By “that side” do you mean “…of the pennines?” – Saltaire is nowhere near Elland Road, about 40 minutes drive in fact.

I concur…great shop but not doable in a lunch break

might be pushing it there & back in an hour though

Could be doable – used to work in Morley too so know the area.

Anybody recommend anything similar to the above?

I’ve sent an XL pair back as they were too tight round the thigh and calf. Pity, as they seemed a very well made bit of kit.

    How mahoosive are your legs?!

Also looking at Troy Lee KG/EG any views on these?

    Whats the sizing like?

    Fail

TBH its all i’ll be riding for the foreseeable, summer and winter!

Waiting for those pesky germans to get some capra XLs in.

That looks real nice. How are you finding the size?

Not done any proper miles yet but feels good – As mentioned above I’m 6’2″ and the frame is an 18″. Feels very similar to my old trek size-wise if a little slacker up front. Reverb actually sits lower in the frame than it did on the trek.

    Rear wheel from the trek?

Well spotted that man….. I’d forgotten about the wheel (should be a superstar to match the front but no axle at the mo). So theres actually 2 original items from the Trek.

You need to get a hose reel.

I have a hose ‘hook’ but can’t be arsed to use it 😉

You really need some black bars

I thought the same once I’d built it up but the Renthals are growing on me.

Finished! (bar a few gearing tweaks). Quite pleased with the outcome:

Is the stem from the old Trek!?

    Keep guessing 😕

And those cushions appear to be having a conversation

    😀 Only just noticed that….

Quick Hijack – can you do it the other way round? I have XTR shifters similar to above but would like to put i-spec clamps on – can it be done?

A few more bits on last night…nearly there. Cabling seemed to take forever, had to shorten both brake hoses and reverb hose. Gear cables were surprisingly quick to thread through the frame. Had to ditch my derailleur for a top swing which I had on my old Kona. Still need to put that on and shorten forks/insert star nut then I’m ready for off! Had a pedal round the block last night – bike feels good. I’ve spared you my ‘nans’ conservatory for my patio. Positive comments on my new gravel will be greatly appreciated. So, in true ‘Triggers broom’ style, here’s my Trek Fuel EX7 2009 (one original part still remains – shouldn’t be too hard to spot it):

Reverb and saddle on – not sure where I’ll route the reverb cable – probably have to clip it to rear brake cable with cable ties:

Well spotted…No she died along time ago but those chairs were hers! I have no excuse for the dreadful cushion or net curtains. 😳

Nearly went for a hornet myself … but I don’t think it’ll take a front mech. Very nice frames.

    UPDATE:
Been forced (by knackered shock and own ham-fistedness) to build up the hardtail a bit earlier than planned. Frame appears to be a vert similar size to old Trek but slacker geometry. I’ve been furiously cleaning all my shoddy old kit from the Trek so it doesnt detract from the new frames loveliness.
Heres a couple of pics from the build so far….quite excited at the prospect of getting on it and riding it!!

    a group of *older* riders.

Speak for yourself – as old Twainy once said “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter” 😉
Definitely on for next year then? Finally over the horror of Mudzine?

I’ve got SLX on my full sus and Deore on my hardtail. After ditching Avids on the FS and Hayes on the HT i wont be getting anything other than shimano for a while. For the price they’re unbeatable (IMHO)

the fact the largest frame is 18′ which for us taller riders is likely to come up short

Was a bit concerned about that myself at first, but I’m led to believe an 18″ will be fine (touches wood) – I’m 6’2″.

Anyway, frame ordered and ordered a headset too – Dartmoor do their own IS42/IS52 headset (BLINK i think)

Is that just the lower headset or does it come as a set

I was going to click the ‘BUY’ button on Saturday only to find that the AL1 XL is now ‘unavailable’- and no date for when there’ll be more availavle 🙁
To ad insult to injury MBR dropped on the doorstep shortly after with a glowing review of the XL AL1. GRRRRRR!!

Plenty of excellent reviews around – havent seen a bad one yet. Obvoiusly I cant tell you about issues with buying direct – cos theres none in stock. 👿

Just found a new use for mine 😀

Absoutely love mine (the wifes really!). 09 model in grey as pic above. Excellent storage space, cubby holes etc.
Only downside is we got the lowest horsepower model (95 I think!) so its a bit of a swine to overtake a french lorry when fully laden but not too bad at all when normal load.
    Get one….

Petra cycles checked it out for me. It’s definitely possible to swap the lowers over. I suppose it would be a good opportunity to swap the seals whilst I’ve got it apart?

Beat me to it – more or less what I would have suggested. As you say DBW, cockpit is knackered at the mo – especially the lower end although top end is still fast. And I would rather climb up a bit of Rippy bank and turn right onto fiddle lane rather than climb the bridleway – it too is a bit knackered at the bottom for climbing (not so bad for descent!!)

However you do it, only start the job 10 minutes or so before you are due to go out for a ride.

    Get some work done 🙂

Thats what I thought (after searching here and elsewhere) but mine only gives me the slightest bit (half a mil tops).
