I just did my YT Capra with heli tape – much cheaper than the pre cut kit. It did some faffing around to make templates and cut etc etc. Prob about 4/5 hours. I did pretty detailed job though. Looks ok, if I do say so. Depends on how much time you want to assign to the task vs money. Either way its def worth doing!

Park tool one does look pretty solid. Question though – is it stable when clamping on top tube on full suss bike and the centre of gravity will be slightly out I guess. I have a reverb and I’m not to keen to hang the bike via the seat tube.

    Cheers

Quick update for future searches on this topic. Ended up getting a YT Capra!Frame six is L – I def would not want to have got a M as indicated on their sizing guide.

Thanks for the info guys…..been comparing the geo info between the two frame sets – the M race is different to standard L – shorter standover height, however longer reach, longer top tube but shorter stack. So confusing. Why dont they do the same spec in race or standard frame – that would solve my problem!

I was on the phone with the UK CS guys and they recommended M for me. Just dont want to waste 2 weeks and other £45 in postage in swapping it over if the size is wrong. I guess thats the risk you take with “mail order”

Cheers guys for the info. Sounds like riding the bike with a blown SS is perfectly ok and the modefixer also works a treat. Being a mechanical piece of gear would it not just be a case of fixing seals, valves etc to get it working again. They cant be that complex??

Now to decide on what size I need…..easier said than done!

Hi – there are quite a few shipping companies that will ship anything to NZ, down to only a bike. If you are over here on holiday then they will even come and collect it from you (if you can arrange a suitable time, place etc). Not sure on the cost, my guess would be around £150-200, but thats just a guess. Just do a google on shipping from UK to NZ. I was looking a few months ago as I am looking at moving back home to NZ from the UK.

    Cheers

Second for the rotor. I currently have the same issue. Taken pads off twice – sanded them, cleaned them, heated them and also done the same to the rotor. After 5 mins of hard riding they are howling again and stopping power is rubbish. This has only recently started. I checked the rotor and I can feel noticeable wear on it. I reckon it must be the rotor. I have a spare one, so going to give it a try.

I may have mis understood what bike you currently have – but if you have a I have a Stumpy FSR evo and the frame is cracked – send it back and get a replacement. Spez have a lifetime warranty on the frame.

interested in this topic…haven’t been to Afan for quite a few years (4 years) since my last disappointing trip there. used to love skyline but most of it was destroyed by the forestry work and they put in place some temp rubbish fire road route which was just crap. Sounds like it is much improved since then and might be worth a revisit. Can anyone who used to ride there years ago give some comparison – now vs say 5 years ago?

Well…..managed to get brake working. I tried Phil’s advice and it worked. Basically pumped fluid back and forward, squeezed the lever off and on then bled the caliper and lever and it looks to be good now. A ride tomorrow will tell! What a drama for something so simple!

The next hill on, Winterfold, has been a little ruined by logging, so a lot of good stuff has been flattened.

A little is an understatement….its pretty much completely ruined. I counted 6 trails destroyed/blocked off last weekend. Such a shame!
