+1 for the Indian. Was there a few weeks ago and it was great.

All the best to you. My three year old son is on his third month of treatment for lukemia (ALL) and whilst the chemo is grim, the times in between treatment he’s running around and doing what most three year olds do.

I have a 57 plate. It’s a good family/dog/bike/camping car. Spacious inside a feels solid despite lots of plastic. No major problems in two years of ownership. Not particularly exciting but I guess it’s not supposed to be, getting about 35mpg across town to work and back, maybe 40ish on a long run.

Mine is doing the same, worse in climb, slightly better in trail and fine fully open. Havent had a chance to get it back to the shop yet.

Njee – spot on. Still sounds a but rough but probably won’t notice above me huffing and puffing and my creaky knees lol

I’ll check the freehub. It is a Hope and I had to get my lbs to remove the old cassette and think the freehub came off with it some may have something to do with it.
No teeth touching anywhere. Thanks for the advice and apologies for posting in the wrong forum.

Hopefully turned a corner today. Temperature has stabilised and he has eaten (albeit a small amount) and made lots of laughter.
This is no doubt the first of many setbacks and can honestly say it has scared the hell out of me but Haydn is an incredibly strong little guy and a real inspiration to me. All being well we can soon get back on track with beating this disease.

Thanks again for all your messages of support. Today has been a better day, the trip to Bristol is on hold and everyone is feeling more optimistic.

Deadlydarcy – thanks for the offer, would be good to meet up with some STW ers, whether for a beer or preferably a ride when all this is over. We’ve been lucky enough to have a room at the CLIC house whenever we’ve been in Bristol before.

Haven’t updated this thread for a few weeks as to be honest life has just been too busy. After the first few weeks of treatment going exactly to plan, just recently things haven’t been so great.
After numerous trips backwards and forwards to hospital both in Bristol and here in Plymouth, Haydn was admitted again on Tuesday with a sky high temperature. Looks like he’s picked up an infection on one of his lumbar puncture sites and has everyone stumped. Five days of constant antibiotics have had little effect and so it looks like we’re heading back to Bristol Children’s Hospital tomorrow.
He’s doing amazingly, he obviously has a lot of down moments and plenty of pain but it is incredible how one little smile or chuckle can restore your hope and lift your spirits.
Apologies for another rambling post but just feeling a bit lost tonight, not knowing which way this is going to go.

Team of 4 here. Have hardly ridden the last month or so due to BGD junior being poorly but going to give it a go in support of CLIC who have helped get us through the last few weeks. If you see a very tired bloke in a CLIC t shirt please put a blanket over me 😆

Have spent the last two weeks living mainly in a small hospital room with a wife determined to make as many bands as possible to sell for the cancer charity who are helping us while bgd jr is sick.
Can’t fault her intentions but they’re driving me mad.

Just a quick update, Haydn has been diagnosed with the most common form of leukemia and we’ve caught it nice and early. He’s having a permanent line fitted this afternoon so we can get cracking with treatment.

The support we’ve had from absolutely everywhere has really been quite overwhelming and although very tired we are all doing OK.

As soon as this is over Haydn has decided he would like daddy to hire a camper van and take a train ride up Snowdon to look for dinosaurs 😀

Thank you again for all your comments.
Mark90 – we are indeed on ward 34 and please tell your wife how wonderful everyone is.
Saw the consultant earlier who confirmed it is the most common type of leukemia and is very treatable. It’s just going to be a rough ride, but then if we didn’t like bumps we’d be roadies 😉

Thank you. He will, he’s a tough little guy and is so far dealing with it much better than mummy and daddy.

I could get used to it, but once the car is fixed things will have to go back to normal as I drop junior off on my way to work and don’t have enough time to ride in.

Not far, only 8 or 9 miles. Rather more uphill on the way back though so may take the scenic route 😀
Would love a road bike but every penny likely to go on fixing the car. May have a look for something cheap.

They’d be used on everything from tarmac to rocky trails and everything in between. I’m guessing they would be too much, will have to try and track down some 2.2s

Will be trying to get a sneaky ride in at Brechfa too if I can but usually end up there when I’m visiting and haven’t ridden afan yet and fancied a change.

Medley bars are my current trail snack of choice. There’s a spot on the edge of Dartmoor where I always stop on a night ride and take in the stars on a clear night.

Thanks guys, will see how the wife gets on and maybe give penhydd a try too.
BPW is a bit far as I’m staying the other side of Carmarthen and would also take me out of my comfort zone lol.
What is the best option for a long ride? Skyline, W2 or a combination of others?
    Cheers

I’ve had mine for about 5 weeks now and absolutely love it. I went for the Pro model and upgraded to Pikes and custom colour.
Already had a Reverb that fitted and most of the spec was the same to my last bike which is perfectly fine until it wears out.
If there is anything in particular you want to know give me a shout.

I would recommend Tamerton Foliot. Just a few minutes from Roborough via the back lane and easy riding onto Dartmoor it has a villagey feel but also easy to get into Plymouth (if you really must).

The reason I removed the paint was to make it easier to identify a crack. I would have thought they would have the technology to identify a problem.

I don’t think I have much choice. I’m not expecting something for nothing, only what is fair.

The discount depends on the rrp of the chosen bike. My model is no longer available and the equivalent is not something I would want as it’s only available as a 29er. Although it’s only my frame that’s damaged I am not able to choose a frame only option.

Sounds like that’s that then. Thanks for your advice, much appreciated. Next time I’ll leave well alone.

The shop and bike company are the same – probably gives it away.

That’s what they seem to be saying but seems harsh to me. My cables have worn paint away, would that void warranty?
If a gesture of goodwill is all they legally need to offer that’s fine, I just need to know what is reasonable to expect

They haven’t asked if I damaged it (I didnt, I found what possibly looked like a crack while I was cleaning it). No names just yet, suffice to say it’s a big company with what I thought was a very good customer service reputation.

I used a bit of wet and dry to rub the paint back a bit to see if I could tell whether it was a crack or not to hopefully prevent having to send the frame back. They say this is preventing them from telling if there is a problem or not.

The discount was offered as ‘a gesture of goodwill’.

Yes, the recommendation came after they inspected it.

The warranty department have the frame.

They said they don’t want to say it’s safe to ride in case something happens. The frame is no longer available, I have been offered discount on a full bike, just trying to gauge if this is acceptable.

Thing is, I’m not a great sociliser and have no interests other than mountain biking. Like the idea of climbing, might look into that

Thanks for the offer ivnickkate, extremely generous but I’m about as far away from you in the UK as it’s possible to get. I’ve tried walking the dog in the evenings but she’s afraid of the dark and won’t go further than the last Street light even with a Maxx D!
Good shout about the bso, with the hills round here should keep me fit.
