I’m using the same forks with the exact same amount of spacers (approx 15mm) as I had on the old frame. Unfortunately the steerer isn’t long enough to fit any more spacers so it’s a toss up between spending a few pounds on a shorter stem and hope it works without making the steering too twitchy or spending a load of cash on new forks for the sake of a few mm of extra steerer!

The ett on the old frame is 620mm and 654mm on the new. With a 70mm stem on the old frame and now with a 50mm stem, I’m obviously stretching 14mm further on the larger frame.

Cheers all. I’ll give the saddle adjustment a go. I don’t feel like I’m looking up too much unless I’m on a long straight section, road etc. The peak on my helmet is adjustable and isn’t an issue. I think physio would probably help, I occasionally ride a cx bike and don’t experience any problems then.

I’m 6’4, have gone from a large Orange Five to an XL Santa Cruz 5010. The new bike feels much better apart from being slightly too low at the front which is causing the neck strain.
I’m just trying to figure whether reducing the length or increasing the height of the stem by 10mm, which is going to make most difference.
I have been oiling my neck regularly but unfortunately is not helping.

    Thanks all.

Is there anything else in the area which might be worth a look? I had thought about the Gap route but heard mixed reviews.

Thanks all. Thought I had it a couple of times as the tyre stays up for 24 hours but then goes down. Could hear air escaping around the valve so will have a fiddle and see what’s what.

I did try that but if I do the lever up reasonably tight then it won’t turn, or too loose and obviously the lever won’t engage with the cam. Just thought it was odd that the instructions say to use a socket but mine has nothing to grip onto.

The price is what’s putting me off at the moment but I know I would benefit from ditching the contacts.

Sounds good, are they any tougher than normal lenses? I’d be worried about spending a load of cash on something that’s going to get scratched up as soon as they’re covered in mud and grime.

Thanks, will try and avoid that. Have only ridden that way a couple of times before and last time was cut short by a group of shifty looking cows up by Peck Farm (I think). Hopefully all will be clear tomorrow

I found the Baron on bike-components.de though it’s a bit pricey as its the special edition one with the Continental fender.

Going back to the Magic Mary, is a HD a good match on the rear this time of year?

Thanks for all the replies. I think I’ll give the MM a go and see how I get on with it.

Thanks for all the replies. So size wide would the 2.4 X King rear be a good match for the 2.2 TK that I already have up front?

I thought my Pikes were doing the same. Turned out the stem faceplate bolts needed torquing, a bit of carbon paste helped also.

Intervals are probably what I was thinking of. Something to improve power and speed. Not sure my knees could cope with single speeding 😐

Sorry to drag this up again but is this what people have been experiencing?

The forks are a warranty replacement as the damper shaft broke on the first pair and these will no doubt be going back too but would like to carry on using them over the bank holiday as this is my only bike but am concerened that they might be unsafe. Has there actually been any recognition from SRAM or Fishers that this is a problem and/or a safety concern?

My Pikes went back last November and we’re replaced under warranty. Took pretty much two weeks iirc. They were very helpful when I contacted them directly, the email I used was Sram.Tech@sramtechcentre.co.uk

    Hope that helps

Chainline seems fine. Have been running the same set up no problems for nearly a year. The only change has been the new cassette and chain a few weeks ago.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess I’m looking to gain a bit of confidence on drops, roots sections and general technique so will have a look through and see who might be best.

Positive thoughts and healing vibes to you. I think I may have mentioned it in your previous post but my three year old son was diagnosed with ALL last June. I’m not sure if it differs in adults but whilst there have been plenty of ups and downs but he’s now clear and steadily getting back to normal. It’s amazing what the human body can endure. My email address is in my profile if you ever need to talk – not sure if I can offer anything useful but will try.

I have taken the valve core out and still no joy. Will be taking a trip to the shop first thing for a bottle of their cheapest Happy Shopper fizzy.

Have been pressing down on the valve and using a high volume track pump which worked on my last tyres. Nearly had these done but not quite. Will try the rope trick later when ive got the enthusiasm, thanks for all the replies.

Just got one to replace my ageing mk3 MaxxD. Only used once so far so early days, whilst the Toro is definitely brighter than the MaxxD, in hindsight I may have rather spent the extra on the newer MaxxD. The Toro is still an excellent light though and plenty powerful enough.

Thanks for the offer but can’t do weekdays unfortunately. Have ridden with the Rockin Bikes guys a few times and plan on getting out with them more.

You’re welcome to join me, usually ride a couple of evenings a week and maybe one morning on a weekend.

Yes, had a black Sportwagon with red leather and it was stunning.
