I used to live in Finchley and would ride down to Victoria and get the train to Dorking for some North Downs riding, probably your best bet.

    Yep!

I love getting a dust sock line in summer rather than a mud sock line! Looking forward to the dry trails this weekend :-)

Once I finish bleeding the lever the lever feels solid with the lever syringe still attached, but when I remove the lever bleed syringe and replace the T10 bolt the lever feels soft. Some fluid does leak out when doing this, is this the cause or is there something I am missing?

Mine do exactly the same thing. Solid as a rock with syringe attached, remove it, loose fluid and lever feels a lot softer. It feels much better now I stopped the air sucking in. I think the softer feel must be related to the fluid that is lost when removing the syringe?

(apparently due to a big shortage of parts

This excuse always make me laugh…..they are the second? biggest shock maker in the world and they have a shortage of parts…..really -I’m sure they have mountains of parts, they are just lazy.

Nope.Commuter guards stay on all year. Get caught every summer and I hate the dirty black stripe down my ar*e and bag from the road!

9 weeks is just crazy. I would say its more a Sram/Rockshox issue rather than a YT issue. If it was me I would ask YT for the Sram ticket number and call Sram myself (prob in Germany) and chase it. You shouldn’t have to do that though but you know the saying….if you want something done right, do it yourself!  Thats part of the reason I almost don’t bother with Warranty stuff (for smaller things) as it normally takes so long.

cheers for the link. Why Sram cannot provide that information I do not know! Medium cage it is.

I try not to think about it! For me its either go out and ride and have a blast or stay at home and be bored. Rather spend money on fun things and/or fixing toys than sit at home going mad!

Not sure if your issues is grime or just needs some TLC but there’s a well documented issue with Guides having issues when in the heat / direct sunlight, it’s in the lever apparently not allowing the oil to return and sticking the pistons…….  I sent some brand new Guide RS’s back this week and the shop said, “Not another set!, don’t worry we’re returning them all, have your money back”… Lots of activity on this issue on here and other forums.

Was thinking along these lines as well. Although I’m not sure if its hot enough yet for this happen?

I have just been through this process with my Guide RS’s. If you didn’t now about the lever plunger issue you would prob assume its the caliper sticking, but in actual fact its the plunger sticking inside the lever body. You can either take the plunger out and sand the ends down (just don’t try and take the seals off – I tried and ripped one of them so had to buy a rebuild kit) or by a new kit. You can use the Gen 2 plunger for the older guides, which I have done. The plunger has been redesigned and the plastic looks/feels different. My front brake feels 100% better now and my rear brake that was the “good” feeling brake, now feels like crap compared to the front. I have just received a new plunger from Taiwan (rather than buying a whole new kit) to do the back. Its a pretty simple process – explained very well in Sram Guide Manual.

In case anyone searches for the part code numbers in the future. I can confirm that the Gen 2 lever plunger (11.5018.005.009) is a direct replacement for the Gen 1 version The newer plunger is quite different and looks to be made of different plastic. Lever feels a million times different now, ie it actually returns…and quickly :-)

So I shouldn’t give up hope just yet then. I was a bit dubious about using them, maybe I should have tried with a less vital part first!

    Cheers

The uplift price I can take. I only get there once a year if I’m lucky and its fun. But the new PAYG price is just bluntly a rip off. £30 for a half day…please! The problem is that you cant just think a week in advance, oh, lets go to BPW on the weekend and do the uplift as it gets booked out 3 months in advance. We are going in June and we booked almost 4 weeks ago and even then there were only 6 spots left on the saturday. The previous two times we have gone we have used PAYG and it was fine – we would have gone day pass if we could have got the dam things!  Time for a chair lift or even some type of rope tow could work I’m sure. I guess its a case of “we can charge want we want and people still come”

Sounds like they’re sucking down or the transfer port is blocked

I didn’t realise this was related to the transfer port. Did a google on this. Fixed the issue in 5 mins. Pump up hard. cycle it a few times. Prob sorted! Thanks for mentioning the port :-)

    Cheers

Depends if you are on your own or with someone. Two of us going to Les Arc region in July. We are figuring about £500 each for the week (on the cheap). We are driving and camping in Bourg.  As mentioned above, its the extra bits that add up – tyres etc. I have already started accumulating the extra bits now as they come up in sales.  Just before my mate became available I was about to book a guided week that would have cost me around £11-1200 including flights etc.

I guess it all depends on how luxury you want to go. I’m happy to eat beans all week to get awesome riding!

for years I didn’t see the need for one and rode quite happily on all trails without….until I got a new bike that had one, now I wonder how the hell I used to ride! They are brilliant :-)

Agree!! Totally sick of the mud now!! The constant rain for the last 3 weeks has made it even worse….bogs and puddles everywhere. I remember last year riding at the same time and thinking that it was time to start using my “good bike” as it was so dry! No chance of that this year. Its a mess.

I have gone with motor bike repair patches and used this glue (in a smaller tube) (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rema-Tip-Top-Special-Cement-SC-BL-cold-vulcanizing-repairs-Tire-Repair-5159365-/322241661990)  . So far so good – no issues. I have been tempted to use the mushrooms as well but not got around to it yet.

FWIW I have a load of GPX files of the PDS area if anyone needs

Speaking of GPX files. Does anyone have any GPX files for the “good” off piste riding at Les Arcs and St Foy?

Did you turn the bike up side down

Yeah, it did have it upside down.

I tried pumping like mad but did naff all. Taken it off a put on an old juicy 3 until I can get it working. Brakes are so touchy!

Its hard to get out in the morning but once out its great! Although the mud is really starting to get bad now – even at the usually drier winter spots. Trying to get out even second weekend….better than being bored at home. Winter bike is taking a hammering but that’s what I bought it for! Bring on summer

had the same experience in Germany  few years back. Was a quiet Sunday morning, bike fully loaded with touring gear, bike path was terrible so I went on the road. At the lights  a local pulled up and went mental – in german of course. I just smiled back and said good morning and pulled the foreigner card ;-)

I had the same issue with my DT swiss on my Capra. Turns out, from what I can tell, it was the preload on the wheel bearings being to loose. I adjusted it and it hasn’t happened again (about 20 rides or so). Might just be luck though!

seems to fit ok. The old x9 assembly had more of a circlip on it so I used the spring washer and spring clip thing (great description there)from the x1 and put it back together. Fits good, thread is the same. Hex is so much better than the rubbish fragile torx!

    bgascoyne

it came out eventually. needed a good few hits. seriously tight fit. Think I will put an old x9 bolt in which is hex rather than torx. What a ball ache that was!

    bgascoyne

ok, so i finally found the end of the spring clip. you need superman vision to find that. All clip are out but the bolt will still not come out. Do it just need to bash it out?

bit of a catch 22 really. I have bought two bikes off pinkbike. The first one not long after I registered as I was looking for a bike to buy. Both times went to the sellers house. Cash on purchase is pretty standard for something you are going to look at, in my opinion anyway. Meeting at a neutral place, to me, sounds sketchy as I instantly assume that the goods are nicked. However I do see the point about not wanting “potential buyers” to know where you live. Unfortunately its a trust game…if it feels dodge it probably is!

Last time I went (few years ago now) I wanted to buy a helmet and a few other bits but no one was selling anything….just displaying items. Seemed a bit odd to me. Haven’t been since. Maybe I went with the wrong expectations..? I don’t see the point of not letting people buy stuff!
