Sometimes riding on your own is better. As you dont have to wait for people who say they will come, but then turn up late with a mechanical or flat tyre.

You know who you are 🙂

Never mind the sticks. What about the dog poo bags that are hung in the trees at head height. Deposited there by ar5eh0le dog walkers.

Gives a new meaning to sh1thead.

    What a top event

I was there with ‘that GT lot’ wearing the grim reaper get up, among the Lady Godiva skinsuit tribe.

Shame the mask fell down on the descent in to the camp site 😯 nearly causing a reaper/tree interface.

    Some piccies http://s848.photobucket.com/albums/ab44/Mattb1527_photo/SSEC%202011/

Fell back to reality with a bump today though 🙁

HONC virgin here 100k in 5.22hrs not inc the 10k there and back from the campsite.
Recognised Graham in the car park anmd seen him again en route.

Coped fine on the rigid, but the last couple of bumpy sections hurt.
Agree that there was a bit too much tarmac. Twas a good tester to see how much training I need for Kielder too. Lots…….

TBH I am a renewed fan of rigid on my 29er. Riding a rigid to work every day with cheeky short cut through the woods helped.

I ride Cannock chase regular, and those braking bumps are not nice.
I now have bikes with front suspension and gears too, so I have a choice.
For local stuff though gears and suspension not required

Sorry mboy, before my time. Hi anyway
As Rocketdog says, the Offchurch disused railway line is ok and it runs all the way to Stretton.
The bridleway from the back of Kenilworth castle to Warwick is ok, but not over taxing.
If you are prepared to travel a little further for local trails, there is some good stuff in Wappenbury woods, near Ryton on Dunsmore and loads in Brandon woods.
Usually what we do is link up the woods around Coventry.
Yes I know Coventry isn’t the most inspiring, but there is some good singletrack hidden in them there woods

Keep an eye on the Godiva trailriders forum. You will have to register, but there are quite a few Leamington/Warwick riders on there.
They meet every Wed evening in Coventry, but have Leam/Wark/Nuneaton rides all the time.
    Nice bunch too

Just out mile munching on the local bridleways in Warwickshire.
Nice and dry, and going well until my last tube gave out after 46 singlespeed miles 🙄

    32/14 Wanga

There is a gear bike too……….

My boss had his bike stolen, so he dragged my into a couple of Halfruads in the area.
One had an original steel Wanga marked up as a alloy frame @£999
With the new range behind it with the top price @£349????

In another store they had the new line up priced from £349-£749 for the same line up of bikes. 🙄

I have a Wanga and a 29er Soukri. Both designed by Joe Murray in steel. Love them both, but not struck on the new range at all. They also may have priced themselves out of the Halfrauds customer base.
The older ones will therefore become more niche 😉

Bugger, just swapped all my running gear from my FS to my HT.

What was I thinking, back to the shed.

For 4 miles just stick a little more pressure in your tyres if its all road.
I commute 10 miles each way daily. I now use a 32/14 ratio rigid singlespeed with normal trail tyres pumped up hard.
This way if I have time I can dive off into the woods. It has also done wonders for my fitness

I have had 3 a GT Peace 18″, a On-one Scandal 18″ and the current Voodoo Soukri at 19″. All have been fine re standover and my 31″ inside leg

Nice. Thought about going down the retro line for my commuter until my mates forks snapped at Llandegla.

My Wanga is as retro as I go now.

10 miles to work, 10 miles back.
Have started upping the distance of late to make it 15m each way with a play in the woods

    Never to see the UK…………………….

    Wrong

    Bernaard

Halfrauds refused to source me one as it was not a complete bike and not part of the new range.
Plus mine is steel and the new line up is aluminium.

I found a couple of places in the US that were prepared to ship it over

Dickie, I still have your old Wanga. How’s the Scandal?

I said to myself that if I could find a 29er that rode similar to the 26er Wanga I would be happy. Looks like I have found it.

I had to get it from the USA as no one in the UK would import it for me.
Total cost around £380 inc import duty.
Took a while to arrive though.

Can take up to 120mm forks, but I am using 80mm as the bike was built for long events that I am doing this year like the HONC and Kielder (gears for that though)and I will put stubby bar ends on for that on the flat bars so that I have the low racer position.

Don’t know about Thursday Mick, depends if we’re doing the Burway?
    May bring the bouncer. 😕

    FS 710mm low riser
    HT SS 710mm low riser
    New 29er 700mm flat
Couldn’t really go any wider as the local trails are quite narrow and there are a couple of bits at Cannock where I have caught the bars where the trail pass through narrow trees.
I have some 690mm ones if you want to try them Craig
