/14s as a 148mm hub but not sure will work with Plus – I best check.

Thanks Ton. The UK 25″ Plus test bike is with the ‘Monger.
I have the 24″ (although a dealer might ask for it for a loan).

A blend of 1 and 3. I’ve spoken to Nick at Alpkit.
It was a good conversation. He might post something here.

I wrote so much it’s a shame to waste it…

For the record… Jeff (and his wife Sheila) *are* Jones Bikes (they do now have one person working for them but that is pretty much it). There is no big financial backer. There is no parent company. They are ‘good people, making good things’. Earning a living, not living the life of Riley. Jones Bikes *is* the inventions, the vision, the creativity and passion of Jeff Jones. H-Bar competition (for want of a better word) is a challenge (for want of a better word) to the livelihood of Jeff and Sheila. And me and the independent bike shops that sell H-bars; Shona, Richard, Charlie, David, Jelle, Wayne, Tim, Wolfgang, Giampaolo, Jonathan, Phil (and a few others, but not many, I’ve tried to work with people who get it, not ask about the (not great) margins). It is important that good people do the right thing. It’s not about IP laws, capitalism or ‘dog-eat-dog-reality’ and it’s not ‘so-and-so did this so that makes this alright’ transferred justifications. It’s morals (noun, plural – standards of behaviour; principles of right and wrong) and respect. Charlie has a phrase “don’t be a dick” :O)

I distribute Jones stuff in the UK and Europe because it’s great. And Jeff is unique. I can’t live solely off the money I earn (I’m also a graphic designer and of course The Outcast is an incredibly lucrative sideline) but I want to be a part of the Jones thing. The Jones business is a varying ratio of riding (paradigm-shifting) bikes with lovely people (people truly appreciating the products and the efforts behind them) *and* paperwork and EU sales reports and sales guessing forecasts and import duty and tax and VAT returns and bizarre ‘can you sell it for free’ requests (from people who must themselves work for free?). I’ve been riding H-bars since 2004 and got a Jones bicycle a year or so later. I’m old school and old-fashioned (anachronistically principled). I’m sure someone will be along shortly to point out my hypocrisies. We all have them – but lots of wrongs do not make something else right and lots of rights don’t allow a wrong. I try to do the right thing. One day I might have to ‘eat a dog’ in order to ’survive’ but I’m holding out for as long as I can.

Here’s hoping this reaches an amiable resolution. I’m optimistic.

Why speak to Alpkit about a bag for the Jones Loop? We’ve had one available for ages

Ages? I was talking to Alpkit August 2012. Not sure when you were doing yours (if I read your website correctly (your lovely) Tom Cat announced November 2014 and mentions 18 months development). We digress.

You asked Alpkit to make a close copy of some bags that are already being made by other companies?

No – Alpkit were making Alpkit framebags. I asked them to make some to fit Jones frames. I made no reference to other framebags.

    Biff – UK/Euro Jones person here…

Bags… I previously asked Alpkit to make a batch of bags for Jeff Jones Diamond and Spaceframe frames. I provided the Jones badges for them to include in the production (and provided them with frames and H-Bars to work from). We talked about a bag for the Loop H-bars.

The bar is not something I (or Jeff) was aware of until seeing it here. I have emailed Col and Kenny at Alpkit about it. I wait to hear.

My Jones – 2006 and still loving it. Tempted to up-fat the fork,
but the ride was proper sorted way back then. A genuine original.

Not as shiney at the moment. I need to clean it up a bit. Scotchbrite.

The 25″ test bike here is set up with a 110mm (10 degree) stem and the Thomson Dropper (a lay-back post might well be a better option for big riders). This is intentionally a build with ‘big people’ in mind (hi Jelle!). A straight seatpost and 50-80mm stem brings this bike round to ‘average joe’ appropriateness. The 24″ (not shown) has a 2″ shorter seat tube so much more standover. Depends on what you are wanting – the 25 for big riders and excellent bikepacking capabilities, the 24 for a little less bike. Same pioneering Jones ride (so I’m told) although the Plus geometry is different to the Jones 29. Horses for courses. Thoroughbreds both.

I’m not sure how your diamond is compromised anyway?

It was just the compromises/balances comments from James and me.

    Not selling. Talking about bikes.

    Compromises?! :O)

I’ll settle for a Jones compromise over many others’ ideals any day.
Out on my old Jones today – what a brilliant bundle of compromises.

Maxxis Chronicle is a tyre option. As for older frames ‘crashing’ – too good for that!
Not older, just different. Two models now ‘29‘ and ‘Plus‘. More words and pictures to come.

Rented two bikes from http://www.dsvbikeshop.com in Morzine and snapped a shifter clean off the bars. Told them. They were ok with it. Great service (good sense of humour too). Recommended.
