Thanks for the replies. Sounds like it will be fine. I was thinking about just getting a new disc. The adapter is only £12 and my current disc is still pretty good.

Are the Shimano and DT Swiss CL patterns the same? I have never had a CL hub so know nothing about the interchangeability (if that’s a word) of CL disc’s. I guess they all fit each other the same as 6 bolt all fit each other?

    Cheers

But of course if you put your 2nd and 3rd brand new chain onto a ring that’s already been worn by the first stretched knackered chain then it won’t fit too well

I’m on my third chain on my current front chain ring and rear cassette and no issues to date. I change the chain when I get to 0.5 wear. However I have noticed that they are getting to 0.5 faster each time. Next time it might be a new drive train or probably just wear it down to its all completely dead! Certainly cheaper to buy new chains more often that a new rear cassette.

Is the lever stuck closed or open? If open (ie at full reach) I doubt its the expanding piston issue – generally this is due to heat anyway (I had this issue with mine).

I would bleed it first and if that doesn’t solve it then I would be pulling it apart – its pretty basic to do – instructions all on the Sram web site.

Stupid question —but what exactly is “3 chains in rotation” – does mean that you have three chains that you swap around on the same drive train periodically?

What is everyone doing to get their posts stuck…or maybe not doing. I have never had an issue in 20 years. Even with my newer bikes with droppers…..I don’t touch them for about 8 months and they just come straight out. I do use carbon grip (even in my ali frame) – maybe that’s the secret??

4 years is ridiculously short and a lot shorter than any other vehicle I’ve ever owned

Four years in stupidly low – since when did this become common practice? My Ford Focus is every 8-10 years or 60,000 miles or so. Four years is just scare tactics in my view. Each to their own though.

watching with interest as I am also thinking about some new hunt trail wheels. I only wish you didn’t have to buy a wheel set. My front wheel is just fine.

I just used a normal socket and had no problems at all. Just take some care and all will be fine.

Bit of a shame. I don’t think the cost was that excessive, but it wasn’t cheap either. I would say that the probability of spending a good chunk of the days in the rain and mud put many people off. I don’t think I have ever had more than three days in a row without rain in Wales over 12 years of visiting there. For the money you could go to the Alps and almost be assured of nice sunny weather in July and on top of that you get to ride in the Alps!

Might take a punt in this thread…..I’m looking for an Entry to the Southern Enduro round over the second May Bank Holiday in Exmoor. Anyone have one that can no longer attend??

To be expected I guess. I was wondering when they would be shut down permanently. There are enough other trails to not really cry over these two. However, if they all (Hurtwood) get shut down then I really would cry! I feel its going to be an ongoing battle with trail pixies to prevent new stuff popping up. I guess its only natural to want to improve build new trails and some people probably have no idea about down side of doing so.

Swindon is where it’s all at these days

The most boring place ever…ok for Cross Country I guess but its so flat!

Dam, that wheel is knackered! Its interesting what you find when you look. Cant count the number of times I have spotted issues with my bikes when cleaning them.

Re the 4500km…that isn’t that much. I have a set of wheels that have done 7500km of heavy road touring and they are still perfect. However they were custom made for the job, so not all that comparable I guess.

Surprised about the 12mth warranty – that seems pretty shite TBH. Was it an ex-display model?

Thanks for the replies. Good that it’s still free. Good point about being full by 9am. Will have to maybe rethink my arrival. Is there a gate across the entrance or is it open 24/7?

You could try MPI Brokers. I normally use them for Skiing, however last year I used them for a bike trip to the Alps and they were a lot cheaper than most other places. They have cycle specific insurance. I called to make sure it covered lift accessed riding and they said it did. Would probably be worth getting that in writing via email though (now looking back on it)

Interesting… – was just going to comment that I have never had a problem with mine and now after looking at my caliper I realised I’m missing the the silver spacers altogether on the front brakes. Don’t think they came with them….now I’m perplexed!

That caught me out as well. When I checked the entry list on Thursday he was on it. Shafted me on my results. I’m just in the top 10% by a whisker.

Prior to getting a stand – when I wanted a stand equivalent I used to strap/hook my bike rack to the fence and put my bike on it. It worked pretty well.

Having just done the same myself, I was in two minds what to do as well. I ended up doing it myself. The main issue is sorting out the tools you need. I made my own IFP level tool, oil level tool and shaft clamp- all for about £2.50 and with stuff I already had lying around. Depending on how fussy you want to be with torque settings you will need crows feet as well, i think a 10mm and 22mm. I went down to my LBS and they had a Reverb parts container so I bought the bits I needed – O-rings, IFP etc –all for a fiver. I didn’t get all the o-rings though as some will last almost forever. Doing the actual job took about 3.5 hours but I was going slow and cleaning everything perfectly and checking the manual a few times. As always the first time is the hardest but if you are mechanically minded you will be fine. Just watch the Videos online and have the manual handy as it contains better info than the video IMO. I was freaking out about removing the poppit due to reading about horror stories but it was a major anticlimax – just do it slowly with a towel over it and all you will get is a wee “puff”. Rebverb is now working perfectly and solid as a rock – no more bounce!

The rebuild prices online are not bad TBH but if like me, you like to do your own repairs and are interested in pulling stuff apart and fixing things, then give it a crack yourself. At the end I thought….why did I wait so long to do that.

My rubber boot has also spilt but I still have yet to find a place to just buy the boot!

I do. I use the minimal G-Form pads unless I’m racing then I pull out the meaty ones. G-forms have saved my elbows on a number of occasions. They are so light that I cant even tell I’m wearing them. However “cool” it might be to have elbows full of scars, I’m keen to avoid it!

That’s bloody sneaky of them. Was that info there when the tickets went on sale? If you are on your own (there are plenty of people on their own) then 3 nights camping has gone from £15 to £45, that’s just ridiculous especially when there is no where to wash dishes and a few taps in a field. And what if you met a mate there and stay in one tent. Do you need to pay for an extra car now? They clearly have not thought things through. I think this will be my last year at AR.

I clamp my carbon frame by the top tube and never had a problem – as mentioned above you need minimal force unless doing something really heavy duty. It comes down to common sense really – just don’t clamp the sh*t out of it.

I got a PCS10 in Dec for just over £100. Its the first stand I have owned so cant compare to anything else but I love it. I don’t know why I didn’t get one years ago! As mentioned above about the PCS9 – the PCS10 is also solid as a rock and you will never need to buy another stand…ever. I’m sure a PCS9 would be almost as good but not quite as user friendly. Over your lifetime the extra £30ish will be worth shelling out for now IMO

edit…here you go – ex display one for £110 https://www.evanscycles.com/park-pcs10-folding-repair-stand-ex-demo-ex-display-EV361107

I did it last July, was £160 for tolls there and back. £340 for fuel (2 litre petrol turbo hatchback, driving from Surrey) averaging 80mph on the motorway. It took 13 hrs door-to-door, including breaks, via Eurotunnel.

Agree with this. Pretty much what it cost us last July in a 2L Qashqai. We stopped at a F1 on the way down for the night but did the return in one hit.

Depending on what time of day/night you are travelling I wonder if the additional time taken on the “free” roads would be all that much. Google says only 2 hours more, but that’s with no traffic. £160 vs 4hours more? Prob a bit less than £160 as 4 hours more gas, but prob not at 80mph.

You could by the new bladder assembly or the full service kit – which comes with a new bladder and all the new O-rings etc. They looks to be about the same price. Having just finished a pike rebuild today, if I was you, I would go with the full service kit and do everything while you are digging about.

You need a pair of circlip pliers with small tips for one of the circlips.

As I found out today. The circlip holes for the compression cam are tiny! Need to buy some new circlips as mine wont fit. Good thing I’m not in a hurry.

Sounds like its doable then. Its a 2015 pike and its never had a damper service. I have done the lowers plenty and the air shaft side (it was sucking down). There is nothing really wrong with it but i guess prevention is better than cure while on holiday somewhere!

*Assuming* you already have a reverb installed – you could just leave the old hose in place and change the end attachment for the post (for the newer one) or just continue to use the old seat post attachment

dumb question time….on CRC if it shows out of stock does that mean that you can order it and then they will order it and get it to you..eventually. I always assumed it meant “sorry we don’t have it and you cant order it” – which kind of defeats the purpose of even allowing you to see the item in the first place!

If the seller was helpful, could they not just list it as a gift. As far as I know gifts do not attract duty of any sort (I might be wrong however). Xmas is coming up right, so it could look legit!

As mentioned above its probably the seat clamp causing interference…..hopefully

The mechanic seemed to think it was something to do with the cable twisting inside the bike and being unable to puch it back up due to the twisted cables?

If the Mechanic did say this, he is hopeless as Reverbs don’t have cables!

I’d go with OKO agricultural sealant instead

What do you thin it down with. I have bought some of this as my current supply of another brand has run out. Reading around it seems a 50/50 mix with water works?

Managed to get 2x Sat Enduro tickets. I honestly don’t know how all the tickets go in ten seconds. I was refreshing constantly from 6:29 and missed out on first round. It wasn’t 15 mins when they were released either. It was about 17 mins. I sat there refreshing from 6:43 hoping…then I got lucky! :-) All good in the end! Hope the sun shines like this year.
